Stroller Suggestions for Older Child- HELP!

We bought a Maclaren techo XLR and love it! It holds up to 65 pounds and our tall daughter. It reclines and has a huge sun shade that unzips and has a suncreen that comes out and almost covers our daughter. It also has extendable handles so there is no problem with being tall and pushing it. We used it at DL until our daughter was 7...people can say what they will but when it comes to being able to get through crowds and give our daughter a rest it was worth every penny and then some...PLUS at night she would fall asleep and my husband and I had 'our' time walking around and shopping while she slept. Heck I wish sometimes I had a stroller for the parks when I get tired. When our daughter wanted to walk we'd just park it and go back to it later. I've also heard really good things about the baby jogger and BOB...good luck with your choice, I doubt you can make a bad one, they are all great strollers and you will love having one!

We have this jogger in a double - but the singles are very nice, too. It is very easy to maneuver, has a swivel front wheel and folds up easily. My 5.5 yr old still fits in just fine - but our now 8 yr old - who still likes to ride sometimes - is spilling out of it. We take off the front bar when we go to DLR so the kids don't have to hop over the bar.

We have had ours for 5 years and it is still in great shape, it still drives great and we love it.

Brady'sMom- thanks for the link! I've seen these and wondered...but after looking at the weight limit, which is 50lbs, I just don't think it will last long and grow with my son.

Too bad...would have been nice to find a great stroller for this price!:thumbsup2

Couldn't agree more! My not quite 5 year old daughter is 48 inches and 40 lbs and we have a Phil & Ted as well...I LOVE THIS STROLLER. We have the double and she can even fit on the bottom comfortably, which amazes me. When she is on top, she can close the canopy wit no problem.

Ok! Add the Phil and Ted to my list of possible strollers!;)

OP- I am not sure where in washington state you are, but if you are anywhere around Tacoma, I know the Tacoma REI store has one or two BOB strollers in stock for you to test drive around the store.

Thanks Cruise!

I'm nowhere NEAR Tacoma! However, I do have an REI store near me so will be calling this AM to find out if they have both the BOB and the Baby Jogger.

I did look online at REI and they have both the Bob and Baby Jogger online so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that my local store will have at least one of each in the store. I've realized that I MUST have my son physically try both out to see where he sits in the seat and his long legs land. :thumbsup2

I researched the Phil & Ted based upon a PP who loves hers, but the weight limits on these are much less. Seems to be around 55lbs for a single, which wouldn't really work- so the Phil & Ted is out.

I'm leaning more towards the Baby Jogger City Elite only because the weight limit is 75lbs and the seat width is 26" vs 70lbs and 23" for the BOB. Plus I read that the Baby Jogger has a handle bar that extends. Which would be great for my 6'2" DH and my 5'2" self! However, I'm a bit concerned about the foot rest on the Baby Jogger, seems to me that the foot rest on the BOB is more roomier??:confused3

Another idea for you.

I noticed that your son is only 40 pounds now and so I would suggest considering a Maclaren MX3.

Here is a link for one that is new, in box, for only $160, free shipping.

I have purchased from this seller and the product was exactly as listed. I was very happy with the stroller, and I am not affiliated with them in any way.

The stroller does not have the tippy problem that most of their other strollers have. (I own a Techno XLR and the tippy thing really bugs me but I LOVE everything else about the stroller).

The weight limit would be good for another fifteen pounds for your child, and that should give you several more years of use. If you needed a daily stroller or had a special needs child that might need the stroller far more often for a longer period of time I might go with the BOB, but this Mac is very nice and would meet your needs for several more years at a fraction of the price, and since the Mac's keep their value, you could turn around and sell this, if and when the time comes, for almost as much as you paid for it.

As to kids in strollers, we have a young family member with a brain tumor. She gets tired easily and sometimes has vertigo. The stroller allows the family to keep her involved in things she loves. A few people have given us looks or made snarky comments, we just smile and tell them that God loves them.

Arguing with idiots doesn't make them wiser, often makes them happy, and sometimes makes you look like one of them.
