I went to a place to grab some lunch and ordered a soup and salad to take back to the office. I eat my salad. Too small but ok. I open my soup and they only gave me 1/2 a container. WTH? When I order a container of soup. I expect the container to be full. IF I wanted to be hungry after lunch I would have just not eaten anything rather than paying 9.00 for essentially nothing.

$9 for a small salad and HALF a container of soup?? I'd be trotting my butt back over there.. That would be unacceptable to me..

And before anyone says it, no - I don't think I should have to take the lid off the soup to see how much is in there before I leave the establishment - no more than I would "check" a cup of coffee when the norm is to fill the cup - unless otherwise instructed..

Wow. That stinks. At minimum, I'd be making a call to the manager to let them know what happened!

For the same reason, I've stopped buying hot lattes from Dunkin Donuts. About $3 for a medium and it's never even half full.

Did the Soup chef happen to look like this?

Sorry, I couldn't resist! :rotfl:

:flower3:I'm sure that would be frustrating!

Since I was already back at work I figured if I called they'd tell me to bring it back. No way should I have to go all the way back there.

They did give me free kettle chips I didn't ask for. I don't really like kettle chips. LOL

OOoh, I'd be fuming. I <3 soup and getting ripped off like that would really tick me off!!

Call and talk to a manager. For $9.00 you deserve more than a salad and a half soup.

For $9 you would be better off bringing your own soup and salad!!!

I hate when stuff like this happens. I know we went somewhere and asked for a milkshake it was barely full. They said that's how they always make them when they use the bigger cups. So I asked how they make the smaller ones and she said "oh we fill those up". So basically I paid for a large milkshake and only got the small portion!

Really? that's ridiculous. I think mine was simply someone being careless. To have a policy like the milkshake one is stupid.

And yes, I should have brought my own but I took my van in this morning and figured it would be done by lunchtime and I'd bring something back with me. It's almost 4pm and the repair guy still hasn't called.....

Many places that sell soup or chili use a larger container so if the customer wants to add crackers or cheese or something to the soup they have room to do it without causing the soup to spill.

I used to be a manager at Wendy's and that is standard practice. A small chili is an 8 ounce serving in a 12 ounce cup and a 12 ounce serving is in a 16 ounce cup. It always looked like we were cheating the customer but we always used a ladle that held exactly 8 ounces or 12 ounces.

Even at our school here when we have soup, we are required to serve 8 ounces exactly and the soup goes into a 12 ounce cup. This allows room for those who add crackers to the soup AND it allows room so if you are carrying it you are less likely to spill hot soup on your hand. Also the design of some cups might be taller and it also gives the appearance of getting less soup when you are actually getting exactly what you are supposed to.

Once a few years ago we even ran out of the 12 ounce cups and had to use 16 ounce cups so yes it did look like they were not getting much soup but they were still getting the 8 ounce they were supposed to.

If they filled the soup up to the rim when you went to take the lid off there is a greater risk of it spilling and burning and then if that happened then would be a thread on here about "Why did they fill up my soup so high?? When I opened it it spilled on me and burned my hand...now I am going to sue!!":lmao:

We've got a new baby in the house, so I've pretty much stopped at Starbucks every morning on my way to work to get my caffiene jolt. As I pulled out into traffic with my Grande caffe mocha this morning, I started to take a sip. The cup was only half full. I was running late (new baby), so didn't consider going back.

I had completely forgotten about that until reading this thread.

Back when I used to go to Starbucks, I would ask them for NO FOAM because I noticed that they would fill the cup up only HALF with Chai, and HALF with foam. Sorry, but I'm not paying almost $5 for FOAM!!!! :headache:

Thanks for explaining that. When I first opened this thread I thought of Wendy's! I really like their chili but was always a bit upset that they never fill the cup up. I'm not one to complain about things like that, but it did make me order it less often because I felt like I wasn't getting my full money's worth. But what you said does make sense! So next time I order it I'll remember this thread, and I won't be upset about it. :)

If the customer had no intentions of putting crackers or anything in their soup, could they "request" that it be filled almost to the top of the container? And would they be charged more for that?

I've noticed something similar at the drive through at McDonalds that now have the automated soda fillers. There is quite a bit of "air" at the top of the cup now that a human isn't filling it! I'm such a cheapskate I go in and buy it at the counter so I can fill my own to the tippytop at the self serve station!
