Stuffed peppers.. Like them or hate them?

Ick! I hate them, but DH loooooves them- he is always after me to make them for him. they rank right up there with meatloaf (another of DH's faves) on the "Yuck scale" for me.

When forced, I make them with a mixture of ground beef and ground pork, seasonings, and rice. Then, I top them with tomato sauce.

I like them, but I'm the only one in my family that does. Therefore, I buy the frozen ones, too! Are you having Stouffer's by any chance? They are good!

Yup - my "secret" is out..:rotfl:

I like stuffed cabbage too, but have never tried to make it myself..

Love em. Make them with banana peppers though - cooks through easier. They are really very simple to make. ground beef/aborio rice/ tomato mmmm.

Macaroni, huh? That's interesting.. Do you still use tomato sauce? Include any cheese?

I have a mother who hates rice so she always substituted... I use hamburger, pre- cooked macaroni, tomato sauce, basil ,oregano , garlic ,worcestershire sauce and usually american cheese ..I put it in the crock pot and let it cook for a long time.. I like the peppers nice and soft

Hate anything pepper. Well not the personality or appearance, just the taste.

My wife keeps telling me "try sweet peppers, they are not hot"

HA!

they are peppers!!!!

Ketchup is hot for me!

MIkeeee

Now that does sound yummy! I have a couple of family members that don't like rice, so maybe I'll try your recipe instead.. :) And I love that it can be done in the crock pot - out of the way and the mess from cooking is cleaned up long before we sit down to eat..:thumbsup2

The only thing I would add is that you should put a bit of the stuffing under the peppers, just in case the crock pot gets too hot, and add the cheese at the end

Thanks! :)

I love stuffed peppers but haven't made them in years and years.

Two funny stories about my stuffed pepper cooking.

The first time I made them (still in college) I didn't pre-cook the rice. I cooked them a long, long time but still had these hard little rice grains!

They can be quite time consuming to make - brown the beef, blanch the peppers, grate the cheese, cook the rice, etc. etc. One time I made a HUGE batch and had them on a cookie sheet ready to freeze them.

I was just letting them cool off. I spent the evening answering the door for trick or treaters in my neighborhood. At the end of the evening when I went back in the kitchen I found that my dog had eaten half of them. I assumed that he had licked the rest of them so I threw out the rest.

They were up on a table, but this was the smart dog that would go get a chair and move it to the table so he could hop up there. That may be the last time I made them.

I !

.

You can at least skip the blanching if you put them in the crock pot...I think I'm going to make and freeze some

I use the recipe from Betty Crocker. It has green peppers, rice, onion, hamburg (occasionally I use ground turkey), tomato sauce and cheese. Yummy!!!

DD9 asks for them all the time.

Green peppers are normally used but we like the red and stuff with rice and lamb.

I LOL'd when I read the subject. Stuffed Peppers = nightmare food from my childhood. Along with pinto beans 'n cornbread, ham-and-string beans, :scared:

Love red peppers stuffed with hot sausage and rice. Yummy

My husband and I love stuffed red peppers. I make alot in the fall and freeze them for the winter.

My FIL thinks I make the best in the family. I know when he's ready for stuffed peppers when he shows up with a bag of red peppers.

I made them once, with a mixture of rice/hamburger/onion/seasonings but really didn't care for them all that much. I love RAW green peppers, but cooked...not so much.

I hate stuffed peppers, but it's all in my head! The smell reminds me of childhood dinners when we'd all gather 'round the dinner table and.... rip each other's heads off! Ahhh the memories!
