Stroller to push around stuff

What do all you people need all day? Geez! If my kids are thirsy, they can drink from a water fountain or get a cup of ice water at almost any counter. If we are hungry, we eat lunch or get a snack. If we need to go to the bathroom, we use the free ones in the park - and their toilet paper, and their soap and their paper towels. We go to DTD one half day to souvenir shop. I never spend my time in parks shopping.

I see people walk in the parks with what I consider luggage. Major backpacks or mini duffle bags full of :confused3. I hiked the Grand Canyon with less than what they bring for a day at an amusement park.

We are a family of 4 and one is a 2 year old. I will go in with nothing less than a small sling bag that I can carry across my chest.

This made me smile, because when I suggested people could drink from water fountains, I was accused of torturing my kids. :rotfl2:

I think he is crazy!

It is so wonderful to be stroller free. I barely could stand them when my kids were little and as soon as they hit 4 ish we quit bringing them.

I agree with the poster who said what the heck do you bring? Why do you even need a big back pack? If anything a small one would work and it would be very light holding the jackets and camera, possible a drink or 2 and exactly how heavy is a couple granola bars or packages of crackers? I refuse to carry excess drinks around, if an extra $50 I could possibly spend on drinks in a week would break me- I probably shouldn't be going.

Always remember you are going to Disney not a third world country you really don't need that much. and of course the number 1 rule and your family is old enough is
If you want to bring it YOU carry it.

I'm on this side. I hate having to bring a lot. When my kids were little, I always felt like a pack mule. I had to put my foot down several times and tell them-and my husband-to carry their own stuff.

When they realized they had to carry their own hats, water, snacks, etc., they realized that they really didn't need them that much. :cool1:

I try to take only my phone-it has a satisfactory camera, so I don't need a separate one-AMEX card, hotel key card, tiny sun lotion bottle that I replenish at the end of the day...and that's about it!

I feel like being in Disney World and having to eat crackers or granola bars is horrible! :rotfl: I would have a tantrum and demand a Dole float, or an ice cream. Crackers?? Really?? :scared1: They're for hiking, not Disney!! :lmao:

And yes, we go all day and don't buy souvenirs. We don't usually re3turn to our room during the day, either.

I guess what I can't understand about this thread, and why I keep coming back to it, is why people keep posting like this (often with a bit of attitude to go along with it)...

I drink from the bubbler or go get a cup of water from the CM, there's absolutely no need for YOU to bring drinks in

MY kids have to carry their own stuff, I'm not their pack mule, there's no reason YOUR kids shouldn't do the same

I don't buy souvenirs, who needs souvenirs???? YOU don't need souvenirs

WE don't carry anything and "we" stay all day too so if I can do it, YOU can too

WE aren't so poor that we have to worry about spending 100 bucks on water/snacks, and if YOU are, YOU shouldn't be going on vacation

Don't they get it? There is no need to justify not using one. No one is telling anyone who doesn't feel the need or desire for a stroller that they SHOULD use one. Don't want to? Feel liberated without one? Great! YOU make your decisions. Why can't you just please leave others free to make their own.

Some people actually "like" their stuff. And their stroller :)

Relax. I'm just relating our method of tourning. I'm not trying to do anything but say why I don't like to carry things, and what we do that makes it unnecessary.

I think the original poster's idea is fine, and if it works for them, great. Just not for us. What's the big deal about posting what we do, that is different? Can't we discuss?

:confused3

Edited to add, who is saying all those accusatory things like, "YOU don't need souvenirs"?? I don't see those posts.

I guess I am in the camp that if there are only 3 of you and you need a stroller to haul all of your stuff then you are taking way too much.

Rent a locker if you need snacks and stuff or buy snacks there. I prefer buying Disney snacks over a crushed granola bar that has been sitting at the bottom of my bag.

I'm off to work now, but I'm going to have to read this thread much more closely, while I'm at work, to see who is making such inflammatory accusations. Hope I can this afternoon!

We're going in January with our 5 y/o, I could never imagine bringing a stroller. He hasn't had one since he was 3. There are lockers to rent if we need one. We don't bring water bottles or snacks. My camera has a strap and that's all we'll bring. I've never understood all the stuff people bring into the parks. But since they're not asking me to carry it, I don't really care.

So to answer the OP, yes I think he's crazy.

Kids ages 5-11 are more than capable if carrying their own stuff. You don't need to be the family's pack mule, and then wonder how others carry so little.

You think that THAT is an inflammatory comment? :confused3 I really think that you are mistaking use of the rhetorical "you" for a personal rebuke.

Generally speaking, when someone complains here about not wanting to carry heavy items in the park, it is pretty standard for others to offer ideas for how to best lighten the load. You asked about what those who don't use some sort of "wheelbarrow" do about carrying souvenirs, water, snacks, jackets, etc., and people told you what they do about it. No attack was intended.

It may have not been 'inflammatory but it most certainly had a zing to it. It was posted after quoting my post so yes I believe it is safe to assume it was directed to me. Telling me that "I don't need to be a pack mule for my family" was fine but then deciding to finish with "and then wonder how others manage to carry so little"? That was rude and served no purpose.

It's really all a matter of how you say what you say. We're all adults here. We know that. Most people who post on these kinds of threads have been on the DIS for a long time. They know exactly what they are doing.

Re: the complaining......I don't recall anyone 'complaining'. Certainly not me (I like having a stroller at WDW and specifically said I wasn't looking forward to the day when we'd have to give it up). The OP asked if her husband was crazy for wanting to use a stroller to carry stuff. Some said yes, others said no. No one complained. And while yes I did ask someone how they got by with so little, I just asked out of curiousity AND I asked nicely, not snidely (is that even a word :) ) so I don't expect snide little comments in return.

