Stuffing/Dressing

Best of both worlds...stuffed and then extra is cooked on the side!

:bride: Mrs. Disney Ron

We do both too...I just have to have the baked crunchy part that spills out of the turkey in the oven. I'm going after anyone's eyes who tries to take it!

I make cornbread dressing. My MIL makes stuffing. I had never had stuffing until I started dating DH. I went home and told my whole family how she stuffed the turkey. My entire family was shocked. Three generations and none of us had ever heard of it. Can you tell we're from the South?

Since DD10 is on a "Save the Turkeys" kick, we don't eat it at our house (I don't know, don't ask me...:confused3 :lmao: ). We have ham for T'giving, and dressing baked seperately.

down here, we do not stuff...it is ALWAYS on the side as dressing.

My family is also from the south. We've always had stuffing and dressing.:confused3

We used to do both (not enough room in the bird for an ample amount of stuffing, so had to make extra on the side). But in the past few years we've stopped stuffing and just make dressing separately. We stuff the cavity with fresh herbs, onions, lemons, and oranges to give the meat extra flavor. We've also found that the turkey stays juicier without the bread inside absorbing all the moisture.

Gee! I hope no one reads "Charlotte's Web" to her!!

We do the best of both worlds, too. Haven't found a turkey, yet, that would hold all the stuffing that we'd need!

My side of the family has dressing, which DH always calls stuffing. If it's a large gathering, you'll find both cornbread dressing and oyster dressing on the Thanksgiving table. Yes, my family's from the South.

DH's family is from Ohio via Nebraska. His family always stuffs the turkey, but prepares no extra stuffing. How are you supposed to make turkey sandwiches on Friday without the leftover dressing/stuffing? :confused3

My Grandmother Eunice (font of great wisdom and all things cooking) said that many cooks undercooked the bird. If the bird was stuffed, there was a chance that you could get sick from eating the stuffing. :scared1:

Today, thanks to cheap turkey timers, the chance of eating an undercooked bird is low. I eat stuffing, but not until I've seen the bird carved. :thumbsup2

Mmmm turkey and dressing/stuffing ... move over, I brought my fork!

I always make dressing so its outside of the bird. I make 2 kinds, regular and oyster. I use to make more regular than oyster, but over the years it seems the oyster is more popular. I don't know if its because the people that like the oyster eat more dressing or if more people like oyster.

I always cook the turkey with dressing and stuffing. My classical stuffing is with rice, raisins, onion and mushrooms. The dressing is: watter, butter, white dry wine and soy sauce.
