stuffed tomatoes help

I'm making Provencal Tomatoes. The recipe says to sprinkle with Gruyere Cheese. I have cheddar and mozzarella. Which would be most like it. I'm thinking Mozzarella, but anyone who knows what Gruyere is like, please let me know. Thanks.

Neither cheddar or mozzarella are similar. Gruyere is similar to a swiss cheese.

I agree, but if I had to choose one or the other, it would have to be mozzarella. Cheddar just doesn't seem like it would taste good on a tomato, but mozzarella would.

Thanks. I'll go with the Mozz. The store I was at didn't have Gruyere - said most people don't want to spend $9.00 for a pound of cheese. But at least I know Swiss is a good alternative. Chow!

I've bought Gruyere before and it didn't cost that much. If it did I probably wouldn't have bought it. It was prepackaged, not from the deli.
