I want to bring a stroller with us because I don't think my daughter will make it all day till 10:00pm. I do not want to rent because I want to have the freedom of using it to get out of the park also and then we have it to let other family borrow when they go to Disney instead of wasting our money on a rental. I was looking at the Maclaren Volo. My daughter is 48" and weighs about 48 pounds. I was hoping someone who has used one for a child of that size could tell me how well they worked. Were they easy to push?

I don't know about the stroller you asked about, but the Disney strollers are quite large and great for older kids. My 7 year old rode in one for some of our October trip.

I have the Maclaren Triumph for my DS 5. He is the same size and weight as your daughter. I found this stroller 2 years ago. It is wonderful and easy to push/navigate. I personally like having my own stroller. If the line waiting for the buses/monorails/boats are long, it is a blessing to have a place your child can sit and wait. I'm not sure where you are staying but the bus stops at a lot of the resorts are far away from your room. It is not fun carrying a heavy, sleepy, tired child back to the room. Maclarens are great strollers. I hope that your family has a great trip!:)

Yes, but you have to give it back on your way out and that walk to the bus stops can be torture if you have to carry a tired and worn out 48lb kid. I know, I've done it!! :upsidedow

I agree 100%! We have a triumph for our 5 yo - she is very close to the same size as your daughter. She had outgrown her first stroller and we bought it last year for our Oct trip and it was a life saver! Well worth the money and easy to use. One suggestion - get the universal Maclaren organizer that straps on to the handles for more stash space!

I have a volo that I used to use for my now four year old. I was debating whether or not to take it when we go in August because I was thinking it might be getting a little small for her. It is a great stroller but might be a tight fit for a 7 year old. My older daughter is about the same size as yours and it's definitely tight with her.

How can a 7 yr old be worn out and tired if she's been pushed around in a stroller all day? If anything, the parents will be tired from pushing her, and then they have to lug the stroller onto the bus, etc.

If an older child cannot fit into a regular stroller, have you tried looking for medical ones on the DISabilities forum?

I stopped yesterday at BabiesRUS with DGrD and walked out with the Volo. She is only 3.5, but s-in-l is 6'4", and she is also HUGE for her age - 46"/48lbs- wearing a size 6/7:scared1: !! I've had the Maclaren Techno Classic for her and LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!, but wanted a lighter knock-around stroller for our boardwalk & mall trips. I put her in several strollers and pushed her around the store - went with the Volo that is all mesh (great for the summer here and in FL, won't get/stay wet in the rain). The triumph (or quest, can't remember which, it was the next most expensive one) seat was too shallow for her. The other brands did not handle anywhere near as smoothly as the Mac. The only problem I forsee is that her head will soon be above the back of the stroller. The volvo does not recline, but I'm fine with that, she could comfortably fall asleep in it if she needed to as there was a good incline to the seat. I will be bringing it along to WDW instead of renting for many years - and now I can save the wear and tear on the Techno - saving it for the next Grandbaby! Good luck in your search - the Macs are the only ones I've found rated for over 40lbs.:thumbsup2

from what I have been told you can leave a cheapo stroller at the customer service there at the rental place and they will tag it with your name on it.. and you can rent one of the nicer strollers for the parks!

My daughter is only 3, but we've had the volo for over a year and absolutely LOVE it. It's so light and easy to use. I don't think I can go back to the enormous Graco if we have another baby! We are planning to bring it to WDW this summer. The only thing that is a little annoying is that it's hard to push with one hand, because it doesn't have a bar handle, but two curved ones. I think most umbrella strollers are like that, though. Oh, and it's a lot taller than the $15 umbrella strollers as well, which makes it much easier on your back!

I did a bit of research on good, light, sturdy and comfy strollers, for children that are a bit older, a couple of years ago.

I ended up going with the Maclaren Quest myself. It was a great investment for our last few Disney trips. It lasted 4 trips from age 5 1/2 to age 7.

By age 7, her head didn't rest on the back of the stroller any longer and her legs were scrunched up a bit and it was time to say goodbye. She was 48 inches by then.

I got it for $139 total at www.albeebaby.com which was a great price.

Good luck deciding!

my son is 7 and we dont rent him a stroller except at epcot
that park is so big and if we plan on a long day then i get a double
ds3 uses a single and if he walks we will let the ds7 sit in it sometimes

I think this is a little silly. The OP was not planning on pushing the child 'all day'. And it is reasonable to assume a child of that age would be tired by 10pm. And I would imagine that specialized strollers for disabled children are not exactly cheap! I have been tossing around the idea myself for my DS (5) as he will ikely be tired and I may very well want to stroll around WS at night. If he does fall asleep I cannot imagine returning the WDW stroller and lugging his 50 lb butt to the bus or back to our room - my back would be shot! I have no intention of pushing him around all day nor would be let me ;) , and likely I would even stash my stroller somewhere in the park to pick up when needed.

My daughter is 6 almost 7 and yes after a full day in the parks, despite being pushed around all day, she's tired and worn out. I think I really like that idea of having an umbrella stroller checked at the Stroller Rental for that walk from that point to the bus. There are times she's made it to the bus stop, only to fall asleep on the bus and then I had to lug her to the hotel room. That was no picnic either...

I want to start out by saying I'm all for strollers. I feel safer when I know where DD7 is especially at disney..

We live 45 min. from Disney and go often. 2yrs ago we stayed in disney fir a 7 day trip. I bought the Triumph for the same reason you are. Well 1/2 way to park I realized I forgot the stroller.. DH stated their is no way he was turning around for stroller (MEN!!!). We rented the disney stroller and it was the best thing we ever did, DH only stayed w/us for 1/2 the trip so I was really nervous about the bus ride back to hotel and would she hold up walking all the way to bus stop.. She surprised everyone. Even when we did MNSSHHP, and left park after midnight.

So do not be nervous about disney strollers they are so easy to push!! And its so nice not to lug something else into park..DD is now 7 much taller then your DD and I will still rent a stroller for her if she wants one.

RENT THE STROLLER FOR WDW. It was the best and easiest thing we have done when there.
