I decided to stay at Studio Plus on 5/31/03. Studio Plus is owned by the same company that runs Extended Stay America and Crossland. I had made reservations at their properties, but I had to cancel them. Even after canceling them in the specified cancellation time, I was still charged for the room. This happened to me about four times at several different properties. I was very angry and wrote complaint letters. For these letters, I received two free weekend stay certificates. I had used one in the past. I decided to use the other one during this stay.

This Studio Plus property is by the Orlando Convention Center on 6443 Westwood Blvd. An Extended Stay is right next door. It’s about a mile from Sea World. Studio Plus had three stories. I was on the second story at the end of the hall. The rooms were very nice. My room had a large kitchen area (stove, refrigerator, sink), a recliner chair, a sofa, a bed, and a bath. The room was very large and clean. I could not find one problem with the room. The floors seem kind of flimsy, though. Parts of the floor squeaked as I walked across. I could also hear the upstairs neighbor walking on his squeaky floor.

The only problem I encountered was with check-in. There, I met Ms. Dumb and Mr. Dumber. Ms. Dumb first greeted me and checked me in. Dumb tried to charge me for the room until I showed her my free weekend stay certificate. I had noted on my reservation that I had one, but I guess she didn’t see it. She looked at the certificate as if it was written in a foreign language. Dumb asked Mr. Dumber for help. Dumber first tried to make a joke that wasn’t funny (“Sir, you need 100 points…sorry, just kidding”). With the problems I’ve had with the property, it isn’t a good time for jokes. Then he said that the certificate was for a week’s stay. I pointed out to Dumber that it said “weekend stay.” I suppose the eyes were too lazy to read “-end.” Dumber then said, “You’re staying Saturday to Monday?” No, the computer screen says one night. He tried to enter the certificate, but he didn’t know how to either. Dumber had to call his boss at home and ask him how to put it in (he said, “A guest just busted out a free weekend certificate and I don’t know how to put it into the computer”). Finally, he got me into the computer. He did ask for a credit card as a deposit.

I had stayed in my room, exhausted from the day. I watched “Eraser” on TBS until I fell asleep. The next morning, I checked out and the General Manager was manning the front desk. He couldn’t find the certificate that Dumb and Dumber couldn’t figure out. He checked me out and didn’t charge a thing.

I keep on having problems with this company’s properties. I have a feeling in my gut that the deposit wasn’t credited properly. The General Manager was handling my checkout so I hope it was credited, but with the bad charges that I’ve encountered, I fear I may be mis-charged again. If that happens, I think I will send the mother of all complaint letters to the company. Maybe I can get a free month’s stay.

LOL

Jeez, Barry, glad to hear the room was ok, BUT haven't you had it with this hotel chain!

If they screw up again, I wouldn't go back, free stay or not.

(I have two teenagers so I have enuf frustration around here, LOL.

I've really had it with this chain, honestly. I'd rather stay at the Travelodge Maingate at 8600 I-192 than this place. It's too bad. The rooms are nice. The staff is just Tweedledum and Tweedledee! :)
