Stroller question for MK

I read in a guide book that Disney has done away with the hard, clunky, blue strollers at MK. Is this true? What are the new ones like? Does anyone have a pic? I am trying to decide what to do about a stroller, and definitely don't want to rent the hard, blue, plastic ones.

Strollers are always a hot button topic, but I'll try to be brief before the battle lines get drawn.

Keep in mind, I'm not a parent, but I have been to places like this with nieces.

I think an umbrella stroller is really your best bet. They are unobtrusive, fold easily for getting on the buses or monorail, and they sure look comfortable. The problem is that people often get the mindset. . .

"well, since I'm bringing a stroller, I can bring more items and just throw them in the stroller. . .so let's see, I'll need the 50 count box of pampers, three boxes of cheerios for snacks, the cooler, the coleman camp stove, the 5-gallon LP tank, the generator, the 500 yards of extension cord, my hair dryer, two changes of clothes for everyone (in case it rains or the temperature drops below freezing. . .both common in Orlando), the traveling minstrels, 4 monkeys, and that partridge in a pear tree"

Then people get tired pushing their stroller with WAY too much stuff on it, and someone steps in front of them, the momentum of the stroller that weighs more than a H1 Hummer loaded for battle makes it impossible to stop. The crosser gets their ankle whacked, dirty looks are exchanged, the person that gets hit pulls out a prison shive, and the person with the stroller regrets not mounting that 25mm bushmaster machine gun on their stroller.

Bedlam ensues

You come home and see yourself featured in a "the problem with strollers at MK" thread on disboards.

So. . . before I digress. . .just bring an umbrella stroller, they come in wacky colors that the kids love these days.

This website has pictures of all of the park's strollers. The MK strollers are still hard and blue, but are a drastic improvement over the light blue clunkers of yesteryear.

We have always used the park strollers and have been very pleased. My DD found them to be very comfy, and I found them to be quite easy to maneuver.

The only problem with renting park strollers and not bringing your own is that you have to leave the park stroller in the park, so you have no stroller in the parking lot, to the busses, at your resort, at the airport etc. This can be quite problematic at the end of a long day, when you've got packages, a comotose toddler and a long line for your bus.

But like I said we've always used the park stroller, my DD first trip to the world was when she was 3. If she were younger, I probably would have brought an umbrella stroller.

I agree with mattsdragon. Bring your own stroller, it helps to have it when your not in the park. I bought a maclaren triumph stroller for our trip this past June and it was the best stroller I have ever owned. It was expensive as far as umbrella strollers go but worth it. Sorry don't know anything about the new park strollers wish I could help. Just wanted to give my thoughts on what worked for me. :)

I was just wondering if the park ones were any better. I have been to Disney before, and do not load my stroller. Unless you count my children and a backpack as loading, then nope. ;)

I am thinking of getting a Maclaren Volo b/c my son will be 4 1/2. I expect him to walk quite a bit but he will get tired by days end. He'll also happily hold onto the stroller when we walk, but fight holding my hand.

My younger son will ride in our Chicco umbrella stroller.

I agree, strollers should not be used as weapons. But, when you have young children, it's kind of impossible to travel without one. :rolleyes1

Impossible to travel without a stroller or a weapon?
I actually ended up buying an umbrella stroller once when we went to Busch Gardens Williamsburg. I thought that the little guy would be fine walking and then being carried, we skipped out and purchased a stroller for $12

We bring our stroller with us. It helps contain the kids in the airport, waiting for the trams, and they are used to it. Just be sure you are comfortable folding it quickly when you need to get it on the trams.

Just there last week and they have the blue hard plastic ones. We did bring an umbrella stroller for our DD, 3 -- but found that she made out better when we rented the park strollers. With them, she could stretch out more and make herself comfortable.

I am taking my big stroller to use at seaworld (since we won't be riding a bus to get there) and to use for walking at SSR and to DTD. My dd5 can still use that one for those times. I am taking my chicco umbrella for the parks for ds2, since it is much easier to fold and fit on the busses. dd5 and nephew will get a rental if walking in the parks gets too tiring for them. I really want to take the big stroller in the parks for ds2 since it's more comfy for him to sleep in but really don't want the hassle of it with the busses. I'll probably change my mind a few times before heading out.
