Sorry to bore all of you but I've been trying to get some Christmas shopping done. My two children are teens and I do try to buy meaningful gifts......

DS is a Boy Scout and hopes to one day be a Park Ranger. We've visited numerous National Parks over the years. About 4 years ago he bought a hiking staff and collects the medallions from his Scout ranks, accomplishments, etc. He also has some from the Parks.

I just did a massive web search and finally found a site that sells medallions from a lot of the Parks that we have visited and ordered them. DS is going to be blown out of the water - different times he has remarked that he wished he had the medallion from Yellowstone, Mammoth Caves, etc. Come Christmas morning, he will.

Sorry for the long and boring post, as you were!:teeth:

...huh? Wha..? Did someone say something? :)

 Hi Pam...that's great news!

that sounds like a really neat gift. :)

Pam, that's great. It's so hard to buy gifts for teens. It really makes a difference when you know they'll love it. And you son will know that you know him well enough to get something he really wants. Congrats.

I gave up on finding the perfect gifts this year, so we're going to WDW, that's all they get.

What a thoughtful gift! I'm sure your DS will be thrilled!

Not boring at all Pam....I think it is wonderful gift. He will love it!!

Wish I could come up with something good for my 20-something DS

:) You're a good mom. He's going to love that as a gift.:)

We go to the local National Park a lot. My kids love to go there and explore.:)

Thanks for sharing Pam. I also like to put a lot of thought into gifts. Yours sounds wonderful. It is so much fun to find something obscure and really neat for someone else!:D

How exciting, Pam! Your DS will be very happy! :)

What a great, thoughtful gift!!!! Don't you just love when you find the "perfect" gift for someone??? I almost enjoy watching them open it more than they enjoy getting it!

I think this is wonderful, Pam.

And thanks for sharing it with us. I've a big smile on my face from reading it. :D

You are just the coolest TOGA wearing mama ever!!!!

Very nice!!!!:)

Your post is not stupid. I enjoyed reading it. And I know your son will be very very happy!!!:)

What a special gift, I'll bet he is thrilled with it.

Great idea Pam! Mind sharing the site? I might have to order some for my DS. He'd love that for his Scout staff.

Pam, you know I have a Scout too and I don't think that's boring at all:D

Thanks everyone for the nice replies!

Melissa,
The website is www.theparksco.com

Also - I can't find a web address for the Philmont store - but - on the Philmont Ranch site there is a link to request a catalog from them. I did so and received an email back that they were currently were out of catalogs but would send me one as soon as they get them reprinted.

Did your DD get the Math-A-Thon check yet?

Pam

Something else interesting about Yellowstone, they have different introductory packets of books and maps that you can order too. I have a packet and it has books about wildlife, nature, climate, history and terrain.

I think he'll love the gift you picked out!

It's fun being happy, isn't it!:D

Not boring, not boring at all! That's wonderful, Pam! I'm sure he'll be just as excited as you are!

Good job! :D
