Stroller for 6 year old?!

we are going in 2 months and I am bringing a stroller for DD5, I am going to park it in an area like someone in tomorrow land, do all the rides in that area, then have her hop in for the ride to the next land and do the same, and then when she gets tired she can ride in it all the time.

If you feel that she may need one, then bring one or rent one at the parks. WDW is a LOT of walking for little ones, and usually more than they are used to. I have seen huge kids in strollers(usually unoccupied by their younger siblings at the time) and I think it's understandable that kids need a rest sometimes. You can imagine that if you're tired, then they sure are!

On our first 2 trips with kids, we rented double WDW strollers. My kids were 5 and 3 yo, and then 6 and 4 yo. My oldest definetely still needed help when he was 6 and welcomed the stroller. If we would have gotten a single for my younger one and made him walk, he would have had a fit.:furious: On our last trip, my older kids were 8 and 6 yo. The 8yo rarely took a rest in the stroller or even asked for it. The 6yo did use a stroller about 1/2 the time.

If you think that you will probably rent one there, you may want to consider Orlando Stroller Rental. They are cheaper than the park strollers and have great sunshades.

We have a 6 year old and a 3 year old. We have a double jeep umbrella and we love it! You can only have a max of 50 pounds on each side and my 6 year old just fits. It is just nice to have for her to jump in and out of when she wants. Sometimes we will also just park somewhere and walk around for a while and come back for it later.

Only you know how your daughter will do..for us, we like to have the stroller. Some people may judge you for even considering it. My daughter will be close to 7 when we go in December and won't fit in the stroller we have..she'll just have to deal and probably get piggy back rides from her daddy when she gets too tired:)

We love our jeep double, too!
We're going in August with a 6, 4, and 2 year old. My 6 year old is tiny for his age and I know he won't be able to handle lots of walking in the August heat. In the evenings he's fallen asleep in the stroller! I'm sure we'll eventually ditch the stroller but we're always SO grateful to have one!!!

I agree, it depends on the child and the weather/temperature (time of year).

I love how some people post they don't need one for their kid, but fail to mention they go at a time of year the parks are closed at 7pm and the temperature is cool. Then tell another poster not to pack one when the poster is going at a time the heat in FL would make just about anyone want to sit in one! Not this thread, but I have seen it before.

Our first trip to Disney with our boys was in 08. My youngest would be 6 a few months after our August trip. We did not bring a stroller, never used one, never needed one. We don't take breaks back at the resort rooms etc..

Last year, we did use a stroller for him after Fantasmic as it was Midnight (again another August trip) and Disney had every stroller at HS out and available for anyone to use to cart all the sleeping kids to the bus.

If she doesn't use one at home, then she most likely won't need one at Disney.

The weather in Florida isn't any different then the weather at home and if my kids can go all day playing outside without a stroller, they can do Disney without one as well.

I don't know if you are flying or not but I found that strollers in an airport are a pain especially if you are carrying a carseat too . I will use the wrist bands or the halters for those airports since they are really scarey (let's not get into those stories!). But will rent a stroller if I need one once we are there.

What about strollers for us adults:rotfl2: Geeze, we went to Disneyland and i took 3 different pairs of shoes/sandles and my feet were soo sore! I can't imagine how they are going to be after Disney World.

Before you go, how much walking do you try to get everyone to do, to get ready for the trip?

They also sell umbrella strollers at the parks and resorts. I belive they are around $55 so cheaper than renting it for the week. I do not know the weight limit. I know there are threads on here about them though. They were NOT the cheap $10 ones you see at stores sometimes. They were actually pretty nice I thought.

If this is your 1st trip, your daughter will not be expecting to use a stroller, as she does not use one at home. I wouldn't bother with one. I find if they don't know it's an option, they won't want one. After all, it is not common for a 6 year old to use a stroller anywhere but WDW. My older two are not overly active kids and they have had no problem walking from the age of 4 on. They are so excited to be at WDW (and your daughter probably will be, too) that being tired didn't even register until it was time to leave the park at the end of the night. Actually, at times I have to force my 2 year old into the stroller, and that is only because I don't want her to get run over by the crowd. Remember, you have to push this stroller, and pushing a big kid in a stroller is extra work for you. I'm not wearing myself out pushing a big kid so that they are all well rested at the end of the day, and I'm dropping from exhaustion!

My dd is 4 and she still uses a lightweight umbrella stroller for the mall, etc so we are brining one to Disney as well. She likes to ride and I don't mind having the extra space to carry stuff. We have the first years jet umbrella stroller that holds up to 50 lbs.

You can always bring a small one and if you don't end up needing it just leave it at the hotel.

Just wanted to chime in...We are going in August, as we do every year, and the heat is almost unbearable. Having said that, DD7 will be in a stroller. She won't start out in one, but later in the day she'll need it.

I dread the day we don't have a stroller. It's so nice to have a place to put our stuff when we are on rides!

Kids will eventually get tired and beg to sit down.
If you want to enjoy your vacation, just bring one.

:thumbsup2

We're bringing ours. DD is 45 pounds and 46 inches tall. She fits fine in our Maclaren when she's pooped or sick and can't walk any more.

I expect her to walk 90% of the time, but that other 10% will be worth bringing it along.

Besides kids being tired or hot, it comes in handy when you have to be someplace at a certain time and have a long way to walk quickly. Plop the kid in the stroller and you can cover the ground in a fraction of the time.

It's also nice to pack along extra water and snacks knowing you don't have to worry about carrying them.

Yeah, no, but I have had to beg my kids to sit down!

The OP is going in Nov. The park hours are short, the weather is cool. Really, walking shouldn't be a problem.

You know your kid best. If you think a stroller will be needed, do you think it will be needed every day, or only some of the time? I did rent a stroller twice during a trip with my then 6yr old niece. One day it was because she was tired and whiney, the other day it was because she was walking so darned slow we would have lost her without it. Just kidding, but it does stink to have a bunch of family member walking 30 feet ahead of you. It was much easier to just throw her in a stroller and get on with seeing the park!
