I was very surprised to read that studios and 1BR at AKL only have one real bed and the other 2 guests sleep on a pull out couch. 1. Is the pull out couch comfy? 2. We have two small kids (one boy/one girl) who are ok to share a bed at this point. In the future, that will change and even if we book a 1BR a couch is what you get. What other options are there if you don't want to go up to a 2BR? Can you request a rollaway bed? Are there some studios or one bedrooms at other resorts that do have two beds? 3. Is a studio even realistic for a family of four or are you so cramped that it is miserable? Thanks in advance for the advice!

The Studios at OKW have 2 queen beds.
The Studios at VWL and VGF have a queen bed, sleeper sofa and a pull-down bunk size bed.
All other studios have a queen bed and a sleeper sofa.

The 1-Bedrooms at BLT, OKW and AKV have a sleeper sofa and a sleeper chair in the living room.

All other 1-Bedrooms only have the sleeper sofa in the living room.

Roll away beds are not available at any DVC resort.

We always brought a twin airbed to set up near the bathroom/kitchenette/doorway in a studio. We drive down so it is easy. I have a duffel bag which holds the airbed, sheet set, pump, and blanket. Our girls always take a pillow to rest in the car so we bring that in.
When we are not at Disney we cruise, so the studio is about twice the size of the ship cabin and very spacious for the family!

Depends on how much you like your kids when they get to be teenagers. ;)

IMO, the studios were designed for singles or couples. But it depends on your family's need for space.

Remember that the room occupancy limits are just that - limits. They don't say anything about comfort. Other than at OKW, there's very little room to move around in the room once the sofa bed's open.

BLT has the same setup as OKW and AKV for 1-bedrooms.

Thanks for the input. I could see a sleeper chair as an option once the kids get older...will look closer at BLT and AKV 1 BR's. Thanks!

We are a family of 4 with 2 grown daughters. For anything past a night or 2 we need the 2-bedroom. It's not the space it's the lack of beds. The 2 bedroom gives the girls their own beds and bath

We have 2 older sons also, 27 and 19. Six years ago we decided when they were 21 and 13 that it would be our last vaca in one hotel room. Have neve err looked back. LOVE having the 2br units with full kitchen and laundry and living room. Looking forward to the day that the boys have there own families and we can take our grandchildren one day! DS and my first vaca in a studio without the boys will be this Dec! Studio will be perfect for the two of us.

We have done a studio for 4 on several occasions. With DD and DS when they were in early 20s and we wanted to save points we brought an air bed and it was fine. Other times we have done two studios. One for them and one for us. Key here is that it gives us two bathrooms AND enables us not to have to look at the mess they make of their stuff. Unless you need a kitchen it is much better than a one bedroom.

When I need more than what a studio alone can offer from a capacity standpoint, I find that getting 2-studios is the best option for me. We do not cook on our vacations, so I have no need for the kitchen / laundry facilities. That along with the points savings makes this the best option for us.
