Stroller Suggestions for Older Child- HELP!

I bought my Baby Jogger Classic through Babies R Us dot com. They didn't sell them at our store, but I knew I could return it there if something was wrong with it or if I didn't like it. I never found a store in our area that had one in stock (although you probably can find a City Mini one in a store and get a little bit of an idea). I just took a leap of faith and ordered one. SO GLAD I DID! I have no complaints. We previously used a Mac Triumph, and although he was still within the weight limit, his legs were too long.

Here is a picture of my son in the Baby Jogger. He was six in this picture and right around 50 lbs and 50 inches long. Sorry it's a little dark. HTH!

I don't see the pic??:confused3

I looked online at Babies R Us and they don't have ANY single Baby Jogger City Elites for sale.

I think I've narrowed it down to the BOB and Baby Jogger City Elite. Which is better? And which style BOB is best for an older child? It appears the weight capacity is the same but I'm not sure on overall length. DS carries all his height in his long legs and they too were sticking over the front of his Mac Quest.

I had to take a leap of faith buying our city mini too because none of the strollers i was interested in were at any of the stores around here. I was trying to buy it at either babies r us or target (with the same idea of being able to return it if necessary). But they didnt' have it so i finally had to buy it from another online baby/stroller store (sorry, forgot which one). Returning it would have been a hassle so I'm glad i liked the stroller so much.

I would suggest looking at all the online stores and try to find the most friendly return policy you can.

Another idea would be to rent a stroller from an outside company - not disney. That way you would have it for the walk to and from the parks. I know i've heard a couple names of baby equipment rental places but I don't remember what they are. Not sure what strollers they have available but it might be worth a try.

Here are a few pics of her sitting in her BOB.

We don't usually hang anything off the handles so I am not sure on that, but we fill the bottown usually with a change of clothes a few water bottles, snacks and then there is room for a few bags if we buy gifts. Also if I am tired of carrying my backpack I have been know to shove it down there if there is nothing else there.

I can take new pics tonight of my daughter in her bob to give you a good idea of how much the canopy covers.

Our Bob has been worth EVERY penny. We only use it when we go to Disneyland or other theme parks because my daughter decides that she would like to walk at our local zoo and such. But I am with you about the previous poster....ya I can deal with an exhausted kid, but why should I have to. My daughter is happier if she can ride for a short period of time plus when she is not in it she knows that she has to hold on to the side of it and then the backpack gets to ride for awhile. =)

As for where they are sold. I had to go to a specialty store to get ours. But on the BOB website they have a link to all participating stores that sell Bob strollers. I put in washington state and it seems like they have a lot of places that sell them. Hopefully one is near you.

So to go on and on. But if you have any other questions or would like some new pics let me know. =)

Your daughter sounds like she's about my son's size. How far do her feet reach? How much stuff can the stroller handle without tipping over??

I had a Maclaren Quest for his 1st trip and while it worked great, I found it to be too lightweight. With a few things in the basket and a backpack hanging from the handles- everytime he got out of the stroller it wanted to tip backwards. And I didn't even think it was that "loaded down" with stuff!

The other downside was the canopy, but I bought a RayShade and loved it! Plus his feet would dangle over the front- which is why I've since sold it. I just felt like he was stuffed in there and that was a almost 2 years ago.

I've heard alot about the Bob's but just not sure if it's worth spending the money (even used from craigslist) for something that we will probably only use for another 2 years max. Do you think you will still be using this stroller for your daughter when she's older??

I would really like to "test drive" one- any thoughts on where they are sold? I've tried Toys R Us/Baby's R Us and they didn't have them.:confused3

Also- does anyone know where I could find the Baby Jogger City Elite? I looked at the website as someone else suggested and this stroller sounds awesome! The others don't have a high enough weight capacity, so I'm only interested in the City Elite but would like to have my son actually sit in it before I consider buying.

Thoughts on both??

Thanks for the pics!

If you don't mind me asking....how comfortable is she in there? She looks a little squished.:confused3 Can she rest comfortably, recline/lay back- that sort of thing?

I had hoped that this next stroller we buy would be our last and would be big enough to fit my son now and in a year or 2.

When you put stuff in the bottom basket, does it ever try and tip backwards?? That was my main issue with the Maclaren, it was just too lightweight and with just a backpack or small cooler- that thing would tip every single time!

I'm having a very difficult time deciding between the Baby Jogger City Elite and the Bob. Which style Bob do you have?

Also, does anyone else have any thoughts on these 2 strollers? How easily do they fold down, do they want to tip backwards, can your older child fit comfortably??

I know, I know...lots of questions. TIA everyone for the advice!:goodvibes

Okay, so as I mentioned before, I don't have the city elite but i have the city mini. I believe they fold the same way though and it is SO easy. There is a strap that says "pull" in the seat where the bottom of the seat meets the back of the seat. All you do is pull and lift the stroller up and it's folded. The strap also snaps to the frame on both sides so if you had those snapped you would have to undo those first. Also, we hang our backpack off the back of our stroller and haven't had a problem with it tipping. Again, it's a different stroller but ours is lighter than the city elite.

Also, when I was researching strollers a few years ago, i did a google search for reviews. So i would put in "baby jogger city elite review", for example, and there were actually several video reviews where people would show how the different strollers folded, etc. Also, you could look at the baby bargains website forum if you haven't already. I got the book before DS was born and have done some searches on their forums. There's a whole section on strollers where you could either post your question or you could do a search.

