Ok, so I always knew I wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer....now I get a chance for 63,959 other people to agree with me!

Here's my stupid question....I just reserved with National/EA today, got my confirmation & now when I look back at all my scribbles of possible contract ID, rate code, & coupon code combinations I can't remember which one I finally reserved under!!

I know I didn't use a rate code, and I KNOW I used the Entertainment coupon because it says so on my rate quote. But on my confirmation e-mail it says contract code - 5007125 which I think is the generic contract code for Nat'l, but I'm almost positive I used the Carlson contract code. So, my question (you didn't think I'd ever get to it did you!) is PLEASE tell me the contract code won't make me provide something at the booth. I have the ENT coupon & will take my card. Can you tell I'm a novice (1st time!) at renting a car. Please help me all you rental car guru's!

Carlson code is 5760339. Try re-entering your scribble of codes onto a new ressie until you get you existing rate, then you'll know whichever group of codes you used. You're not the first person to go through code overload! Remember to print out your ressie and write down whatever codes you used onto it for the next time. If you try again in the future, and you should, you might get better rates reusing the same group of codes or trying new ones found here or at
http://www.mousesavers.com/rentalcar.html
http://www.rentalcodes.com/
Try these places for other codes too.
good luck...Mark

It's no use....I've tried to go back & re-enter different contract codes to no avail.....when the system is working right & a quote goes through, they are all much higher than the one I booked yesterday. Most of the time I can't even get a quote, the system seems to be really wacky lately.

I guess what I really want to know is what paperwork will I need when at the booth? I printed both the quote page & I also have the e-mail confirmation from National. If it's the e-mail confirmation, it specifically shows the Natl contract code on my quote (5007125) and also lists the Promotional Discount as the Ent. 2004 Book -20.00. If that's the case, I should be alright with just my license, Ent. coupon & Ent. card right? Sorry to sound so panicked about this but I don't want to spend extra time at the booth without a clue of what I'm doing, and I certainly don't want to hold up any people behind me!

You are good to go. The rates change constantly, so, it is not surprising that you cannot duplicate the rate.
However, if you think you can better your rate by using a different contract code, go to the modify reservation screen.
If it comes out better with a different code, then accept it, if not, click on "keep original reservation".
I always carry the EC card, just in case.

Thanks Gail.....While I appreciate (truly!) ALL the help I get on these boards, I am so reassured by your response. I've searched many threads trying to learn as much as I can about rental cars, specifically National, & have come to the conclusion that you are the expert!

That is very nice of you to say, but, I am no expert, honest, and, most of the stuff I have learned has been from experience and reading these boards. But, thank you, you made my night. :)

If you used an Entertainment coupon, wouldn't you have used both the coupon ID and the contract ID from that coupon? I'm thinking that's what your contract ID is. I know when I've used ent. coupons in the past with National, I've always used the contract ID along with the coupon ID - I think it's required in order to use the coupon.

Threeboysmom: Even with all my confusion, I'm positive I did NOT use the contract ID from the ENT coupon. I've seen other posts about how you can combine a coupon code with a different contract code so those are the combos I was using. And I know the contract code I used gave me a separate discount from the ENT coupon because it's listed as -$14 Discount, $-20 ENT 2004 coupon, so evidently the contract code wasn't affiliated with the ENT coupon. Sorry to beat a dead horse about this...Gail says I should be fine, and I am feeling better about it :D I just know this may help any other posters in the future to understand exactly what "contract code" & "coupon code" mean. I sure have learned alot from reading these boards.

Not with National, you can combine different coupons and codes and contract ids. One of my favorites is to use the EC contract id and the coupon from BJs.

Mary from Mousesavers indicates this is ok too. http://www.mousesavers.com/rentalcar.html#national

All these years using National and I never knew that you didn't have to use the ent. contract when using an ent. coupon! Thanks!!! This gives me SO many more options to explore! :)

I'm glad I'm not the only person who does this! Do be sure to have the Emerald club card too, because 5007125 is the contract ID for that.

You no longer have to bring the EC card with you, everything is linked via your name.

Is the Carlton code available for anyone to use? I just tried it for my reservation and it saved me 70.00. I would love to use it if it is allowed. TIA
