Stroller as a wheelchair question

My whole family is excited about finally bringing our newest addition to Disney this August – my DD9 is especially excited to introduce him to her favorite place in the world! My son, who will be just a little over 12 months when we go to Disney World, has significant physical delays. He was diagnosed with HIE after being in extremely serious condition in NICU for almost a month after being born. He is just learning to crawl with the help of his physical therapist so there's a good chance he won't be walking or able to stand on his own when we get to Disney. I was thinking about possibly getting a GAC to use the stroller as a wheelchair to avoid carrying him everywhere in the August heat. I understand that would allow us to keep the stroller in line if we need to, but I was wondering if we were carrying him and he did not want to be in the stroller do we park it in stroller parking or wheelchair parking – I do not want to take the space from someone who needs to have their wheelchair close by since he will be carried and not walking back to his stroller…does anyone have experience with this?

He's such an amazing little guy and has been through so much in his short time here, I can't wait to see his face (not to mention his big sister's) when we get there!

Thanks for any help and advice you can give. Being new to being a mom to a baby with special needs is a daily learning experience and I have come to realize that it is okay to ask for help when it is needed!

Wheelchairs park in the stroller parking. You wouldn't be "taking away" anyone's space.

::yes::

That is correct. Anyone who parks a wheelchair outside of an attraction parks in the stroller parking area.

Something else to consider is to just take the stroller with you. Most rides will pull it to the side once you are on the ride. More than once we didn't need the stroller while waiting but by the time we got off the ride DD was not wanting to walk etc. Was nice to have it waiting on us.

I would consider the GAC for stroller as wheelchair, if for no other reason than to help keep him cooler than the body heat of holding him. You don't always have to use it, but it might be good to have 'just in case'. I would also recommend a good stroller fan, as it gets really hot in August! If you take a fan, make sure you pack a screwdriver and extra batteries!

And in the Land pavillion in Epcot, they will not allow you to take the stroller in unless you have the stroller as a wheelchair tag. Some restaurants as well.

Have a magical trip!