Hope that helps!

Your right she does look squished. Funny. But I swear she doesn't feel squished. She just has to cross her legs. She can nap in it because the back lays all the way down.

You probably should find a distributor so that you can try it out. I really wanted to get baby jogger but when we went and tried it out DD didn't fit. There just wasn't enough foot room for her to even cross her legs. The Bob offered more leg room for her.

We have the Bob Revolution 12" AW Stroller.

=)

We have NEVER had a problem with tipping. DD will get in and out with no problem and it doesn't even tip one way or the other.

Thank You!

I'm going to do some online searches for this stroller! I really think I need to have my son sit in both so see what would work better as far as overall room.

Is the Bob as easy to fold as the Baby Jogger?

LavendarPeach- thanks for the info, I will try and find some online vidoes for both strollers to better compare. I honestly can't decide between the 2, they both sound great and exactly what I'm looking for.

LOVE this thread! My 5 year old is 48 inches and 50 lbs. We've been getting by with a peg perego atlantico, but his head is def over the canopy. I've been hoping to find something he could ride in for a while longer without getting a special needs stroller. I don't care if he wants to ride in a stroller until he's 10! Our trips are so much more pleasant when he has a spot to rest when he pleases. And when you think about their little legs -- they have to take two steps for every one of ours -- no wonder some of them run out of steam! (not to mention I love to be able to put all our stuff in it!)

cccdisney, I didn't see your pic. Could you try again? I'd love to see how these really tall kids are fitting in the strollers.

And for momtoatink, did you say you could still close the canopy? Does her head flop over the top of the seat back though?

TIA! :thumbsup2

so you guys really can't see my pic? :confused3 I'm so computer challenged with these things!! How come I can see it but you guys can't?? :confused3

I'll try again. Maybe I'll get my 10 yr old son to help!

My daughter is six and is 52 inches and 53 pounds--she's tall and slender. At any rate, she still fits in our Phil & Ted single stroller. It's an expensive stroller, but I love it.

I had this same problem when we went to WDW 2 years ago. My DD was 7. We ended up buying a MacLaren Volo and loved it. It was lightweight, so when we'd stop for a ride, I'd have to swing the backpack off the handbars and into the seat, but it was so portable and easy to use, we didn't care. Not sure if your son will sleep at all, ours was too old, so the reclining wasn't an issue. It did recline, just not flat. The basket was plenty big enough, but we do pack light.

And the price was right - I'm pretty sure it was around $100. Good luck in your hunt!

Tracy

I agree with the BOB.. We have the double bob.. we got if for our trip last august. .I wish I had gotten one for my dd years ago... I love it.. we taking it hiking and everywere!!

cccdisney- thanks for the pic! I can see it now!!:thumbsup2

Your son looks like he fits great in the Baby Jogger....aahhh...now I REALLY can't decide!

Unfortunately I was out all day today and just didn't have any time to search for retailers in my area. But it's on my "to-do" list and now I will add the Phil and Ted stroller to the list. I've heard a bit about these but honestly- much more reviews about the Baby Jogger and the Bob.

cccdisney-which Baby Jogger do you have? I can't remember....

And I agree with the PP- if my kid wants to (and will) ride in a stroller until he's 10, then I say go for it! It just makes travel SO much easier for all involved- who cares what those snarky, judgemental parents say!:cool1:

Tracy- we had a Mac Quest and liked it. It reclined and my son did nap in it but it was so lightweight and honestly the handles were too low for DH. So unfortunately I ended up pushing DS all over the magic kingdom! However he's much to big for it now so I sold it- they are great strollers though, you're lucky your 7 yr old still fits in it!;)

Our 3 year last Oct was 41 inches tall and 37 lbs, her brother is like 37 incles tall and who knows how much weight at 22 months. So when we go in June we will once again, use our peg pergo aria - we have used this for 2 DL trips and 1 WDW trip - it was great there because we had to take the bus and its only 14 lbs.

We did have to purchase a new storage basket for the bottom - to much stuff wore it down and it was dragging on the ground. But worth the money for our family.

Our goal is 3 trips to disney (DL&WDW) over the next 2 years before she starts school - this stroller will be with us until it breaks down its been GREAT.
I would consider another stroller too, as they get older. I really dont care how old they are as long as I can push and they can sit or nap - all is good - dont care what other folks say its my family my trip so zip it....

cccdisney- thanks for the pic! I can see it now!!:thumbsup2

I'm glad you could finally see it! :cool1:

I have the City Classic, but they have replaced it with the City Elite. From what I understand they are the same stroller but they changed the shape of the canopy a bit and the colors. (btw - I love the HUGE canopy!)

Here is a link of the one I purchased from Babies R Us
http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3382657

Here is the City Elite (great price too!)
http://www.albeebaby.com/baby-jogger-city-elite-single-stroller-in-black-black.html

It looks like Babies R Us doesn't carry the City Elite. :confused3

Hope that helps! :)

hey! I just had a crazy/weird question....can you remove the middle dividing section for a double stroller??

Doubles have a higher weight capacity, so I wonder if anyone has ever thought to buy a double stroller and take out the middle dividing section? Can this even be done??

I think I'm driving myself crazy with all this stroller business!!

Couldn't agree more! My not quite 5 year old daughter is 48 inches and 40 lbs and we have a Phil & Ted as well...I LOVE THIS STROLLER. We have the double and she can even fit on the bottom comfortably, which amazes me. When she is on top, she can close the canopy wit no problem.
