Stroller for a 5.5 year old?

TAKE IT!!! TAKE IT!!! TAKE IT!!! When she isnt using it put other stuff in it. The less you have to carry the better.

We are taking a stroller for our DD5.5 in 3 weeks. She's 38lb but she is not used to all that walking/excitement so I figure she'll be in the stroller a lot and fast asleep every afternoon  I will encourage naps so she can hopefully make it to the fireworks even if she just sees them from our room :thumbsup2

Personally, we have used a stroller once during the halloween party and I hated it. We only used it because it was given to us to use by someone leaving the park and it was our very first time in the park. The whole rest of our first trip and all of our second trip my youngest walked. She did NOT want to be in a stroller and she did great walking all day everyday we were there.

My daughter was 7 on our last trip and we used the stroller for her (it was mostly for my 2 year old), but at the end of the night, she is usually tired and will fall asleep in the stroller. Easier to carry the 2 year old!

Take it, absolutely.

We had a Combi Urban stroller for our ds (7) during our trip in August. It was a lifesaver, especially when he fell asleep every night on the bus ride back to the resort. How would you be able to help your mom with the ECV if your arms were full of a sleeping 5 year old???

We probably got some weird looks pushing around our big kid, but I think we got more jealous stares :)

I would rent, use borrow, steal a stroller. Ok maybe not steal but get a stroller. A stroller has saved us numberous times listening to I am tired, my legs hurt'
Stroller is a nice place to store jackets, etc.
have a great time.

Take it!!!!

I plan on bringing my double stroller in April for my then 7 and almost 5 year old. Honestly, I haven't used a stroller for my kids since our last trip to WDW last Feb, but with all the walking and back to back late nights, I like having the stroller for them. My 4yo still naps now and I am pretty sure she will in April too. We like having the option of either parking somewhere when it is not needed and having it when it is needed. it also comes in handy for caring stuff.
Also in the past, We have been caught in the rain a few time. The kids loved staying dry under the rain cover (which I will also bring)

Take it...It may save your sanity at the end of the night!

Another vote to bring the stroller. Our ds was 4 this year & he laid back & took naps while in the parks alot of the days. We plan to take it in September when we go back.

we have 2 maclaren volo's and I find they are great for pushing my kids. my dd is 5.5 but wieghs 60 pounds and it is a breaze to push her. My 3 year old is only 25 pounds and it feels like pushing nothing at all.

I hear you with the princess joke. :) My little princess now wants to be pushed every time we go out. I explained it is a disney thing as it is sooo far to walk but that we really don't need it to walk to the corner store lol. She has been without a stroller fo a couple years but we bring it along to disney every time!!
We push the kids to the area we are going to and then park them....they walk around that section and we get back into the strollers to go to the next.

There is no way my dd now or at 4 could have walked from epcot front gate all around epcot and back to another park that night.

I agree with the pp's - take the stroller. You will be glad you did.

We flew in & out of MCO on late evening flights, and we were SO thankful to have the stroller for our 5 year old. It was 10:30pm when we arrived, 8:30pm when we left and she was *wiped* both times. And the trek to and from the gates was looooong. We saw so many parents struggling with bags and a sleeping child draped over their shoulder.... I turned to DH and said "this stroller just paid for itself. Right here!".

I have to say that my daughter was 7 when we were there in October. At Epcot she was not feeling well and we got her a stroller that day. She is kind of on the short side so it worked well for us. We have been to WDW every year at least once since she was 3 and it was the 1st time we did not have a stroller. We have told her that she will be 8 when we are there in March and she is not getting a stroller then. At 5.5 I say get the stroller.

i will be renting the city min double from orlando rentals when I go in June of this year. I will be taking my dd(7) and my godson who will also be 7.

My boys were 4 and 5 during our last trip to Disney. I brought a double since we also have a 2 year old and I though the boys would take turns in the double stroller. Well, I was wrong. Neither one of them used it the entire 10 days! Glad I packed an umbrella stroller as well and I won't be making the same mistake on our upcoming trip. Just bringing the umbrella stroller again. If you're in doubt, then bring it. Better than not having one if you need it!

I wouldn't bother with a stroller. Last time we went my boys were 5 and 7 and they didn't need it at all. The time before that they were 2 and 4 1/2 and the younger one used it all the time but the older one used it only a couple of times, when we stayed late for fireworks.

Personally I think it's a good idea to encourage the walking, and having a stroller can be a major pain when you have to park it, it gets moved, you have to find it again, you come out of an exit to an attraction which isn't near where you left it and you have to retrace your steps etc.

Also, if your mum has an ecv you can use that to carry stuff you'd usually put on the stroller.

My DS was 5.5 last trip and we took our Volo. He didn't use it every day, but I am so glad we took it...especially at Epcot when we did World Showcase, he was able to rest while we shopped at our leisure.:thumbsup2

We went to Disney in May and are going back in a month. We knew that our then 5 year old son would get tired from all of the extreme walking (especially in the heat). We rented a double stroller from Orlando Stroller Rentals and it made our trip even more magical. The boys (turned 2 on trip and 5) could rest, stay in the shade and were not grumpy. I just completed my transaction for another double stroller in February for the boys (6 and 2).

No, you won't look like a freak. I saw kids as old as 8 and 9 being pushed around. It really depends on how you think she'll do when she gets tired. Are you staying outside of the park? That makes a big difference too. I'm not big on marathon days myself and typically get tired at about the same time my kids do!

I may eat my words as my youngest approaches the same age, but I plan to make her hoof it. Being tired and cranky at the end of the day is part of the experience!! :)

Have a great time!
