Studio vs 1-Bedroom, does the washer/dryer convince you to use the extra points?

Hi everyone,

We are typically one bedroom or two bedroom users. However, DH and I are making our own trip just the two of us for Princess weekend in February. I have a studio booked at RIV (first time trying the resort, YAH, so excited!!). However, I am used to having a washer/dryer in the room -- I do love the ease and convenience. I am debating if I want to move us into a one-bedroom (either there or anyone else that would be open at 7 months). Because we are running that weekend, I will have clothes that will need washing that I prefer not to pack while soiled (lol). For the folks who book studios a lot, how do you like the laundry situation when you use the resort washer/dryers? Is it pretty easy? I appreciate any insight. Thank you! 💜

For us, the W/D is an important part of why we do 1BRs. It's so much easier packing for a trip when you can periodically throw some clothes in the washer. My spouse has also taken to doing a load of wash (some trips) just before we leave, making the unpacking easier! We also love the extra room, (in some cases) the extra bathroom, and the full-sized appliances. If you can afford the points, it might be worth it! If you don't have the points, you can still do laundry - you just have to track down the machines at the resort to do so.....

It’s a big thing for us and I usually book the 1 bedroom if we are going to be there for more than one night.

Now, we have time studios for first two nights if we know we are going to a larger unit when we split stay.

It’s worth it for us since we can pack so much lighter and even if we check a bag, we have room to bring things back with us!

DH and I consider a 1BR a requirement for any stay of 4 nights or more, because it’s so convenient to do a load overnight or while we’re eating breakfast and getting dressed in the morning. On one summertime visit it was so hot and humid even after the sun went down that our clothes were soaked in sweat, and when we got back to the room at night we literally stripped everything off immediately and tossed it into the washer. We joked that we didn’t really need to bring any other clothes that trip, because we could have worn the same outfits every day!

This here would push me to a 1BR. Why have to take time to carry your clothes to the laundry room, maybe have to wait for a washer to become available, then go back and move your things to a dryer, and go back and pick them up again, when you could just pop them into the washer immediately after your run?

Convinces me only if I have extra points (rare) but I truly LOVE having a washer and dryer. We got drenched on our May trip. I mean drenched 2 days. It was wonderful to have that dryer to dry our shoes, even though we had to hear clunk clunk. I know the BWV dryers would have been lined up to the door.

I have always been "if we get a studio, we can stay longer/ have more trips". That changed in the last few years.

Last couple of trips, we have gotten 1 bedrooms for the two of us. With now using a scooter, it can be tight parking in room
plus DH still needs to use rollator to get around room.

Since I now have to carry bags, even for a short amount, having the washer/dryer, I can pack way less and wash every day. Before we spent a fair amount in the room, but spent a lot of time checking if washers were open and running back and forth to room.

Kitchen area, for us the biggest difference is having the freezer. Our cooking in room hasn't changed that much from studio to 1 bedroom. Still mostly use coffee pot, toaster and microwave, but love not trying to play tetris with food in dorm fridge and having cold/frozen drinks to take to parks. For us, $13 for burger and fries is crazy, but $5 for a soda is way beyond crazy.

I've never tried it, but I've read if you trap the shoe laces on the dryer door, you can dry them without the clunk clunk.

Never heard that! Thanks for the tip. I'm very careful not to make noise for my next door 'neighbors' and thankfully, both nights we had to dry the saturated shoes was early evening.

Thanks again.

We book 1 bedrooms for the two of us because:

King Bed
Separate living & kitchen space so early riser / late night owl don't have to tip toe around :)
Washer/Dryer (pack less)
Two TVs & two remotes
Split bathroom or two bathrooms
Full size refrigerator
Dining Table that ISN'T under a TV

We do stay 2 or 3 nights in a resort studio at VGF when we are doing a spit stay, but always do the 1 bedroom for the last part of the split.

Thank you so much--this is the very reason I am really inclined to do this. It's one thing to deal with regular stinky clothes. It's a whole other matter when the clothes are post run stinky.... 🤪 🤣

We book the 1BR for the king bed and the extra room to lounge about, not for the W/D. The only time we used the W/D was our last trip (2BR dedicated) when the 6 year old dumped ice cream all over her only remaining clean shorts, and it was going to be hot the next day so she couldn't wear long pants.

It's nice but it's not the main reason I like 1BR. More for the king bed, extra space, full size refrigerator and separated sleeping areas. Although now DW seems to think we can't manage a WDW trip without doing laundry in the room, even though we did 20+ years of trips in hotel rooms just fine 🤣

We LOVE the Washer and Dryer. If it's just my wife and I we will book a deluxe studio but we'll still do at least one load of laundry during our trip of usually 5-7 nights. We carry on and it's just easier to do a load of laundry. But, I also don't want to spend the points on a 1 BR for just the two of us. The properties have laundry areas so usually we just go there. I don't take naps, she does. So when she's napping I just go throw in laundry and either go into the gym or the pool or both while laundry is done.

When we stay at BWV the laundry is right next to the gym area and the pool. When we stayed the last time at SSR in the Grandstand it was next to the pool. I just jumped in the pool , grabbed a drink and relaxed while the laundry was going.

We love having a 1-BR, but it's not for the washer/dryer. We just like having the extra room. I tend to stay up late; DH is an early riser. I rarely do laundry on vacation. I know a lot of people say they like doing their laundry before returning home. I cannot do that for two reasons: 1. I don't want to take time to do laundry on vacation and 2. I prefer to have clean clothes without wrinkles, so I like to wash clothes once I get home, dry for a few minutes, and then hang up to dry.

With that said, if I was running a race, I would probably at least wash those clothes. I've stayed in studios before, and it's not a big deal to use the resort's laundry facilities. But with that said, if I had the extra points, I would definitely book a 1-BR!

I used SSR grandstand laundry to wash run clothes marathon weekend, and I agree, it was really not very inconvenient. I typically save the points and book a studio.

Yes, the washing machine is huge - especially if it is not just 2 people - and if the kids are little....

2 adults, I don't think I would care about the W/D - we don't stay long enough maximum 6-7 nights and we drive...

The kitchen is also huge as a selling point - a true kitchen that we can cook with - anything longer than 3 nights seems to require it because we get sick of eating out for every meal every day...

We've booked studios and 1br. Kitchen/refrigerator is usually a bigger factor for us, but in our times in a studio, the shared laundry was fine, I don't recall it being busy for any of our trips.
