Hey, now!

Of course, I also pay all my bills.

Hey, now!Jobs with paychecks are a nice side effect of an education but not the reason all of us get one. I have a degree from a top flight university and have a rich and happy life and no intention of getting a paying gig any time in the next 10 years. Some of us got the education as an end in and of itself rather than a means to a different end.
Of course, I also pay all my bills. We'd probably have to rethink our family strategy if circumstances changed in that respect.
Hey all.![]()
I am due to start repaying a loan this month, but money is tight and I am not sure what would happen if I didn't start. I really don't see a time anytime soon when we will be able too, either. I have already used up the forebearance/deferrment time, so when I called they said I have no choice but to pay starting this month.
My question is, "what if I don't?". Could they garnish my husbands wages? Or come after us in some way, or would it just look bad on my or our credit report? Its a Sallie Mae loan, if that makes any difference. TIA
So they will garnish hubby's wages, even though it is MY loan? His name is not on the loan at all.
I did call to see if I could lower it, but they were no help. Even their "lower" option is just too much for the foreseeable future.![]()
OP, I see that you and your family are planning a WDW vacation this fall. Somebody has to say it - if you can afford a vacation, you can afford to pay SOMETHING on your loans.
I am sorry butthat is a very lovely way of thinking but a lot on the woolly side. You have a debt and yet are not willing to do something like earn a living to pay for it!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is not the attitude of an adult, you buy it you pay for it and everything has to be paid for one way or another.
And now I see it has been removed.![]()

I think you quoted the wrong person....
DevilDuckie paid off her (his) loan.
Seriously? The OP has a trip planned in Sept.? Well, there's the answer - cancel the trip. When will people learn that you need to pay your bills and debts before thinking about vacations?! Can't make the mortgage payment, then don't go to Disney. Can't afford that heating bill? Then don't go to Disney. Can't pay the student loan then cancel the Disney trip. I mean, you have 45 days to cancel the trip. At this point the 1st of Sept. is 51 days out which gives you plenty of time to cancel. Kids are going to be disappointed? Sure they will but you can teach them a very important life lesson -- paying what you owe, on time and having a good credit report is more important than a Disney vacation.OP, I see that you and your family are planning a WDW vacation this fall. I'm hoping that you're being sarcastic!!!!!
I was wondering how PP knew about an upcoming trip (cuz when I look at OP, there wasn't a ticker) ......the ticker was removed??![]()

You're totally missing the point. This isn't about making sure you have no bills or debt before you go on vacation. It's about the serious contemplation of WILLFULLY DEFAULTING ON A FEDERAL STUDENT LOAN, one that your tax dollars and mine have funded. I have no qualms about having an "issue" with it. And I think a lot of folks feel the same way that I do.some people are so rude...maybe they cancelled their trip...no one has given them a chance to answer with all the put downs...I hope no one here takes any type of trip while they have ANY kind of bills to pay..
OP if your loans do not have dh name on them then NO they can not take his money and if you file a tax return with just his name they will not take it but they can take anything with YOUR name on it..I would pay anything you could to get it paid off, you could always use your tax return to pay it off.

OP here.....there was never a ticker for an upcoming trip. A while ago we were looking into going, but realized it was not in the budget. So yes, a while ago, we were thinking of going, but scrapped that plan once we realized we could not.
Its really a hoot when you ask a question and get all sorts of judgemental replies.
Thanks for all the sincere advice.![]()
So, people are lying about a ticker? If you changed your plans "awhile ago", why didn't you take the ticker down? Why would you have a ticker up for a non-existant trip? That makes no sense and leads me to believe you're not being honest.
You asked for advice. In doing so, you got the good, the bad and the ugly. The risk you take when asking for advice. Like it or not. If you didn't want to hear the negative, you shouldn't have asked. Of course people are going to judge you b/c you put it out there.
Sadly, those who told you to pay your bills on time were giving you accurate info. If your trip ticker was really a "farce", then you should've posted your original message w/o it in there instead of removing it after you posted.
If you click on a user name you get options including "see all pots by user." One click shows that the OP was getting hotel recommendations in May for an upcoming trip. And you like the nachos at the POP.
