submersible missing near the Titanic

Possible I guess, but they may have issues there if what the CEO told David Pogue of CBS Sunday Morning last year is true. He told him that as of last summer the company was not yet profitable.
It won’t matter if that company was in the red or the black. That’ll have nothing to do with it. The insurance companies will be subrogating this for years and years to come w/ the insurance of any entity related to the situation. It’ll just be insurance company versus insurance company and it will be doubly difficult if any of the entities or companies involved have the same insurance company, which may be possible given what is possibly the specialty/niche type of insurance needed.

My only comments on this whole thing right now is I’m so sick and tired of all the online hate towards billionaires. Yes, I guess they could’ve spent the money for this trip and feeding the poor etc. but some of these people are making it out like billionaires of the most evil people on earth. And make no contribution to society. Sure there’s some bad apples out there like with everything but when I think of the ALDI family, for example, one the world’s richest families. They make groceries affordable and as an employer they’re very darn good have always been. And actually pay very well.
I agree. I saw this too. How do we know these folks didn't give millions to charity? It isn't an either/or scenario. They can spend money on themselves AND others. Some people seem to not like seeing others succeed.

I sure hope the people showing that hate never go on vacation or buy fancy purses or shoes or anything else because there is someone out there who has less than them that the money should be spent on instead.

The Navy information on the sound of the explosion would be classified. It would take a while and require a good reason to de-classify and release that information to the public.

Not only was the Navy aware of the implosion, I am sure that any COUNTRY with assets in the Ocean patrolling the water's would have detected it. WHY let anybody know you know when it's likely the detection capabilities could be in the realm of being Top Secret.

Believe it or not, there was a time when most business owners/CEO's prided themselves not only on their success, but the "success" of the people working for them -this is rare today. Combine that, with the grossly widening gap between Executive salaries and those of the average worker ....and you have the resentment you see today. Not many people actually resent success, they detest gluttony. A billionaire donating a million to charity is like a person with $100,000 donating $100 ...sorry for not being impressed

The sub story has come to a sad if not unexpected conclusion. The aunt of the 19year old is saying publicly that he didn't want to go, also very sad.

Sinclair broadcasting bought many small local stations, ours included and I refuse to watch them. They have an obvious bias and used to shove Bottom Line with Boris at us. Boris Epshteyn is putrid and that is all I needed to know about their bias. I'm sorry to have participated in the subject derailmant.
(Since we're still on 2 tracks here) Sinclair owns the ABC affiliate in Washington, DC area and I won't watch their news. They have the Jeopardy syndication and that is all I watch on them.

Yes, I saw that interview. Seems like the Dad did what we now refer to in our family as........"he's pulling the Father's Day Card"....meaning the Dad gets to engage with his child/children in the activity of his choosing because.....Father's Day. Same thing happened this year in my husband's family. And while in our case it was to get into a religious conversation that should have happened 30 years ago......and not a trip to the bottom of the ocean to see the Titanic....both endeavors ended with suboptimal results.

I saw the Oceangate press release about the "Five explorers who died doing exactly what they loved" kind of deal and thought...."the 19 year old?.....yeah, I don't think so."

Thank you for proving my point. Nobody asked you to be impressed on a number you made up.

If it wasn't for the billionaires onboard this wouldn't even make the news. Tragedies happen every day. I'm amazed people get sucked into all the drama.
I disagree. You have a sub lost near the most famous sunken ship, and as you get a scope of how dire the situation is then it becomes compelling to see how anyone, in THAT janky sub, might possibly be rescued at such vast depths. Those are tremendous odds, coupled with a race against time with international efforts trying to save these people. If these were middle-income technicians and tourists, it's still interesting to me.

You have to wonder if it was a youth soccer team stuck in a cave if the media would have covered it? I mean, assuming they aren't billionaires.

Or a child stuck in a well.

I'm not exactly sure how I proved your point, but okay. I still believe a billionaire donating millions is no better that a middle-class person donating hundreds. To me, donation status doesn't make someone a wonderful person.

The fact that these guys are billionaires has nothing to do with how much it was reported or how if became a top story. If these were university researchers making a normal income, it would still have been a top story. We are all fascinated with exploration or anything that has a certain risk factor. It’s like a plane crash. thousands die a day globally in car crashes but it’s not sensational. News on a plane goes down it’s the top story for a day or two. The fact is this sub was a rarity their only a handful in the world that go to such depths. It’s the rarity of this that made it a top story not who is sitting inside of it.

No I think it'd still make the news.

The situation they were in was one that brings up some of people's worsts nightmares along with a near impossible search effort that would be required. If they were regular tourists it would still make the news.

As far as tragedies some make the news others don't. I've been hearing about the couple who died of what is assumed carbon monoxide in Mexico (not the first time this has happened), then the astonishing assault (both physical and attempted sexual) and death of one of them of the tourists at Neuschwanstein castle.

I'm sorry you equate stuff to being sucked into the drama but I'm also so confused on why that means you choose to post on threads about said drama. Isn't that being sucked into the drama while being amazed that others are?
