submersible missing near the Titanic

Was it only James Cameron? I read a multitude of comments regarding the suspected outcome almost immediately. Did others have “inside info”? It wouldn’t be a surprise. Although I’m not sure why it was ever released if it was really so top secret.
As I'm not one of the Sub Buds, I can't answer to that.

If the fact the Navy heard something was "Top Secret" (as some are claiming), then neither Cameron nor Sub owners should have been told. If its ok for them to know, then its not Top Secret, and thats not the reason the public wasn't told. Can't have it both ways.

We don't have all the facts. I don't recall Cameron saying he gleaned the info from Naval sources, only the Sub Buds. Could the Sub Buds have their own means of registering undersea sound, independent of the Navy? Could Sub Bud scientists have had sonar in the area? If so, then you CAN have it both ways. But until you know, you can't say you can't until you can.

Speaking of James Cameron, I just watched Avatar for the 1st time. Took me 3 days, but I finished it. Actually liked it, especially compared to my preconceived thoughts going into it.

But again, you come down to WHY wasn't the public informed that SOMEONE heard SOMETHING?

The argument being thrown around was the Navy heard it using "Top Secret" technology and that's why they didn't tell anyone. My point is only that that reasoning doesn't make sense. It came out 5(?) days later, so they weren't concerned about keeping the "secret" then.

If someone else heard (what could be) an implosion, why not tell people? Was it just so people wouldn't give up hope? Possibly. But why not say that? "We've heard a sound that COULD be an implosion, but we're not sure yet."

Yep!

Have you not heard about the process of declassifying top secret information? It can happen quickly, if necessary. The Navy has already said they notified the Coast Guard the same day they heard it. They obviously got clearance to share it with CG. There were not news media on board the coast guard vessel, relaying every new development.

Again, WE were not told that "someone" heard an implosion until 5 days later. That does NOT mean that people who needed to know were not told that.

Apparently, James Cameron and his "sub buds" got that information by 24 hours after the sub disappeared. We will likely never know WHO exactly got that information and HOW he/she got it. It's not really our buisness, is it?

Why are you so stuck on this? They were probably just stringing everyone along until they got the remote submersible down there to confirm what they already knew they would find. Again, they used the search and rescue as a training mission. The resources were already out there so they let them do their thing. It would have been a LOT more outcry if they didn't do anything at all.

This whole debacle could have been avoided had the support ship simply had a remote submersible that could have dove down looking for the Titan when they lost communication initially. They didn't have this onboard. It had to come from the mainland. And that takes time.

Again, I refer you to the Sub Buds. You're not privy to Sub Bud info.

It's a conversation. People post their points, I post my counter points, they post their counter-counter points, etc.

I don't consider myself a conspiracy theorist, but I also don't believe everything the government says as gospel. The "we were using secret technology when we heard it, but we can tell you five days later" doesn't make logical sense to me. If it does for you, great!

If they would have said "we've known about it for five days, but didn't want people to give up hope", I wouldn't have given it a second thought.

We still bascially know NOTHING about this "Top Secret" program that is the source of the information about the implosion sound. Nothing at all. We now know that there IS a Top Secret program running in that area of the ocean. We have no details. They didn't expose anything of substance by telling us they heard this noise. They simply admitted that they did. We don't know how they heard it, or where they were located when they heard it, or how they interpreted the noise to figure out what it was.

They could have heard this noise with underwater microphones near the area or VERY FAR AWAY from the area. We have no idea. Those types of details are still under wraps.

Whenever you hear either the news or the government or the military make a statement, you have to qualify it with "as far as you know." No one should take what the military says as gospel. There is always more to the story.

Which is what I said who knows how many pages ago. Glad you agree. :thumbsup2

I don't think body recovery is likely. Think Twin Towers, only 13,000 feet down, with any recovery being done by remote robots. I'm pretty impressed with the mechanical parts they HAVE managed to bring up. If there are remains within those, the families may be able to have burials.

The US Coast Guard is now saying they have recovered human remains, which they are carefully preserving, along with BIG debris of wreckage. ABC news has videos of large pieces of wreckage that is being brought up.

A section of the end cap with the viewing window was brought up, very carefully tarped over so people couldn't see underneath. Since the men may have been huddled there looking out the window, that could be where the human remains are and why that piece was covered over. :(

Weren't all the pieces covered to help preserve them? I knew a cop whose car was wrecked on duty. Not his fault and he was fine but the wreckage was covered on a flat-bed truck, probably to keep the lookie loos from speculating about what happened.

Regarding who knew what & when,
the mother/wife of 2 of the passengers said very clearly that she & others who
we're waiting with the world found out when we all did.
According to her & others involved
they found out Thursday along with us.
Despicable!

While trying to avoid politics I will say
that our family noticed that news of the poor, shiny thing in the news seemed to be used
as a big, shiny thing to distract the public
from other news that week.
I'll refrain from winking.

I was surprised by how big some of the pieces of the wreckage were. I feel for the families for sure, but the more interviews I see of the CEO, the more he reminds me of an Elizabeth Holmes type. Not just confident....cocky, and that same "fake it til you make it" feel.
