Hello everyone

This is my first post on a briilant site, so much information.

We have finally decided to join the DVC:) and like the look of the OKW or SSR.

We visit every other year from the UK its just my DH and myself so we really only need a studio.

DH thought that we could now visit every year in a studio rather than every other year, which I know I should grab with both hands. But I really would like a 1 Bed villa as you have more kitchen facilities and a washer/dryer. Does it really make a difference or are the studios well equipped?.

The SSR appeals as well, are they still offering any deals here?
We like the fact the OKW seems to be the most peaceful, but we also love DD so the SSR would be a good idea as well.

Many thanks

Kath

I am assuming you stay a longer period since you are traveling from the UK. When staying longer, I always prefer the 1BR. To me, the extra amenities of the 1BR are better for a longer stay. As far as OKW vs. SSR, only you can decide. However, you can probably pick up a resale at OKW for less than SSR is currently selling for; maybe even buy enough resale points to get that 1BR every year instead of a studio. Just be sure to think it through and buy the resort you really like the best. Good luck with your decision!

Congrats, and WELCOME TO THE DIS!!!

It is your call with which resort...but, OKW points are slightly lower than SSR. Couple that with the cheaper option of buying resale....that may be a better "deal"....plus, I hear the rooms are a LOT bigger...but, I have never stayed there myself...I really hope to someday!!!

There are a LOT of resales on TTS for OKW right now. A couple of weeks ago, it was "slim pickins" over there. If you decide to go this route..take a look at some of them...there are some really good deals!!!

If you stay in a studio, stay at OKW. The studio rooms there are significantly larger.

But let me suggest you shoot for a one bedroom. Like you mentioned yourself these size rooms have the kitchen feature and the washer & dryer right in your room.

Also, you get a nice bathroom with a jacuzzi. The jacuzzi can easily be operated by one person or two, if you get my point.

I have never found that the size of the room matters much with the studios. They have the same features all around so who really cares about a little more floor space. Go for the resort location - not the size of the studio.

What does matter is the convenience to the onsite w/ds - the type and length of the walk to the washer/dryers. For example - I find the walk to the BWV & BCV W/Ds less problematic than the one to the OKWs - because at OKW you have to go outside to get to them - and if it's cold or rainy. Or if it's hot - who wants to drag a bag of laundry down the street in the heat. Yuk. for the BW and the BC it is an inside walk. So I would stay at one of those resorts if I had a studio. I usually take the laundry down in the evening and go out on the BoardWalk.

As far as 1br vs studio - I think it depends on your length of stay, what you plan to do for meals and how you view inconveniences - like the aforementioned w/d scenario. If you don't plan to cook and don't mind the walk to the w/d - take the studio.

In any event - try the studio once and see how you like it. Then you will know for sure.

Since it's only the two of you, if you get a studio, stay at SSR instead of OKW. While OKW's is slightly larger, the 2nd bed doesn't really give you that extra roomto use, and for the two of us it's just in the way. The other DVC resorts have a sofa instead of a 2nd bed, and that really makes it feel more like a 'studio' instead of an oversized hotel room.

If you go for a 1-B/R DEFINITELY go to OKW.....They're better than ANY of the other resorts' 1-B/R units.

DH and I choose to stay in the studios and have longer vacations (or more trips). We love the one bedrooms, but for the two of us can't justify the additional points that would limit the number of nights we can stay. The studios have microwave, toaster, refridgerator, and coffee maker. We keep snacks like fruit, cheese, crackers, cereal, milk, and drinks. When we did stay in a one bedroom we didn't cook so the full kitchen was wasted with us. Our home is BWV and as someone said the laundry room is easily accessed from the villa. When we stayed at OKW we planned to do laundry during our pool time so it was no big deal to go over to another building. Just a few thoughts, HTH.

Hi all,

Thanks very much for all your help, as we will stay two weeks at a time I think we will go for a studio, then we can go once every year.

More Disney time::yes::

There's just 2 of us, also, and we purchased with the full expectation of staying in a studio. We splurged on our first trip and stayed in a 1 BR and discovered that the true meaning of luxury (for us) is space. I get up early ..... he stays up late.... we don't disturb each other and can watch whatever we want on TV. The jacuzzi is a real treat, and the bathroom is HUGE. We pack 1/2 as many clothes and do laundry at night. (notice that I didn't realy say too much about the kitchen) Do we really need all that space-------- no, of course not. But we really enjoy it and feel like we're pampering ourselves. We spend a lot of time relaxing at the resort and feel that we make good use of the room.

After 5 trips in a 1 BR, we're biting the bullet because we're very low on points, and will do a 4 night stay in a studio at VWL in December. This will be the real test to see if we can handle the smaller accomodations.

If you're staying for a longer period of time, you could always plan to start out in a studio and then move to a 1 BR. It would save on points. Good luck deciding!

Here's a vote for the 1 bedroom at OKW. When we go, it is usually just my DH and myself. When we go, we love the luxury of the 1 bedroom. Especially at OKW, the space is just huge. I love having the laundry. At night, I throw a load of laundry in and dry it while we have breakfast in the morning. We pack way less clothes and I love going home with all clean laundry

Love the jacuzzi!! quite luxurious

The separate room is lovely. Last trip I had a lousy migraine. If we had a studio, my huisband would have been trapped trying to be as quiet as possible while I rode it out.

With the 1 BR, I had the bedroom to myself while he could come and go, cook, go out, watch TV or whatever.

We usually go for a week at a time and spend the weekend in a studio, then move to a 1 bedroom for the week. Saves some points for me and lets me try new resorts.

Good luck and whatever you choose will be a great option.princess:
