Thursday Sept 19th I got stuck in the one place no one would ever want to get stuck on Forbidden Journey. Yeah, I was in the first seat right underneath the whomping willow, under the limb that comes down toward you, flat on my back for about 20 minutes or so. I never realized that you are tilted back so far that your knees are higher than your head. It was a strange feeling, like your heart was coming up into your throat. Anyway they cut the lights on and after several announcements for everyone to stay in their seats and the ride would be starting shortly (yeah, like I was going to try to climb out of that seat at that position:rotfl:), after about 20 minutes they finally moved the benches enough that we were sitting upright again, but then the ride almost immediately stopped again and they had us at a weird angle where we were just a few feet past the whomping willow, but it looked like we were facing the back side of a scene instead of the screen for the quidditch field. Anyway, down below the floor was marked with yellow paint saying Area 4 and on the wall was something that looked like an electrical box with a cable running into it. It was marked Umbilical. I'm just curious if anyone would now what it was. Those of us in our bench just thought a cable and box labeled umbilical was funny. We stayed in that position for quite awhile (again with frequent announcements being made to stay in our seats (like #1 we would have even been able to get out of the restraints even if we wanted to and #2 like we were going to try to drop down 15 feet or so from the bench to the floor:rotfl:) I don't think so!:rotfl: Anyway, when they finally got the ride going again they took us through with the lights on, no sound, and the screens blank. It was neat, but odd with the lights on, no sound, seeing the blank screens, dementers and basilik skeleton. When we got off they were giving everyone express passes good for any ride (including FJ). Anyway, I was just wondering about the box and cable that were labeled umbilical right after the whomping willow in section 4.

I have no idea what umbilical would mean but it sure is cool that you got to see behind the scenes so to speak.

"An umbilical cable or umbilical is a cable which supplies required consumables to an apparatus. It is named by analogy with an umbilical cord. An umbilical can for example supply air and power to a pressure suit or hydraulic power, electrical power and fiber optics to a subsea equipment."

I got stuck for a minute WAY too close to the "acromantulas". I'm pretty darned arachophobic to begin with, and that was NOT fun for me.

We got stuck on that ride as well. Fortunately, we were in an upright position. Unfortunately one of the girls in the seats next to us kept screaming "What the F***!!! until the ride started again.

If I remember correctly, FJ is similar to Spiderman and Transformers. Basically the vehicle you ride in goes to certain"rooms" that contain a specific part of the show. In between theres smaller screens and scenes that fool you into thinking that you are moving faster then you reality or doing something that normally isnt possible. That's where the area number comes in. Each zone apparently is being called an area. The umbilical probably provides power to specific parts of the show like the projectors or animated scene where the spiders drop down or the tree moves etc. It could be specific to a particular movement or several. Depends on the power distribution plan.

This would be my worst nightmare! I have it timed so I close my eyes.

We got stuck leaning sideways and facing a bit downwards. NOT a comfortable position in which to be stuck! It was in the chamber of secrets area, though, which is my favorite.... so that was OK. :)

We were stuck for about 20 minutes right in the first "dome" screen after starting to fly. We were tilted forward/down enough to see the floor area of the white screen dome when the lights came on. All I could think was that they wouldn't find us since our car was hidden into the dome. It didn't help that I saw where someone had previously gotten sick on the floor right below us..A LOT! After a bunch of announcements, the ride finally started again and we rode through the remainder with no scenes or movements from any props.....weird to experience.

You know, I've wondered about this... how often do people get sick on this ride? And how often do people sit down in a ride vehicle in which someone has gotten sick.... Ew!? It's so dark on the loading platform - how could they even tell if someone made a mess in the bench!?

Ugh.

Well, it won't stop me from going on the ride... LOL!

We got stuck too. Did you take pictures? Ds & I snapped a ton of pics of our stuck position. I was right by the Dementors - very cold there.

We did luck out one time by someone finding our car keys left in the seat as they loaded. We'd just gone down the exit steps when we realized the keys were gone. I ran back up and saw the team member smiling at me while holding the keys up. Lesson learned....never trust things to stay in an open pocket, no matter how secure they seem!
