Hi all,

We are going to WDW in Oct/Nov and I decided it might be beneficial to us to bring a stroller for ds and dd. Problem? We cannot afford the special needs strollers, nor do I want to rent one (just in case something happens to it). I found one by Joovy. It is called the Groovy and the Groovy 2. The Groovy 2 is a double side by side one. It looks great and dependable, but I'm not sure about it holding a 40 lb preschooler and a 90 lb special needs child. Does anyone have any suggestions or is having or had the same problem I am having?

I did a quick glance at www.joovy.com and looked under products at the Groove 2 which shows a weight limit of 40 pounds. You might want to look at some of the other products on that site.

The only thing you will find that can hold up to 90 pounds is a special needs stroller or a wheelchair. The highest capacity regular strollers only hold something like 55 pounds; and those are the more expensive strollerrs like the Maclaren strollers (as I remember).
One thing to check into is whether your insurance will cover a special needs stroller (or much of the cost). Even if your child can walk, many kids with special needs still need a stroller for safety.
This website Adaptive Mall, has a good selection of special needs strollers. The one I linked to is a very common one used by children with special needs.
Here's a recent thread from the disABILITIES Community Board about Special Needs strollers.

You could also try talking with the Special Education or Therapy Department in your local school district. They may know about a lending closet in your area where things like special needs strollers can be loaned out.

depending on the size of your older child, a wheelchair might be a good option because of the weight. I don't know if the size will fit, but the weight would. Some people have also rented the regular double park rental strollers for a larger/older child. CMs have posted in the past that those strollers will hold up to a small 12 yr old.

Thanks for the info. I have researched the Maclaren, and I found 2 companies that rent that stroller. I think I might rent one for the week we are there, and get the single Joovy Groovy stroller for dd. And if ds likes it and it works out for us, I will purchase one when we get home (we have APs to WDW, so it will be a nice investment).
