conversation with my 12 year old dd, the cheerleader.

"some of the cheerleaders are so stuck up. I mean, it's great we all made cheerleading, but that doesn't mean we should be nasty to the people who didn't make it."

then she told me that she was distancing herself from a girl she used to like, because that girl was acting stuck up and mean to everyone except the other cheerleaders.

this was her "best friend" last year, btw. dd didn't recognize how mean that girl was to dd last year, but when she saw the girl acting like that to others, she became insensed.

Looks like your doing a fine job raising your DD BR. It nice to see a Child that can think for themselves, and knows whets really important in life.

Good for your DD. You should be very proud that she does not follow the crowd.

It seems some girls cannot help themselves. I think sometimes it is low self esteem or the parents do not spend enough time with them.

I hope your DD stays strong and is a good influence on the rest of the squad.

:)

Last year my DD had a problem with the girls and one boy who didn't make cheerleading. She made it and then was bugged (meanly) for days by the kids who didn't make it. They would say things like "I won't speak to you again because you made it & I didn't" or "You only made it because you're friends with so and so"
All kids that age can be mean whether they are cheerleaders or not.
You should be proud of your DD, she sounds like a smart girl.

Who is surprised?? Not me. I can tell from your posts that you are doing a great job with your girls.
I think that very often around her age, kids tend to change their friends and see thru things that the may not have seen in the past. I remember doing that too.

It sounds like your dd is a very sensitive and caring young woman, BriarRose.
