Hi opinions please on studio versus one bedroomed at OKW. We are a family of four and we'd have the dining plan so wouldnt cook as such but wondered if the extra room and space in fridge for drinks, ability to amke snacks etc would make a big differnece. We are used to sharing a room at POP /values so Um guessing either of these options is a step up for us.
Also by August how many of the rooms will be refurbished?
Cheers sam

Last yar we stayed at SSR in a 1 bed and the size and having a full kitchen, 2 rooms was great. However this year we've gone for a studio at OKW mainly due to the price difference ! The downside of a 1 bed is the children had to sleep on a sofa bed and my daughter found it really uncomfortable so at least she will have a bed this year.

Some details here about OKW http://allears.net/acc/g_okw.htm

If you are used to sharing in a value room then a studio is adequate, we have had a studio last twice and booked same again for this August. We like to have 2 proper beds so 1 bed villa does not interest us, 2 bed villas look amazing though, just too much money for 3 of us.

Renovations are supposed to be completed by Spring, been going on a long time.

The studio was fine for the three of us. There was a good little kitchenette which was fine for making snacks and breakfast. If we didn't have more people coming this year we would be straight back in the studio. Advantages for 1 bed would be seperate bedroom, but then sofa beds in lounge, and it has a big, spa-type bath.

You will love it either way - I would def save the money and take the studio.

hi thanks for answers just to clarify for us, some photos show single chair as bed settee others show double settee as bed ...which one is it or is it both? Thanks

The refurbished rooms at OKW have both a single chair sleeper and a queen sofa sleeper.

We prefer the extra room as we are on holiday and dont want to share a room with DD ;) it's the main reason we own DVC!

The difference between a one bed and a studio is greatest at OKW. Sure a studio (2 double beds) is adaquate but a one bed is amazing - huge jacuzzi bath, seperate laundry room, 2 settees, sleeper chair in the refurbished rooms, huge fridge, big balcony and loads and loads of space. Have to admit as a couple we always go for a one bed at OKW!

We recently stayed at OKW (Turtle Pond Block 42) in a 2 bed villa and my parents in a Studio. They were comfortable in a studio for the short amount of time they spent there during the day. But food preparation was almost imposssible. Paper plates and plastic cutlery was provided which was totally inadequate for even making toast in the morning.

Whereas on the other hand we had a full kitchen and laundry facilities in our villa. Which made a huge difference to our overall experience and would truly recommend for families with children. The villa was brilliant as the children could crash out at night time in their own room while we chilled for an hour or two in the lounge before bed. Admittedly we have 3 children (5,7, & 9) so it made great sense to opt for the larger villa but it really helped for us all to have our own bit of space.

I am so glad you posted this. I was just thinking the 1BR I have booked for October was a mistake as its just me and my son but I really do love the extra features you get in the 1BR villas. This will be my first stay at OKW and first time doing the DDP too - so excited:cool1:

Has anybody else used the sofa bed before? we have a 2 bed villa at okw and I will be on the sofa bed. I can usually sleep on anything anywere so shouldnt be a problem but have heard a couple of people say there really bad??

If a 1 bed fits your budget then go for it! We were upgraded from studio to a 1 bed at SSR last year (for free! :goodvibes ) and found the best thing, apart from the huge jacuzzi bath tub, was the washing machine & dryer!

We are going on a Disney cruise after SSR this year and to be able to clean and dry all our cloths before we go is going to be a godsend! :thumbsup2

we've stayed in the 2 BR on 3 different visits - all three times were extended stays (3 weeks)..
the 2 BR was AMAZING!!!!!! absolutely gigantic - 1350 square feet - with tons of storage.

it was wonderful having a laundry room (much bigger than my laundry room at home, i might add)..

the kitchen was great - we ate breakfast and dinner in the room every day - that was when the kids were younger and fussier about what they ate....
it was very convenient to just eat in the suite.....there's a wonderful grocery store about a mile or so from WDW.....i forgot the name...i'll look it up....

there really isn't anything negative i could say about the OKW 2 BR suite - other than the price.......but as i recall, we got it at a good discount all 3 times....

How did you get your free upgrade? Did you ask on check in or was it something that was just offered without you asking?

I have not stayed at 1 bedroom at okw but did at the Boardwalk last month and it was amazing. I honestly could have just lived there!! There was onlly the two of us and we loved it, we found it really difficult to move into a studio at wilderness lodge later in the trip.

If you can easily afford it I would go for it!

We must have got the CM on a good day! We checked in as normal and they just said we had been upgraded! :goodvibes It was our first time staying onsite at Disney and it seems we were just very lucky as it doesn't happen very often!!

I had a theory that it was a crafty sales tactic as now we only want to go if it's in the villas so Disney get the extra cash out of us! (Kinda makes sense if you think about it eh?! :rotfl: )

We stayed at All star movies Dec 09 and Okw studio Oct 10.

There are 3 of us.

If you are used to a value and don't mind that then you will be fine in a studio. There was alot more room in the okw studio than the value room.

I loved having the kitchen area - toaster, microwave, coffee pot, fridge. I made breakfast most mornings - bagels, pop tarts, cereal or left over dessert. That's all the cooking I do on hols - was alot easier for me than going to the food court.

The one beds are alot bigger but for us, not worth paying £500 more.

Block 42 by turtle pond is fully renovated and was a lovely location.
