Stroller Rental-Insurance?

Did you or didn't you?
I am renting through Orlando Stroller for our trip next month. I didn't get the insurance. In these situations I usually don't. On my receipt in big letters it says "NO INSURANCE". That's a little ominous.
Any valid worries about theft in the parks?

I haven't been to Disney with kids, but we are taking our first trip next month with my twin boys. We rented a stroller thru kingdom strollers and opted for the insurance. Yeah, it was an extra $25, but in the scheme of a very expensive vacation it didn't seem like much for the peace of mind if something happens to it. A major reason we didn't want to bring our own stroller with us was because it was expensive and I don't want to have to worry about it being stolen, or mistaken for someone else's or otherwise disappear. Not to mention wrecked by the airlines... For me, I am not in the market for buying a new stroller, so I didn't want to have to replace mine, nor do I want to replace theirs. So for $25 that seems like it is worth it to me.

We've rented strollers numerous times, and have always opted to get the insurance. The peace of mind it gives is well worth the $25.

While Disney is a mostly safe place, there are items that are (sometimes) accidentally claimed by others....and unfortunately still plenty of opportunists out there that will take advantage of people who have their guard down while on vacation. If you search these boards long enough you'll come across stories of thefts, including strollers.

Considering the amount of time that we leave strollers un-attended in the parks, the nominal fee to protect it, get a replacement if needed, and not have to think about it all, is worth the $ for us.

Be sure to look into the replacement cost, if something were to happen to it. This may (or may not) influence your decision.

I rented from Orlando Strollers recently ( great experience btw!) and asked some questions regarding theft. Basically I was told it isn't much of a problem, so I declined the insurance too.

I took the insurance so I could breathe easier if it got stolen. Otherwise I'd have been a wreck. But after a week of parking it with a thousand other strollers, I could see it wasn't necessary. Sometimes we even forgot it and went back hours later and it was always there.

Stroller theft may not be "much of a problem", but it is enough of a problem to cause me to worry. I've read 4 stories here on the DIS boards about strollers being stolen, that's 4 stories among what percent of Disney visitors? Yeah, those numbers show more of a problem than my nerves care for. Besides, the insurance doesn't cover against just theft. It also covers against damage. Let's face it, a rented stroller is a rental item that possibly gets abused, by a lot of different people. You never know when the darn thing might decide to start spewing bolts, or have a catastrophic meltdown of it's integrity. If you have insurance, you call the rental place, and they bring you a new rental and take the hunk of junk away. If you don't have the insurance, they charge you the price of the stroller, which can be over $400 depending on the model. Personally, the $25 is worth the piece of mind.

Each to his own, but using the stroller in the manner intended shouldn't cause bolts to start spewing out and if they did, I'd assume the rental company would send a replacement at no cost (same as if I rented a car and there was a mechanical failure). When I rented from Orlando Stoller I was told that if a wheel might fall off they would have a replacement to me within a couple of hours (no mention of charging me the cost of entire stroller either). There is a note in the literature about not driving it down the trolley tracks rut on Main Street as that could cause wheel problems.

As far as theft, most are probably being resold for cash, which makes the nice, new-looking expensive brands a desirable target. I doubt that an easily identifiable, very used rental stroller is going to be swiped. And the rental company itself told me this is not much of a problem--- mostly it is an issue of the renter itself not returning the stroller or a mix-up at Bell Sevices (which is eventually straightened out and the stroller gets found again).

Ymmv, but basically it's akin to buying add'l insurance with a car rental...peace of mind maybe, but not necessarily a good financial decision when risk vs cost is weighed.

We rented from Orlando stroller rentals on our last trip and did not purchase insurance. Our wheel did in fact fall off on main street USA! And we called them and the brought us a replacement within a couple hours--no charge!

I have never had a stroller stolen in 7 visits neither has my sister in law (in more visits then able to count). BUT I get insurance bc my kids can vomit with no warning:confused3! Also they like icecream and they may have chocolate icecream dripping all over themselves. Granted, I would clean up any messes my kids make to the best of my ability but what if something doesnt come out. I spend the $25 for the piece of mind.

We are renting through Kingdom and I opted for insurance. We let friends borrow our Combi single stroller for a WDW trip about 3 years ago and someone stole it. So I am a little overly cautious.

We always get the insurance. Again, more for the piece of mind than anything else. I think it is worth the small fee.
