First of all let me say that this is in no way asked to cause a debate. If you want to debate this, I would ask that you start another thread. I am simply trying to find out what the "standard" policy, or normal practice is. If there are differences of opinion about what is normal, I would also ask that you respectfully present your thoughts, without attacking anyone else's. :thumbsup2

Secondly let me also say that we were in no way put out, irritated, upset by, etc... what I am asking about. Again, I am simply trying to find out some info about this (not griping about it).

So, this is my question. What is the standard practice of placing strollers on a bus? While staying at the POP last week, we took a bus to one of the parks, and we noticed that as we got on, that a family had one of those really large strollers, and they had it folded up, and on 3 seats next to them. I was just wondering if it is normal to put a stroller on an empty seat (or multiple seats).
Since we were the last ones on the bus, we wouldn't have gotten a seat anyway, so the stroller didn't make us lose a seat or anything, but it did strike me as kind of strange to see a stroller using 3 empty seats, while many people were left standing.
So, is this the normal practice of taking a stroller on the bus? Again, no debate wanted, just looking for some info about this.

I have always seen people fold up the strollers and place them in front of them, not on the seats. That would be the courteous thing to do. And that's what I plan to do.

Oh my...I think I was on your bus!

If not...the same thing happened AGAIN on another bus last week.

Did we speak on that bus? I was in a wheelchair - (talk about a debate....) - but I digress.

No it isn't the norm and I can tell you no way I would stand while a stroller was on the seats. I would ask them to move it and if they didn't I would ask the driver to tell them to move it. And if they didn't and it was on seats by itself ie they were sitting in another set of sets, I would be moving it myself!

That is not normal practice nor is it acceptable on a bus where people are standing. The stroller should be folded up and put in front of them or stuffed in a corner somewhere (if possible.) Nobody should have to give up a seat to a stroller. I would have probably asked them (very sweetly) to move it if I wanted to sit down.

That is rude. I would never put my strollers on a seat. If there was people standing I definitely would have said something to them!

this is not normal or acceptable practice. most people with strollers do not take up seats with he stroller, large or not.

It is also not normal or acceptable to take up a seat with your packages.

it wouldn't bother me so much that it was taking up a seat for me, as hubby and I usually end up standing (even if we get a seat at first), but I
m sure there were little kids or elderly people, or people with bad knees, feet that had endured many surgeries, etc. who could have used those seats.

If I was standing on that bus, I would of knocked their stroller off and sat down. There is no reason for them to use seats they don't need.

I felt my blood boiling when I read the op so I'll just ditto this post and be done with it.

I've been on buses where it's apparently not even ok for your kids to sit on the seat. We were asked by a bus driver on two different occasions to have our kids sit on our laps in order to make room. I didn't mind for my 4 year old, but my 6 year old really should be able to sit in her own seat if she wants.

Maybe it was tired from strolling around all day LOL OK I could resist.

I would say that is not the norm. I would have asked them to remove it so someone can sit. Some people really don't think before they do and some actually don't realize how dumb their move is until someone points it out to them.

When the bus has been pretty much empty. I have seen people use the seats for their strollers, packages and laying down too but that is after everyone else has taken a seat.

That was very rude. Last time we went we had a double stroller, which was quite large folded up. If the bus was fairly empty (we went off season in Nov), and everyone had a seat, we'd put it on the extra seats. WHen the bus was full we'd wedge it in that space between the vertical and horizontal seats and then sit right next to it so we'd be taking up no extra space. Or put it underneath the seats.

Not only is it not normal but it is illegal because the safety of other guests is in jeopardy. If the bus has to stop suddenly the stroller becomes a flying object. All strollers must be folded and stowed in a secure, safe location. I don't know why the driver allowed that to happen...maybe he hadn't noticed if there were a lot of people on board sometimes it blocks the view. At any rate, I would not have taken the situation into my own hands, I would have informed the driver and if he did nothing about it, I would have reported it. And if any of you know me, you know that I am a bus driver, (not at Disney) and am an advocate for bus drivers in most posts. In this case...wrong is wrong.

You wouldn't believe how hard it is to get parents to even fold up the thing. Oh, little Johnny is sleeping and we are not going to wake him up, so the stroller is staying open with him in it. My reply, not on my bus he isn't. Either fold it or wait and see if you can find another bus driver that will let you endanger not only other passengers but Lil Johnny as well.

That's not cool.

Just rude behavior. I don't think I've ever seen that happen on a full bus before.

A question ... when did strollers (even single ones) get to be the size of small cars? Never used one at WDW (waited until DD was three and able to walk ... if she got tired we rested) so have no experience with them there, but when "out and about" before that we used a small "umbrella-type" which was adequate and very easily portable.

You are supposed to fold it up and place it in front of you where you can hold it.It is not acceptable to place it on seats.

we took a large jogging stroller last year - DH and I both sat side by side, held our kids (4&2) and sat the stroller at our feet - holding it out of the way for people to walk and so it wouldn't tip over - we never sat it in a seat

Famous words around here. Unfortunately you have no control over that and about page 8-9 someplace this will be so off topic that it will be about strollers vs. wheelchairs and people who don't know how to drive/steer them or how unfair it is the wheelchairs are loaded first and will be a debate.

As for your question..... that is simply rude. No two ways about it. We no longer have any stroller never mind the huge double we used to have ~ but DH would stand near the back door and hold the stroller down on the stairs area so as not to be in anyone's way. Or if at all possible there were some seats that you could wedge it between the two benches and have it out of the way. Seats for inanimate objects when people are standing are unacceptable. Bags, strollers, coolers, whatever. People should come first.

To the OP - doing what you posted about isn't acceptable. It is in bad form and inconsiderate.

However some strollers that people bring to Disney are absolutely huge, especially many of the jogging style strollers or the ones that hold two children. I've seen families on the buses who don't know where to put the stroller when they fold it up. If they leave it in the isle (holding it or on the floor) people trip over it. If they put it on the seat so people don't trip over it then they take up seats. The bottom line is there really isn't room on the buses for many over the large sized strollers especially when it is a full/packed bus as often occurs during park openings and closings. I'm not sure what the answer is to keep everyone happy.

I am one with a stroller and I fold and stand with it against me. Its not that far of a drive any where you go in Disney.
