Stroller etiquette

One of the ways to avoid these collisions is to not be in the flow of traffic at some key times, like the end of a parade or at the end of Wishes. There are SOOOOOO many families heading out of the park at the same time, trying to get to the buses or ferrys, and they are in a hurry (!) so its more likely to have mishaps. If you see a lot of people headed somewhere in a hurry, try to step aside into a safe spot and wait till it subsides a bit, you should be fine.

That's good to know. The day we are going to be at MK for MSEP and Wishes, the park is open until 11, and there is a second MSEP at 10 (Wishes at 9). So I'm hoping to find a quiet spot to hide out until the crowds leaving after Wishes clear out, but get out before the folks staying for the second MSEP start to think about leaving.

ITA, really. If you rear-end someone while driving, you are the one at fault. I've seen some people bring the triangular jogging strollers into the parks. One lady with her stroller got so mad at "being cut off" that she started chasing after someone else. It was in the area by pirates that gets a little narrower and it really couldn't be avoided. She then proceeded to run her stroller up the ankles/legs off the wrong person because she wasn't paying attention to what she was really doing.

Not true at all actually, that's one of those tales people tell. There's also a myth out there that a pedestrian is never at fault. Most states in out country are "zero fault" states. That means that the at-fault party must carry 100% of the negligence. If the other party show any kind of negligence, called contributory negligence, there is no at-fault party and each party has responsibility for their own damages.

As an example: lets say I'm walking down the aisle at Wal Mart and slip and fall in a puddle of spilled laundry detergent. First question anyone is going to ask me is what color the laundry detergent was. Let's say its blue. Wal Mart is not at fault because I have displayed contributory negligence. It is my responsibility to watch where I'm going.

Now, I'm not saying that people pushing strollers shouldn't watch where they're going and shouldn't be courteous. I've been pushing my son's stroller before and have been cut off by strollers and pedestrians. Rather, I'm saying that we all have a responsibility to be aware of our surroundings. That goes for the person stoppi g short in front of a stroller and the person pushing it.

It will never stop because people are completely self absorbed. 100% unaware of what is going on in front or behind them. The walkers and the stroller pushers alike.

People are also 100% inconsiderate of wheelchairs - it really is absurdly ridiculous.

I feel bad for people who don't know how to be understanding (that accidents happen) and mindful of others (not stop, step or instantly change directions without warning).

When people can care about someone other then themselves perhaps it will get better.

OMG . I should have added a note saying this was tongue in cheek!!!!!

1. Basically we have this; stroller people blame walkers for jumping in front of them, walkers blame strollers for running them over with reckless abandon.....
2. My problem is walking a crowd with people in front of me(so i really cannot see that far ahead) and then the Red Sea of people parts to reveal a double wide heading straight for me!!!! ( like the Moses reference??? Thats to make up for the Nazi thing)
3. Maybe we need stroller lanes in WDW , let them battle it out like on the highways, or maybe people lanes. Wait, those are called lines....
4. Nazi's are fanatics who wish others to behave as they wish, or destroy them. When faced with a four wheeled death machine , what choice do you have but to comply???
5, this was all for fun, don't be scared to bring you stroller, but if you hit someone, your fault or not, say "sorry"
6 , i will hug buildings to avoid damage to my knee which could put me in a .......well wheelchair....this makes my brain hurt.
7. I may buy those shin guards, not for WDW but just to wear to bed.
Peace and love all......
BTW those motorized scooters popping up all over give me nightmares.....

I'm tellin ya the dryer vents are MUCH better than the shin guards. The dryer vents Roll when YOU roll in bed.... see what I'm sayin here? Those shin guards, all they do is get stuck in the covers.

So if the true pedestrian is never at fault, doesn't that mean that the person with a conveyance like a stroller or someone in an ECV would then no longer be a true pedestrian?

My husband routinely likes to stop and smells the roses, but, when we're at WDW, we pay attention to our surroundings. I myself have never been run over, but I've seen instances where people with strollers and in ECVs think that they should have the right of way when it is a pedestrian area. We're all here together and we all seem to be in a hurry, but just because you have a stroller or an ECV doesn't mean you should be able to use it as a weapon because you think someone cut you off. In a car, on the road, that's called road rage.

Yea but with the dryer vents if they get dented the will stay that way and ultimately cut off circulation leading to gangrene.
Not pretty, perhaps a space age polymer ? Carbon fiber?
Flubber???

My take is just like driving a car, the one in the rear, be it stroller or human has to leave enough space not to rear end the person in front of you. And I agree if someone steps out in front of a moving stroller and they get hit it that person's fault. However if the stroller person hits someone from behind, it their fault.

No one should have to try and walk forward and watch out for what is going on behind you.

I have been going to Disney World for over 30 years, many with strollers, couple of times on a scooter due to an injury and not once have I even come close to hitting anyone.

Come to think of it you are probably right. There is nothing worse than a pair of dented dryer vent stroller/Scooter protection hose. Why heck even the magnets would have a hard time sticking.

I think we are gonna need a force field....
Time to get back to the lab!

my hubby was rammed with a stroller one night at MK. I was leading him (holding his hand) he can't see in the dark.

this lady took the attitude of "I am moving forward, quickly, and the person will see me and get out of my way."

well, hubby didn't see her, so did not get out of her way. it was one of those "intersections" where people can cut through from a few dif. places, and, unfortunately, I was watching for the most likely interference point in a dif. direction and didn't see it..
when he just kept walking, she didn't stop, RAMMED into his shins. yelled at him for not getting out of the way "didn't you see me coming?!?" and kept running on, pushing the stroller as she rushed on.

she played chicken and hubby lost. he wasn't playing chicken.. he couldn't see her.
