We are bringing our 3 yr. old GS for his first trip to WDW, and we were thinking of bringing a stroller. But the thoughts of cramming it onto the monorail don't appeal to me.

How much to rent a stroller for the day in the parks???

Thanks...2 weeks to blastoff...can't wait !!!

I think it's around $10 - don't quote me on that - I'm pretty sure the double ones are $15, so I'm guessing. But be certain you don't want your own first. If you're flying, I can understand, but if you're driving, you might want to re-think it. We take ours everytime, took two one year. Yes, it's inconvenient getting on and off busses and the monorail, BUT we sure are glad we've got it when we're standing in that long line to get on the monorail at night when the kids are exhausted and don't want to walk. We're just as tired and sure don't want to be carrying them. And if you're staying at the resorts, some of them have a long walk to the bus stops. Plus, it comes in handy for loading and unloading luggage as well. :)

Just re-checked - the single ones are $8 plus $1 deposit, and the double ones are $15 plus $1 deposit.

The other reason I dislike renting them is that it's hard to find yours when you come out of a ride since they all look alike. You can tie a balloon onto or something to help you find it though if you do decide to rent.

You can bring a lightweight, inexpensive umbrella stroller. It may depend on the 3 yo, but my 3 yo needs a place to sit at the airport, when we're leaving the park and he's really tired, and at unexpected moments when's he's hit with toddleritis. If you're not using the stroller, you can fold an umbrella up and easily stick it in a bag. Some even come with over the shoulder straps. Another problem with the rentals is people "take" them. I'm not sure if they think yours is theirs or since it's a rental it doesn't matter, but we had this happen twice at Epcot. We never had this problem in any parks with our own stroller.

I agree with all of the above posters. Rental is $8 for single and $15 for double with a disney dollar deposit on return. The first couple of trips I brought my own because there was no way to control the youngest trying to make our connection in the airport. Much easier to put her in the stroller and make the dash for the gate.

Also, if your room is a distance from the bus stop it can be a long (to a toddler) walk to catch the bus or monorail.

I have a 4 year old and was planning on renting a stroller, but the more I read, the more I may change my mind. We are not staying in a Disney resort. How far away is the parking lot and is there transportation to the parking lot if it's far from the main entrance?

There are trams that will take you to the main entrance. A 4 year old would be fine in the morning walking until you got in the parks - you're not talking too far of a distance. The problem with us has always been at night. "My legs hurt!" "Daddy, carry me!" They are tired, and it's hard to give up that stroller they've been sitting in all day to go stand in a long line to get on the monorail or wait for the tram to come pick you up. It's kind of a toss-up. We stay on-site, and you usually are talking a big walking distance from the parking lot to the hotel room, so I like having my own. We don't have to make any mad dashes to the tram as we ride the buses to the parks. But off-site, you're usually going to be able to park closer to your room. And it's possible right when you come out of the park the tram may be just about to leave, and you'll be making a mad dash to get everything out of the stroller so you can make that particular tram. Just kinda gotta weigh your options. Is it going to be a pain in the airport? Are you willing to put up with a little bit of inconvenience getting in and out of the parks?

We took an umbrella stroller on one trip with my DD was 3. It worked great as it folded up quickly, but it had no storage capacity. We now like to carry a small cooler, and I put my backpack in the stroller instead of carrying it. But if you're not going to have much to carry around the park, I would go that route. They're cheap, easy to pick yours out in the crowd, and you won't have the hassle of folding and unfolding a bulky stroller.

In the parks, Stroller rental is $7 per day, with a $1 deposit that will be refunded by a Disney Dollar upon return of the stroller.

At Downtown Disney, the rental is still $7, but since DTD isn't a gated park, the deposit is $5, which will be refunded upon return.

The same is true of wheelchair rentals.

If you leave one park, hold onto your receipt and/or pink card so you won't have to pay again in the next park, as long as it is the same day. If you are leaving a park and going to DTD, make sure to get your deposit back from the park, since the deposits are not the same. You won't have to pay for the stroller rental at DTD, but will still have to put the $5 deposit down.

Hope this helps!

Take your own stroller. You have it for the whole trip, not just for the parks. You don't have to turn it in and carry a sleeping child (dead weight). Most of the time we could just wheel the stroller right onto the monorail or ferry boat. Folding for buses wasn't a big deal, unless she was asleep, and then again I'd rather have the stroller than not. Also, you know where the stroller has been and who has been in it. If someone has had an accident (oops!), you know about it. (although I am sure they keep the strollers as clean as possible)

Have a wonderful trip!
