stroller questions

We will be going to WDW in early June with our 2yr-old DD (will be 27mo). We will be staying at POFQ for 6nights. We will probably just go to MK, Epcot and AK, but not MGM depending on how things work out. We have an Inglesina Zippy that weighs about 17lbs. It's the same size as a P3, but very easy to close. It fully reclines, but our DD is one of those who would never sleep in the stroller or when we are outside. Here are my questions:

1. I'm wondering if I should just buy a cheap umbrella stroller, or get a more expensive light-weight stroller like Mac, vs just bring the zippy. The problem with the light-weight strollers is tipping. We have a skip hop diaper bag that hangs off the zippy and the stroller never tips when it's empty. The other option would be bring the zippy and a cheap umbrella stroller. It's the first time we are going to WDW with a toddler, so I don't really know how things work. Is it safe to leave a $250 stroller parked? Has anyone had their stroller stolen?

2. How do you take the bus with a stroller? Would it be a pain to carry a 17lb stroller?

3. I don't really want to rent one, but if everyone thinks that's best way to go, I'm willing to do it.

Thanks so much!

I would just take the one youre used to...as for sleeping in it, just go back to the hotel and take naps in the afternoon if you can. We brought our peg perego aria twin with us, and it was great..also around 17lbs...DH was in charge of the stroller on the bus...it was a little awkward, but that was cuz it was a double. You don't need to actually carry it much, so I think you'll be fine on the bus as well. I've seen other posts about strollers stolen...you may want to search. We had no problems. Get something distinctive to mark your stroller. Have fun!

I had a friend that just took her twins that are about the same age as your child. She got two cheep umbrella strollers. She said that this was the perfect way to go for her. Also, there is a lot of useful information at www.allearsnet.com. There is an entire section on strollers. I am going in December and have decided to take our own umbrella stroller. Also, instead of our regular diaper bag, we are taking a back pack.

Either take your Zippy or buy a lightweight Mac if you're really concerned about the weight. We've traveled with both a lightweight Mac and the heavier weight Mac (the Global Buggy - the one that accepts an infant car seat) probably about the equivalent of your Zippy and it wasn't cumbersome at all. What I've always found cumbersome isn't the weight as much as how compact it is when folded for getting on and off the bus.

Don't do the cheapie umbrella stroller - your DD will be spending a lot of time in it and you want her to be comfortable. They don't have much in the way of storage or sun bonnets.

As for theft - we have gone twice now with our two Macs. We've never had a problem. Everyone feels differently about this and I'm sure you'll find people who have had problems, but I can honestly tell you that your expensive stroller won't be the only pricey one parked in the stroller parking area.

I would just bring your own Zippy. 17 pounds isn't all that heavy, actually! I have a Maclaren Quest and it is about 12 pounds. I also have the Skip Hop diaper bag and my Mac DEFINITELY tips when DD is taken out, if I leave the diaper bag on! It's no big deal to me...I just take the diaper bag off before taking DD out. But if that's not something your comfortable with, I'd just take your Zippy.

Never mind that they are miserable to push and manouver - especially if you are already used to a MacLaren, PegPerego or Inglesina! Don't make DD or yourself miserable. ;)

We ended up buying a Chico umbrella stroller for our 3 year old when we went last year, it was perfect because it had a sun shade and a small basket underneath but it also was light weight with a carrying strap. I ordered it online from Baby Universe for around $50.
