Stroller for 5 and 3/4 son? Sorry, I know this comes up a ton...

this is a personal judgement call.

for me that is plenty old enough to not need a stroller especially if the child has not used one in any day to day activities in years.

if he gets tired take a break.
grab a snack and sit on a bench for a little while or do an air conditioned attraction like ellen or the hall of presidents.

if you find that a stroller does become necessary for your child then rent one from the park.

its just much easier to go without if you can.

I would agree with this until someone has a sleeping child that they have to carry onto the bus and then carry off the bus and to the room. My 5 year old was sharing the rented stroller a lot with his 3 year old sister (at the time) I wished I had brought my own stroller for those long walks back to the room.

I have a 6 year old and a 3 year old. I still rent the double stroller for a few reasons- 1. The 3yo will not sit in stroller unless his brother sits in it 2. It helps to corral them from land to land or in large crowds/inclement weather 3. the heat takes it toll on them- and they both take turns resting in the stroller 4. One is a night owl- the other isn't... its great for little naps 5. its great for holding all of our stuff. Although my 6 year old isn't in it very often- as we get on the monorail or go through security- he still sits in in for a bit- then will get out and walk with us most of the day. We do take pm breaks, but the 3 year old is a free spirit and I fear that without the double stroller he would take off.

It's all up to what you and your kids are used to, and how far you're planning to push them on the trip. My DS4.5 doesn't have or use a stroller at home. He walks to the park, around the zoo, fairs, etc. and has for a couple of years now. We don't do 14 hour commando days, and are back to the room by 4 for a nap before dinner. We'll do the same thing for our trip in Jan 2017 as we did on our last trip - reluctantly bring one cheapo single umbrella stroller that he and DS1 will share as needed. I hate strollers and am an avid babywearer, so if both kids are exhausted the little one will go on my back. We'll stop bringing one as soon as my younger son is old enough to walk consistently in the right direction - I'd rather wear him, take a break, or rent one in a pinch. That's what I would do in your situation, but only you know what your kids are up for. Have fun!

5 is the age at which you'll find about half of the kids need them and half don't. Since you're not rushing around and he's 5 3/4 and you haven't mentioned any special needs, I'd lean towards not getting one but you would know your child better than me. I'd lean towards not getting one but budgeting a little extra money just in case you find you want one for the last day or two.

My youngest DID need one at 5. Not due to physical issues but emotional ones as his sensory issues made him really need a place to hide out. My other two kids did not need one at 5. We're commando at the start, then slow it down, then figure it out as we go and leave when one person is acting like it's time. (We found mid-day breaks out of the parks do not work for us).
