submersible missing near the Titanic

No you don't. You blamed the wife for not having "the sense to put the kibosh on the trip" as though she can tell grown people what to do. And you also said "she's rich so there's that" :confused3 as though that has anything to do with it and her mourning her loss.

Would I have made this trip? Not for a million dollars and yes, I think it was ill conceived and a terrible idea. Does anyone deserve to die this way? No. I've typed and deleted and retyped and I just have no words because I don't want to get points. Just wow.
It’s possible to have a lot of feelings about a situation over the course of an event like this. i began thinking…. This is a crazy wealthy endeavor. But as time goes on, of course you feel for these poor souls. It’s harrowing to think about. And events like this always get massive news coverage, but in Greece an entire frigate of hundreds of migrants capsized… and it’s barely in the news. Hundreds drowned….also harrowing to imagine. So lots of souls lost this week at sea. Still hoping for a miracle for those on the Titan..

I think it says a lot about our society that we care more about 5 rich guys in a homemade submarine than about the hundreds of migrants that drowned. I guess that second story isn't as sexy for the media because there's no suspense.

If the Titan imploded, wouldn't there have been floating debris by now?

As for getting snagged on something, I did see an interview for another trip which the guy said their craft got wedged between a two parts of the Titanic. Luckily they were able to get themselves out.

Another guy showed a trip where the ocean current pushed their craft against the Titanic's propeller. You could see in the video some stuff flying off the propeller. Luckily they didn't have any real damage.

Our local news said the search area is double the size of Connecticut. The Titan is the size of a van and is possibly moving with the currents.
One can only image how smal any debris field would be. I

A Canadian sonar plane has picked up “banging noises” at 30 minute intervals….indicating that it may be the occupants of the submarine signaling. Vessels and submersibles are being moved to that area. It would make sense to signal in intervals like that….signaling constantly would drive them crazy and would cause over exertion and rapidly use up the remaining air supply.

when i heard of this i thought of the woman who was rescued from underneath the san francisco marina district's fallen buildings in the 1989 loma prietta earthquake. she was trapped, could'nt move but one arm so she grabbed what she could reach and started tapping out on a broken pipe over and over, the same few bars of a song over and over and over-she figured that just making pounding sound could be dismissed as earthquake damage or rescue vehilcles but a rythmic sound might be noticed..............and it was:love:

at this writing there is an estimated 3 1/2 hours of oxygen left..........i am not hopeful but given the recent rescue of those 3 children and an infant suriving a plane crash and surviving for 40 days alone in the rainforest............i believe miracles can happen.

absent a miracle i hope their time ended as quickly and painlessly as possible, and that their families and friends find, in time, peace.

Absolutely. It is amazing how the media truly controls how we think and what we focus on.

Tragedies happen everyday and I do believe “most” people feel for those suffering. Unfortunately, our media has absolutely no integrity, is totally biased and has an agenda that they are ramming down people’s throats every day. It is truly despicable.

We all need to start demanding better…from our government, our leaders and certainly the media which definitely shapes people’s minds.

It is certainly a sad state of affairs today.

Well, to be fair, I read a story on CNN lamenting exactly that, so the media IS covering it and making that observation.

I meant the "as least she's rich" comment ironically--clearly, you didn't get that, which is okay. Maybe I spend too much time on the Duggarsnark subreddit, where "At least I have a husband" is a meme about Anna Duggar sticking with her pervert husband. What I really was trying to convey was, last week, she thought she had the world by the tail. This week, she'd trade every dime to get her husband and child back.

Also, I wouldn't let my husband take my son on such a trip. Even an adult son. You know darn well the 19yo didn't earn himself the money for this trip. I would strongly, strongly object to my husband going, as well, but likely couldn't stop him.

I’m seeing the migrant story. It’s written in a non bias way with no agenda.
Maybe this is more of a “you” perspective than a media one.

Not feeling any “agenda being rammed down my throat “.
But I am completely tired of people using that worn out, stupid phrase. Maybe try a different news source if yours has you so upset,

Agreed on all accounts. Well said.

I'm seeing the migrant story too, but it's not leading the news....this submersible thing is. That's the saddest part to me. However, migrants drowning at sea in the Mediterranean is common...so the world has tuned it out. Still, when a frigate with over 700 people goes down, it's just so so sad. The bigger story there is that Greece has been accused of ignoring the dangerous frigate and last week I think they were caught on video returning migrants from their shore....back to sea, near the sea border with Turkey....so that the Turks would be forced to pick them up.

I saw a story that a mega yacht owned by a Mexican Billionaire aided in that disaster and saved about 100 migrants. That visual certainly encapsulates the wealth gap in our world....the poorest most desperate people in the world....rescued by a billionaire's yacht. Crazy world.

Is the 16 dead in Manitoba leading the news? It is here as it’s local.

The sub is off the Canadian coastline and the navy is involved in rescue. Plus it’s a unique story. Makes sense it’s making the news here.

I did see a story about that in the NYT....bus heading to a casino I think. I wouldn't say it led the news here though. And agree, the submersible heading to see the Titanic....with billionaires on board, has a lot of "hooks" in it. It's a classic "race against the clock" deal...and a lot of us have at least a little interest around the Titanic story, so I get it.

Maybe you need to find different news sources if that's what you get from them. The media I follow is nothing like that

Here it's neither stories, biggest thing is the weather. We have some very hot weather with a lot of rain.

And weather is always a popular topic in my country.

I just saw a story about a heat wave in the southern USA so we do also get stories about weather in other countries. Not sure how those are biased. Or how a story about a sub rescue is bias. Guess everyone has their own outlook and viewpoint.

I posted about it here. And yes I would hope it made the USA papers.

The news sites highlight the stories that are getting the most clicks. If what the media covers is anyone's fault, it's ours.

I'm seeing that too....but down a few stories from the submersible. We have a "heat dome" over Texas and Mexico....and it's just brutally hot in the south in general. The other big weather story I'm seeing is that ocean temps are going to hit all time records this year....and next, due to climate change and El Niño. Also that we already have a pretty active hurricane season shaping up. It seems like this year we're going to have some big powerful storms.