ETA: OOOOOOOPS!!!!! you know what, you are kind of right about this thread being fairly neutral and non-judgemental (with the exception of the last comment about being a pack mule :) ). I have been in and out of both this thread and the other stroller related thread and started to confuse the two. My apologies for mixing them up. It's the other one that has me going bananas.:flower3:

Peace to all

As to the original question... Yes, there are people who bring a stroller to haul stuff around. I know someone whose kids are over 10 yrs old, they bring a stroller to haul a cooler/snacks for their kid who has allergies, as well as to carry whatever else they need. They stay off property.

I would never RENT one for this purpose, but if you have a cheap one at home, bring it! Obviously your husband wants to bring one--but he has to be the one to push it/find it after all the rides. You may want the stroller for your son in Epcot, depending on how close to 6 he is when you travel--that's the only park that he 'might' need it.

We turned strollerless as of last November. We had a stroller through the trip where my youngest turned 6. We're enjoying not having to find and move the stroller after each ride. I do miss having it for storage though, especially all those water bottles. I need to pack more wisely now to fit everything into a normal size backpack. We never had anyone take anything from our stroller either--other than some birds going after snacks that were left out on the kids' tray...

I vote crazy. If he brings home unused most of the snacks and water he has carried around all day, he doesn't need to bring them. You can buy snacks and water with the money you'll save from not renting a stroller.

It is so much easier to navigate the parks without pushing a stroller, and carrying a smaller bag is very possible.

Peace to all

Yes, it was directed at you. This thread is the second one I've seen this week where you have wondered how people carry so little the parks.

Have your kids carry their own stuff. Problem solved.

As for the OP, I really am shaking my head at a grown man needing a stroller because a backpack was too much for him to carry. If he can't carry a simple thing like a backpack all day, then he should reevaluate what he carries.

What in the world are people putting in these backpacks??:confused3

DH & the kids don't carry a thing except their cell phones in their pockets.

I carry our:
Pocket-sized Handi-wipes
list of ADR confirmation #s
chapstick & camera (pocket)
my cell phone (other pocket)
Room key (on my lanyard)

Carrying water & snacks? Out of the question. We stop & get something in the park.

I couldn't imagine hauling a stroller just to haul my stuff but my dh recently went to BG with our oldest dd and said he actually missed having the stroller. We have three children and this is what we bring to WDW:

Spare clothes for ds3
Wipes for lots of reasons
Snacks (while I could eat mickey bars all day, it's probably not a good idea)
Water bottles

That's just what we keep in the stroller. Then we haul cameras and cell phones in fanny packs and backpacks. We look like pack mules!

Unsoliciited advice with a just hint of snotty and rude. I rest my case.

And since reading comprehension seems to be a bit of a challenge for some, I never once said it was a PROBLEM for me. I bring the stuff I bring because I want to bring it and, if I enjoy the ease and convienence of not having to carry what 'belongs' to me, why then should I force my kids (ages 5,7,9 and 10 last we went) to carry what 'belongs' to them?

I LIKE my stroller and am not looking forward to the day when my youngest is at the age that I'll have to give it up :)

Oh yeah, I already said that;)

Ok, let's talk "reading comprehension" now. I posted what works for us. Why I hate carrying things, and how I solved my problem. No judgments, just my method of coping and why I do it that way.

You quoted me, and said "people keep posting like this", with a "bit of attitude". Then you followed with a string of very inflammatory statements, that I never said, or anyone else on this thread. Did I say anything like: " WE don't carry anything and "we" stay all day too so if I can do it, YOU can too"?

By quoting me and then saying "people keep posting like this (often with a bit of attitude to go along with it)...", you seem to be saying that I specifically have an "attitude"!

You apparently had this thread confused with another and mixed up your replies. I did see your apology, but it's ironic that now you want to criticize people's lack of "reading comprehension".

I just wanted to add that I'd have no problem accepting your apology, except you quoted my post as an example of bad "attitude".

And if the original poster's husband wants to lug around 50 pounds of snacks, etc., that's fine with me! I still would never rent a stroller, though.

I wouldn't bring a stroller just for your stuff. It's much easier not having a stroller along.

I quoted one particular person who authored and admitted to a smart aleck snotty comment directed towards me.....that's whose reading comprehension I was specifically referring to. She continued to insist that I had some 'problem' with having to carry stuff despite the fact that I more than once stated I never had a 'problem'. That seems like a reading comprehension problem to me:confused3

And I did apologize for mixing up the threads so I don't know what else you would like me to do (and the other thread had plenty of attitude, believe me)

It wasn't you. Yes I did quote you but it was just a jumping off point, I wasn't so much accusing YOU of the bad attitude. I again apologize for the misunderstanding.

Play on :)

ETA: I now see the error of my ways LOL The misunderstanding resulted when I said "when people post things like this (sometimes with a bit of attitude to go along with it)". .... Please understand that when I said that I meant that as a preface to the list that followed, not as a slam on your post. If you go back and read it again, now knowing my intent, perhaps you'll see what I mean. I AM sorry but the rudeness and the holier-than-thou stuff that is prevalent across these boards is a hot button for me. Much more so than how other people choose live their lives. Sometimes I do lose my head.

But I'm big enough to apologize when I'm wrong ;)

Thanks.

Because I haven't read the other thread, I had no idea what you were talking about.
