Totally got suckered into buying a Kirby tonight... after a long 2 hour demo... and hearing this girls cancer story and feeling sorry for her... UGH!!!!!
As soon as they left I knew I was WRONG WRONG WRONG for agreeing to buy it. I called my DH (who was working) and he set me straight lol....told me NO WAY... called and cancelled it. So it'll be getting sent back. :guilty:
It's so pretty... I want it so bad but I know he is right... and here I am trying so hard to stay on a budget and then I get talked into this money trap!!! $$$$

We DO need a new vacuum SO badly though... We have a old cheap Bissell that we got as a wedding gift 6 years ago and I hate it! :snooty:

I got suckered in years ago, too. The guy showed up at my door the day after we had put our dog to sleep and DH was at work (no kids at that time). I was so upset about the dog that I let him in an totally got sucked in to the demonstration. I cancelled mine the next morning. That was the one good thing - that you could back out.

I have really bad allergies, and I know that the Rainbow Vacuum is the best on the market for allergies - so we saw our local representative out at a community vendor fair, signed up for an in home demo -

After the song and dance, here comes the price tag.....

$2,700!!!! :crazy2:

So, after being point blank and saying YES, we want one - but there is no way on earth we would pay that for a vacuum cleaner - NO WAY!

We bargained, bargained, bargained - and finally the representative said, I tell you what - I just got a one year old one in on trade, it doesn't have this, this, and this..... but it will do all you want it to.... for THIS price - and after bargaining a little more, and getting him to replace the sweeper head with the newer version - BAM we got what we wanted, for what we wanted to pay (actually less than what I had in mind) and WE LOVE IT!!!!!

That is the best vacuum ever!

We had one growing up, and they have improved the product SO MUCH since then - it really is one of the best things we have purchased in a REALLY long time.

We had (and still have) a Dyson Animal - and the Rainbow picks so much dust up that the Dyson leaves behind!

If you want a good deal on a Rainbow - call your local distributor and ask if they have any used/refurbished products for sale!

Our representative said he has at least 3 customers that buy a new one every 2 years if they need it or not - Rainbow definitely has some dedicated owners!

There is a Federal Law that requires any purchase where the seller comes to your home and takes an order you have three business days to cancel the order. Read all the paperwork carefully. Send both an e-mail as well as through USPS in writing certified return receipt to cancel the order.

If you paid by check contact your bank for procedures. If you paid by card contact the card issuer.

And you may get more advice at www.creditboards.com

Eureka airspeed. They sell it at Walmart for $99-130. Best vacuum ever and so cheap. Your dh will be happy!

I got a Eureka Boss several years ago for even less. Still works like a charm and was highly rated by Consumer Reports. It is really good on pet hair.

A vacuum cleaner would have to get itself out of the closet, move my son's socks and shoes in the middle of the floor, vacuum (and maybe mop and dust) and put itself away before I would even consider paying the prices for Kirby, Rainbow, etc. I have no doubt they're better than the Shark I use, but they're not worth it to me. I also can't wrap my brain around people making payments for years on a vacuum cleaner.

I used to sell Kirby one summer in college. They are the best....far better than Rainbow, Dyspn, etc. That said, I got mine off eBay for around $300. Works great (they last forever). You do have 3 business days to return it. Just take it back and get a used one. :)

I had a Kirby for years, they do last forever. What finally killed ours was the house fire. We didn't want another one (which we could have gotten replaced for free) so instead we got the Dyson Animal which we love. But we only have carpet in the bedrooms, we have hardwood and tile in the rest of the house so the animal works great for us.

I had a Eureka Boss for the whole year it lasted before it started smoking and could not be fixed.

I do hope you didn't give them a list of your friends names for the discount so they could call and try and sell to them. I wanted to choke my friend and SIL who gave them my information after they got sucked in to buying one.

I have a funny Kirby story to share.

About 6 years ago they were offering carpet shampooing for free (they'd do the whole room and demo the vacuum at the same time). I already had a Kirby that my mom had recently given me, but had NO idea how it worked, so I agreed to the demo (I was VERY upfront with them and said I had NO intention of buying it).

She put on the hard pressure for sales - talked about the motor lasting forever, etc. I told her I had a Kirby that was 17 or 18 years old - she told me I should replace it because of the motor. I just looked at her and said "but you just told me the motors last forever" (not literally, I know). She stumbled over her words a bit and couldn't come up with an answer. She then packed up and left without finishing my floor - even left a bit of dirt on my carpet. I wasn't mad, kind of amused, really. But to this day I will allow NO salespeople into my home, uninvited!

I will definitely be looking for something else, good quality but affordable!!!

And NO way I did not give them any name and numbers of anyone, I would not do that!!! :headache:

That is the last time I let them in. This is the 2nd demo we have had done.
I really hate the part of "it'll only take 10 minutes" and it really lasts over 2 hours!!!!!

We got suckered by the Kirby people. New house new baby = new Kirby gold vacuum cleaner. We now have laminate throughout the house and only vacuum area rugs but I will hold onto that thing forever because I still cannot think of the price without shaking my head (we will be upgrading houses eventually so carpet is not completely out someday).

I know others don't like them but I love my Dyson and at times Target has them at a nice discount after they give you a gift card.

I am glad you didn't give them names and numbers.

Don't feel bad about it I once had roofers come out for an estimate. Two of them simply measured the roof and gave us a break down and price for each level of roofing. Took less than a half hour. The third came in and explained every little detail down to the special nails they patented themselves. He took almost 3 hours as my husband and I rolled our eyes at one another. At the end he showed us the estimate that was twice as much as the other two and told us but if we signed with them that day, paid in full without needing credit, also if we allowed them to fit us in in the next 3 months sometime he would cut the cost in half. I promtly thanked him for wasting so much of our time but I don't cave to pressure sales and felt sorry for the older ladies in my area that he talked of that did. The jerk had the nerve to call a week later to make sure we didn't change our mind. lol

Kirby's are GREAT vacuums, just don't buy one at full price from a salesman. We got our Kirby 5th gen. with ALL of the attachments (shampooer too) for about $150 shipped on Ebay 2-3 years ago. My mother had one she bought in 1969 and retired it just a few years ago.
