Hi everyone. I'm reading through all the Disneyland planning books that I borrowed from the library. The guide book says to go on this ride early on in the day but it also says you will get wet. What do people usually do? Bring a change of clothes? Does getting wet mean everything will be wet (clothes, socks, shoes, etc.)? Will wearing ponchos help? We're not staying close by so heading back to the hotel is not an option. Should we go on this ride before we go home? Wondering how everyone handles this situation. Also, we're planning to get the Hopper passes but is there enough time to hop between the two parks? or should we just stick with one park and see everything and go to the next park the next day. What are your comments on this. The one park a day tickets are cheaper too. Thanks.

These days I only go on the ride if I have a poncho. If you are in the 'right' spot you will get soaked. They do have lockers near the attraction that guests can use while on the ride.

The poncho won't keep you completely dry, but it's a huge help. :)

We typically go when it is warm out and we are wearing shorts and tees. So we just get wet and dry off naturally.

If it was a cold day I would not ride GRR - unless I had a change of clothes or was staying at the GCH so I could get back to the room easily.

As noted, there are seats that get totally wet (that's the one I'm in :wave2:)

There are other seats that just get a bit of water (that's DHs seat)

You can bring a change of clothes, if you wish, and change out, if necessary. If you're there during a warm weather period, I'd go early and just let the tempratures dry my clothes.

Don't wear cotton clothes and you'll probably feel better. It won't feel as cold if you get wet and it will dry much faster. I remember hiking in a shallow river wearing swim trunks and a polyester T-shirt. I was soaked up to my armpits. I just walked around and was reasonably dry in an hour. However it was a warm day in Utah, which may make a difference.

We planned to go one day. Brought flip flops and ponchos. Went 6 times in a row. Never got soaked , but it was also lightly raining. After that is started to pour, we got soaked and went back to the hotel to change/warm up.

Depends on the weather. GRR is my DS favorite ride. During the summer we will ride it no less than 6 times (early am) and consecutive just to get it out of the way. If it's hot enough where you can dry off we just walk it off. We have also ridden early November and early December and we bring clothes to change into after getting DS's GRR fix. There are "drains" at the bottom of the raft so when you go down the hills water can shoot up from the drain and get you wet. So sometimes you get a little wet (shirt is a little damp) to soaking wet and wringing out your clothes from head to toe. It seems sometimes weather does effect how wet you get. When we've ridden in the fall/winter months you don't get as wet as the hotter months BUT YMMV.

Regarding park hopping there are many threads about this but it is extremely easy to park hop. No transportation needed. We usually go to DL in the am, lunch, go to DCA in the afternoon, dinner. I'd say a 2 minute walk over.

SeaWorld in San Diego has a similar ride. At the exit they have walk-in dryers at $5 a pop. Several people can share a drying cycle.

It's from a company called Haystack Dryers. This is their most popular model, but they also have ones for swimming pool/spa bathrooms.

That's so funny, that they actually have dryers like that. I told my niece in 2010 after riding Kali River Rapids at WDW that they needed some dryers. Made no sense that at certain bathrooms in AK (and other parks) that they have the hand dryers in the bathroom but at the bathroom near the ride they have paper towels.

WDW has the sprayers near TT and in other parks so why can't they get dryers to dry you after a wet ride.

It's one of our favorite rides. We assume we will get soaked (which is half the fun). Living in Wisconsin, it is never to cold for us to go on it. But if it is below 70, we will go at the end of our day - then we can usually walk on and go several times in a row!

There's 2 possibilities when riding GRR. There is a chance that you will walk off the ride barely wet (such as DS9, GRUMBLE!!!). Or there's Murphy's Law that dictates if I ride it, on the first big drop that I will get drenched (totally soaked from head to toe), much to the merriment of the family:rotfl::rotfl:. So if I were you, take a poncho, put feet over the drain holes in the raft to prevent a sudden geyser in the raft, and hope for the best.:thumbsup2 Also bring a garbage bag to put your backpacks or whatever you are carrying with you so that it doesn't get wet. I've gotten downright paranoid about this ride, as every time I've ridden it I've gotten soaked down good, while the rest of the family barely got wet. So you've been warned.

I've never seen anything like that before!!! What a GREAT idea!!! They need these at Disineyland!!:thumbsup2

You will probably get wet, could get soaked (especially your shoes which they won't let you take off). Just walk around wet like everyone else does...been there and done it many times - one time we went on 6 times in a row, pretty sure I had nothing left to get wet at that point.

We only go on as a family during the summer. The kids go on year round, and I have them bring a change of clothes/shoes and put them in a locker. I'm not interested enough in the ride myself to go through the hassle of changing clothes, but they are, lol. It's one of my favorites, but I can wait for summer :)

It really does depend on the time of year you are going. In the summer we usually just air dry, but when its cooler we like a change of clothes. I will often take anything off any layers of clothing that I can and remain decent (hoodie or the shirt Im wearing over my tshirt) that way if Im not TOO wet I can just put those layers back on.

I also want to say, those dryers look great, but $5?!? Thats highway robbery! :rotfl2:

As for the park hopping, it is a very simple process to change parks, just walking across the plaza. Short, and fast.

I won't ride this ride anymore either without a poncho because I always get soaked - head to toe soaked (I'm always grateful that I wear sports sandals in the parks and not running shoes with socks or those would be wet too)!
The poncho doesn't keep you totally dry, but it definitely helps!
We also tend to ride it when we're about to leave the park anyway if it's not hot, if it's a hot sunny day then we might ride it earlier in the day - but always with our dollar store ponchos :)

It's definitely very easy and enough time in the day to park hop. The two park entrances are directly across from eachother! We usually hop back and forth between the parks a few times in a day - collecting fastpasses in the two parks as we go along :)

In the Disney Parks DVD, it explains that Disney GRR has the ability to be "turned down" on colder days so guests do not get as wet, and turned up in hotter days. It's all underground mechanics with the rapids.

The manufacturer claims that five people can fit into their most popular model.

They could theoretically be free. I saw a photo of one where it was only $3, but I'm not sure how long the cycle would be.

We always bring a change of clothes in our bag and change into slip on shoes in the GRR queue. I bring ziplock bags so we can but the wet clothes in after and not get everything in our bag wet.

You will get wet - how wet is dependent on where you sit and the weight distribution on the raft. We have never been SOAKING the 30 or so times we've rode it but I have seen people who are very very wet.

Regarding the hopper pass, we haven't ever spent the entire day at CA but I'm sure you could. It's a 2 minute walk to Disneyland so we always get the hopper and jump around for food or when we want to ride something different. I will say that Disney has better food and more choice, IMO.

Have fun!

I bring the cheap flip flops in my backpack. Change into them in line so I don't end up with wet socks and shoes. Don't forget ziplock bags for phone/camera.
