Stupid dog ate DH's valentine candy

I went upstairs earlier and my whole bedroom smelled like chocolate. There on the floor was the 1lb box of Valentine candy, minus the cellophane wrapping, part of the box and all the chocolate candy Called Poison Control--thank goodness he's a big dog(75lb Standard Poodle)! They said it wouldn't kill him, but he might have an upset stomach. Called the vet too, and she said the same thing. If he were a little dog, it might be a bad outcome.

I can't believe he did that! I am so ticked. And he's laying there sleeping like it's no big deal! Crazy dog.

Sorry for your dog. But I can't help but giggle about that. Our dog loves Valentines Day candy too. I kept blaming the sweetpea for eating all the candy in the cute candy dishes on the coffee tables and then leaving the wrappers. Turns out it was our dog. Not a ton....just a few hershey kisses here and there.

I learned the hard way that dogs love chocolate when I had wrapped a box and put under the Christmas tree for my mom when I was a teenager. Luckily our dog was OK, she was a small dog, we caught her before she ate too much.

I'm glad your pup is ok. One of the dogs we had a number of years ago helped himself to about 4 dozen choco.chip cookies from off the counter while my mother went to change the laundry down the basement. We still crack up about it to this day he was sleeping innocently so my mom thought and then made his move...btw he was 13 at the time.

I can't believe he did that! I am so ticked. And he's laying there sleeping like it's no big deal! Crazy dog.

typical dog! Scouty likes to get into the kitchen garbage can from time to time. He has learned how to open cupboard doors so now we have a "Scouty Lock" on it when he is alone...which is a wooden spoon put between both door handles.

See we always trust Shadow and THAT is a big mistake. We have trained him not to touch anything on the counter so for the most part he just stares at it for hours hoping I think to move it through thought process alone. HOwever, and this is not a candy story but kind of funny. ONe day I made lasagna and put it on the counter to cool. IT was a 9x 13 pan. My husband likes it the kids don't so it was his supper and then I was going to freeze the rest for another time. I go upstairs and after about a half hour DH comes in and comes upstairs. He is complaining that the kids only left him a couple of mouthfuls for supper. NOw I KNOW they would not touch it with a 10 foot pole. I go down stairs and there is the empty pan but I notice it was parallel to the edge of the coutner. Shadow was no where to be seen!! When I did find him the only evidence was his breath smelled like garlic!

Of course then there are the W.W. low cal blondies I make for my diet. They are good but the kids KNOW they are off limits. I made a pan cut it and left it on the counter to completely cool. Came down stairs after about 45 minutes and I notice crumbs on the counter and only about 4 left in the pan. I took a nutty but then realized the kids were in their room AND the alarm was on so if they went down stairs I would have heard them....yep it was Shadow. His best trick is looking innocent!

My boxer ate our Halloween candy. I knew she did it because she smelled like chocolate - it was the first time she ever smelled good.

One of my dogs got up on a dining room chair, got up on the table, pulled the box of dark chocolate coated marzipan off the table and at the whole thing, including some of the box. This was the day after Valentine's day, needless to say, DH was quite unhappy that she had ruined his gift from me. She also at an entire bag of fish food alga tabs, including the plastic bag they were in. She never got ill from either thing.

When I was single living at home with my parents we had a chubby rascal beagle named Terry. I was going to my bf's grandmother's house for Easter dinner. I bought her a box of chocolates. While I was in the shower Terry decided to help himself to the box. Terry was known for having problems with gas, well let me tell you I sure was glad I didn't spend Easter with my family that year after he ate all the chocolates.

ugh! Thank goodness the dog is fine
We delt with this over Christmas. Our wonderful lab (who never gets table scraps)decided it need to eat the choc fudge! This was close to 3 pounds of homemade fudge! It got the lid off...and ate all of it...then threw up in every room in the house, and also got the runs...Totally ruined one rug, couldn't get the smell out of it...talk about a horrible day!
Luckily she is ok. It could have killed her.

My 100 pound yellow lab this past Christmas, snuck into the living room where all the homemade goodies were and ate a whole plate of Holly cookies(cornflake, marshmallow, green die,and red hots). I did find a wet pile of red hots in the corner of the room where he spit each one out. We were mortified waiting to see what would come out the other end with all the green die and marshmallows. Luckily he does his business outside!

Glad to hear your dog is ok. I had a dog who tried to help himself to the halloween candy. I had it in one of those sound sensitive bowls with the hand the hand that moves, well when he tried to sneek a candy it smacked him on the nose. Never went near the bowl again.

At Christmas, our 80 lb. lab ate a pound of chocolate covered pretzels and didn't get sick at all (ate dinner that nite too). Since he loves NylaBones, I got him a chocolate flavored one... won't even TOUCH it. If it's not REAL chocolate apparently he's not interested . Guess he's smarter than we thought

All Standard Poodles are required by Doggy Law to do this at least once in their lifetime.

My parent's SP, Tammy, did it when I was 10 and my SP Daphne found my Godiva Chocolates, and earned herself a trip to the Vet ER and a big dose of 'barf it up'. That was one expensive Valentine's Day.
