I have heard the term "studio plus" a few times. What is that and which resorts offer them?

Hi Jade,

Studio pluses are available at the BWV. This is the basic studio design with a child size day bed added.

The maximum occupancy in a studio plus is 5, verus 4 in a regular studio. Good for a family with 3 kids.

They will no longer guarantee a studio plus, though. I made reservations on March 1st for our trip January 25-31, 2002. Home resort is BWV. I wanted the studio plus, preferred view. It will be me, my best friend, and her two children (girl age 4, son age 9). They do not want to sleep together, so I asked to book the studio plus, so 4 year old can sleep on the child size daybed.

I was told that they will no longer guarantee the studio plus for anyone MAKING reservations from this point forward. (If you've made your ressie in the past and your confirmation states you're getting a studio plus, then you're okay, but you won't be able to guarantee it again in the future.)

She said she would NOTE the studio plus on my reservation, but I might not get it.

I wonder how it is that they can get away without guaranteeing a studio plus? Isn't that the only studio that is legal for a family of 5? What does that mean to a family of 5 that plans on staying a studio? <IMG SRC="/infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif" alt="confused">

Several months ago I reserved a studio plus for a visit in mid-March. My reservation had listed as room type "Studio Plus Preferred View". At the bottom of my reservation my requests were listed along with the disclaimer that requests were not guaranteed.

However, I was put in a regular studio. To make a long story short, the front desk was not very helpful and did very little about it. The manager told me a studio plus was a request and not guaranteed. I showed her my reservation with room type listed as "studio plus" and that it this was not listed with the requestes. I did get switched the next day (with a $25 room change charge).

When I got home I called member services and they told me that the studio plus was a just a request.

Anyway, I find it very misleading that you are not told this by member services when getting the room (although I see now they are) and I think the way the reservation form reads is very misleading. But maybe that's just me. I'm an OKW owner. Did BW owners know this and it just slipped by me?

PS Having the studio plus was very important to us. If I had known it was not a sure thing, I would have booked at OKW.

What I am saying is a studio plus is the only studio that "technically" holds 5, if a person tells MS that they have 5 and want a studio plus then I would think you could fight them on a "technicallity." Right?

No AnnK, since the studio plus was not truly a part of the POS and therefore there are no formal contractual listings for a studioplus sleep 5. You'd either need to bend the rules, take your chances or get a larger unit. I do think it's inappropriate to send someone a confirmation that says studio plus then not honor it. I can see DVC's side from all other arguements. Apparently this was a recent change in policy.

In the past we have had "studio plus" listed on our confirmation as room type, not as a request, and on those trips have gotten the studio plus, no problem. But they no longer do that.

The trip I booked last month for Jan. 2002 only lists "studio" as the room type and "studio plus" is in the list of requests (with Boardwalk view, top floor, etc.) When making this reservation I was told they no longer can even tell when looking at the computer how many studio vs. studio plus rooms are available. They are all just identified in the computer now as "studio."

My guess, and this is only my guess, is they are trying to "phase out" the five in a studio thing. Because if you can't be sure you're getting the daybed for a small child, it's going to be hard to bring 5 people and just "hope" you get it.

We have reserved two studio plus units for a Saturday night. 5 people in each room. If we get there and they do not have a studio plus for us, what happens? We are only staying at BWV for 1 night prior to our GV stay at OKW. Will they let us cram 5 (3 kids) in a studio? We borrowed points to do this and MS never said we would possibly have a problem. HELP!

Lori, I wouldn't worry about it. You told them the amount of people in the room. A couple of days in advance, give them a call to talk to the room coordinator, (or whatever their name is), and tell them they offered a plus because of the amount of kids. If they then tell you it's not guarenteed, don't worry about it! You told the truth, and they originally told you, you would have the plus. If there isn't a plus available, maybe they'll upgrade you. If not, they will be more than happy to give you more blankets and pillows for the extra. Have a great trip.

I asked for a studio plus my visit in Feb but got a regular. I only had 4 people but wanted the extra bed in case my two DS's started playing footsy. I didn't have that problem because they passed out the minute they hit the pillows.
As for the 5th person. Why not bring an inlatable bed just in case. They are small when not blown up and actually pretty comfortable to sleep on. You can use the hair dryer to blow them up.

Peterd, I had what I thought was a guaranteed studio plus, not a request. I asked about an upgrade since BW did not have what I thought I was guaranteed and I was told no, not unless I spent the extra points. So, Lori, I wouldn't count on that for a possible option. Inflatable bed is probably the best bet.
