Strollers on FW boats and internal buses?

We will be staying at FW (cabin) for the very first time in June, and we bring/use our own strollers when we visit WDW.

1) Will we have to fold/carry the stroller(s) to travel on the boat launch to the MK and back?

2) I assume we will have to fold/carry the stroller(s) on the internal FW buses just as we do on other DTS buses -- right?


And, while I'm here anyway, a third semi-unrelated question...

3) We plan to attend the HDDR right after we check into our cabin (made the reservation yesterday). How should we travel from our cabin to Pioneer Hall?

1. you don't have to fold your stroller for the boat to MK

2. you do have to fold your stroller for the bus

3. from the cabins you can take an internal bus to the Hoop de do Revue

Make sure you go to the Chip and Dale sing a long/campfire and movie. You can bring your own makings for somores and my daughter has also brought hot dogs. Dont't forget the sticks. You can also bring your own drinks, popcorn, etc.
You will love it and have a great time.

You will LOVE the Fort! Now, as far as strollers go, this has been my experience.

1. You do NOT have to fold your stroller to ride the large boats to the MK. If you ride the smaller launches to the CR or WL, you do have to fold them. On occassion, they will also run the smaller boats to the MK, in which case you would have to fold the stroller.

2. You DO have to fold the strollers on the buses.

3. From the cabins to the Settlement area, where Pioneer Hall is located (site of the HDDR), you can ride an internal bus from your cabin loop (likely the Purple bus) to the Settlement depot, which is a short walk from Pioneer Hall.

Yep on folding the strollers for buses, you should be able to keep the stroller open on the large boat that goes directly to MK.

However, the small launch that goes to Contemporary or Wilderness Lodge you would have to fold the stroller.

As far as getting to Pioneer Hall to your cabin, you can walk (about 2/3 of a mile), or take a Purple or Orange Settlement bus to the Pioneer Hall area.

Purple will be the fastest, but Orange will give you a mini-tour of the campground going past the Meadows area and the main pool/bike barn

That doesn't sound bad -- I thought it was further, just looking at the FW maps.

About how far of a walk will we have to where the boats launch for the MK... or, for that matter, to where we can buy supplies and refill our mugs?

(I'd rather walk and avoid the buses altogether, if feasible.)

The boat dock is about 100 - 200 yards from Pioneer Hall, so it is not much further.

The Meadow trading post is aproximately 1/2 mile from the cabin area. That is the larger trading post. Also the main pool, campfire area, and bike barn is near the Meadow trading post.

The main bus stop to the other parks is about 1/3 of a mile from the cabins (could be closer or further depending on loop).

Everyone filled you in on the stroller questions, and from experience, I would like to beg of you (and ALL who travel with strollers)
PLEASE be courteous of others on the bus and don't beat them with the stroller while boarding, traveling and disembarking..

Well, in my experience (and my own age-related crankiness) I haven't really seen anyone get beaten by a stroller who wasn't trying to run over everyone else to be the first on/off the bus in the first place.

I am courteous to a fault (I'm a Southerner born and bred and raised right, can't help myself) so, even though I am struggling to carry a folded monstrosity of a double stroller while wrangling twin toddlers, I always try to find the most out of the way place for me and it, stand and hold it still while travelling, and wait for everyone around me to disembark before trying to do so myself. It goes largely unnoticed/unappreciated, but I don't do it for that in the first place.

So, at the risk of contributing to your hijack of my thread with your unrelated (and misplaced, in my case) grousing, I'll counter with a related request (albeit without the large, loud colored letters): The next time you see someone like me going out of their way to NOT be a burden with their children's stroller(s), take a second to make comment or thank them for the courtesy. A kind word goes a long, long way in these hectic times...

Thank you for your consideration of others,,truely you don't find this "courtesy" often enough. But be assured, that while a lot of people may not take notice,,I do. More than a few times I have made compliment to folk while traveling, about how they handled a particular circumstance ,be it strollers, children,,etc. And have even been know to help, (all tho I admit, be it rare).
I too had a child once , went thru the whole child rearing experience,,so I do know what its like , strollers and all.

Didn't mean to high jack your thread , I just thought that after having sufficiently been answered I would add to the thread.
I didn't realize that you wanted the thread to continue on with more reassurance of the correct answers.

Most people are careful with their strollers, but having ridden a few, just a few, WDW buses in my lifetime, I do see more people banging knees and slamming strollers around than I should.
Some of it is due to the size of strollers. Some of the double strollers are as big as a Smart Car. And then when they're told that they have to take the sleeping child out and fold it, I'd be dead if looks could kill. Again its the minority that spoil it for rest.
So parents, please use the smallest stroller you can, have it folded by the time the bus pulls up, and move away from the doors and the bus when you get off.

Exactly what we've always done.

However, thanks to this thread, for our upcoming trip I'll be bringing our giant Graco double-"Cadillac" model for the twins...


No, not in some misguided reaction to anything posted above. Not my style. The kind folks who replied on-topic early in the thread have now informed me that the walks we will be making are all less than a mile, so we will be eschewing the bus system altogether and, thus, no need to fold/carry the stroller at all (except into our own vehicle, which we are used to doing).

I had already decided, based upon reading/researching the topic, that we would be better off taking our own vehicle from the cabin to the other parks and back. The only times I anticipated needing the buses at all were the internal buses, to and from the MK boat launch and the Trading Post. It now sounds like those are all within walking distance, so it will be easier for us (and, apparently, the bus-riders) to bypass the internal FW buses altogether and just stroll where we are going.

(Truth be told, as long as there is enough room in the Family Truckster I'll probably bring along the compact double umbrella stroller we've always brought/used at WDW in the past, just in case we HAVE to use a bus while we are there.)

It's a very short walk from the meadows to the settlement. Generally when I head into the fort, the Meadows is my first stop, then I walk the rest.

Cabins all depends on where you are at on the loop. Further in, the closer you will be to the center of the fort. And if you're in 2800 (i think that's the furthest north cabin loop), you'll be a five minute walk to the Meadows.

I don't know how often you come to disney... but there's people to ruin any one's day based on their ignorance of others around them. Be it the line holder for 20 people to jump in front of you as you're about to see a character, the big stroller that parents feel takes presidence over people, the parents that think thier child is more important than your family that's been sitting on the parade sideline for 30mins and want you to allow their child to sit in front of you, the person that believes their butt isn't meant to sit on a toilet seat (especially when there's a line out the door for the restroom) and you either have to take the next stall or be your own maid, the person that rents a wide wheelchair to be used as a stroller for their two kids and expects wheelchair priveledges.

It's a lot easier to think of horror stories than good stories cause the good happens so few and far between.

BTW, good luck with the twins... sounds like a handful.
