Stripped down WDW vacation?

Yep, we're doing 5 nights over Labor Day (a magical package we booked through a TA) and staying at WL. We're doing one day at AK and one at MK. Our twins are 6--they'd rather go to the fab pool than bounce to every park. We do have passes for a water park for one day, and will do that. We have some good ADR's but money is a little tighter lately--I'd gladly just throw them out and eat table service and in the room, and enjoy our incredible hotel, where we've never been! Memory maker--good question. We had such beautiful pics last year and we're not the best photogs...

we stopped down one year en route to see family for Christmas. Stayed at the Dolphin for 3 nights and didn't do ANY parks. We visited the resorts, DTD, Boardwalk, rode the monorail, watched fireworks from outside the parks, rented a mouseboat, did Ft Wilderness and hung out at the pool. Now, my kids were about 9 and 13 so it WAS tough to be so close and not go in, but you guys are doing 50% of the parks and that's awesome as a combo trip. The way this goofy FP+ is now with really only guaranteeing 3 rides of choice w/out a line, has definitely altered my perception of the parks. No longer is our focus the rides, it is do we want to pay that for the atmosphere? You can get pretty close to it outside of the parks

If we lived closer, we would totally consider this type of WDW trip. As it is, the travel portion of our trip is long and in many ways stressful (a lot of travel hours, plus managing the kiddos and stuff, organizing the room, etc.), that we really need the extra time to relax and enjoy the non-travel days. As for skipping some parks, we sometimes go a few years between WDW trips and I would go crazy knowing that I am right there and couldn't see every park at least once! :) But then again, a scaled down trip is still better than no trip at all.

You will have a great time! I try to do something different each trip - I've done as little as a single MVMCP on a trip. IMO, a little Disney is better than no Disney!

I was worried the kids wouldn't be so excited for just a couple days, but they are overjoyed! Now they're in the planning phase of figuring out what they want to see! LOL

After not planning on going back for awhile I decided that I did want just one more trip together as a family. I know my oldest ds would be happy not having to go back to WDW ever again, but I managed to convince him to try one last time and that we could do a more low-key visit.
I booked during the FD promo and instead of getting park tickets and hoppers for every day, I went with the minimum of 3, and the water park option. We'll definitely go to MK one day, and the two water parks too. We'll probably take a day for AK but for the 3rd park we'll probably just head to Epcot for a few hours and our ADR at night. The rest of the time we'll spend at the resort pool just relaxing, and head to DTD for dinner.

The minimum ticket purchase is a 2 Day Park Hopper. That's what we purchased for the FD promo a couple days ago :)

We wanted to have 3 days for the water park though since my ds will most likely want to go to Disney Quest.

I thought it said 3 day when I read it, did they change it or was it always 2 and I just totally missed that?
Just went and read, I must have seen the 3 night minimum. Oh well, we'll use the 3 days so its all good.

I don't know about the past, but this time around it was always 2 days. But there's 3 NIGHTS minimum stay....either way, I am thinking I'll actually enjoy these shorter trips better as there probably won't be as much stress in planning. I hope anyway LOL

This will be our first WDW trip and we are doing 7 days in the parks, 8 nights at AOA Little Mermaid. I may upgrade to hoppers but most likely won't. We are coming from almost as far from Orlando as you can get and still be in North America. For us to justify going all that way we will stay for a decent length of time. We have done 1 day trips to DL as we were in Diamond Bar/ Fullerton for a wedding in Sept 2012, I was in Tokyo for 4 days (3 weeks in Japan) so I did Tokyo Disneyland, and same with Paris Disneyland last year, so I took DD. Those trips were more of a "since we are here anyways let's go to Disney!" type trips. Our DL trip in Nov 2013 was a dedicated 5 day trip for DL as will our Nov 2015 be for WDW.

We are doing a 4 night stay at the Beach Club in late summer. I've already explained to DS that we were focusing on the pool, water parks and the highlights in the parks. And we might just skip the AK this trip.

We're going back for a 9 night trip at Christmas so I think he'll be fine with the minimal effort.
