String's Atkin's Journal (Please Comment)

It is time to give up my nap. I woke up at 4AM and couldn't get back to sleep. At 5 I got up and went to the Y. I did my weight circuits and 45 minutes on the treadmill at 3mph. I didn't get too wasted at that pace. I've also gotten 2 loads of laundry done.

Goals for the day:
1.) Finish laundry.
2.) Fold laundry- yes in my house this is a separate task.
3.) Call to get appointment for eye exam.

I made a huge batch of chicken salad for dinner last night, so I plan on that for lunch. Dinner will be a pizza casserole. I need to get back to crossstitching my sister;s picture. I haven't been working on it. I haven't been feeling too hospitalable towards her since the shower, but I made a promise. This will also keep me from snacking.

I will do journals a bit later this morning. Have a great day.
Beth

Good morning Beth!
Great job getting your workout in already! :Pinkbounc I'm glad to hear that you are taking it easy while exercising. ::yes::

I had to laugh when you said folding the laundry was a separate task in your house; it's a separate task in my house too! So, is putting the laundry away. I'll wash it one day, fold it the next day, and then if everyone is lucky, I put it away instead of leaving it in baskets on the couch.;)

By the way, any chance that you can send some of the chicken salad my way? It sounds delicious!:teeth:

Have a great day, Beth!:sunny:

Okay, how do you make this pizza casserole?

It is good to see you are feeling better and taking things slow. How are things with your MIL?

Beth:

I guess its nice to be so needed on the job. But it's not like you were scheduled off on the fourth for a vacation!

I get stuck working the most important holidays too. Seniority doesn't count for anything as far as Thanksgiving and Christmas. My regular day off has always happened to be Mondays so I'm off for most of the Monday holidays anyway, but it just means a day of holiday pay, not an extra day off down the road.

You are so nice to still be working on a crosstitch for your sister. Perhaps she'll calm down once the hormones calm down.

Your story about Katie and the Fourth made me smile - what a kind and generous child she is! An absolute angel, like her mother.

Eating low carb and eating very low carb are 2 different things...making good choices with regard to refined and processed foods keeps you still on plan. Choosing to eat whole foods that are high in nutrients and fiber (in more of the SBD way of thinking) is still low carb. Don't feel guilty about updating the bear - this way of eating might just agree with you.

take care,
Laurie

Just popping in for a quick Hi Beth! I hope all is well with you and that you are finding this new lc version of eating works for you. Especially since it is summer, I hope you are able to enjoy all the wonderful fruits and vegetables. It is a whole lot easier to pass them up in the winter, isn't it??
Take good care of You Beth!::yes::

It was a rough night. Won is sick, so he is still in bed. Katie woke up at midnight wth an allergy attack. This necessitated a shower, meds, changing her sheets, and a breathing treatment. Even though sshe was up until 1AM,she was raring to go this morning. I took her to the Y, and I walked 2 miles. I am going to try to walk another 2 miles tonight. I still need to fold 2 loads of laundry. I went to my eye exam. My eyes are much worse. I needed new frames too. My current frames are too wide for my face now. I really wish I could have spwnt that money on something else. It will come out of our flexible spending account, but still.

I've basically been op today.
B: Ham/cheese roll ups.
S:all breve latte.
Lunch: Cheeseburger, snap peas, 1/2 grapefruit.
Dinner: I am hoping to go to TGIFridays. If not omelets.

I probably won't get to many journals until later today.
Have a good one,
Beth

Beth, I'm sending healing pixie dust to your house for Won - I hope he's feeling better soon. You could sure use his help to deal with everything else!

I hope you found some wonderful frames that you really like for your new glasses. I know it's tough to swallow the cost but won't it give you a boost to have a new style?? I've worn glasses all my life and I try to make a pair of frames last through several lens changes, but it is fun to get a new look sometimes!

The Mom in me says to be careful NOT to overdo the walking. I hope you're walking at a relaxed pace and SLOWLY rebuilding your endurance. This is not a race. :sunny:

Sending :sunny: your way, dear Beth!

Just a quick post before I go to bed. We went to Olive Garden for dinner. I had the parmesan crusted chicken with extra brocolli, rather than pasta. Just a fyi-OG now has wholw wheat linguine that can be substituted for any pasta.

I went for a walk after dinner. 2.5 miles. The weatheris perfect. Doe, I am not pushing myself. I'm taking it nice and slow. I get my PICC line out tomorrow. Now I won't be stared at. I've had so many people ask what type of cancer I have. They are dissapointed when I tell them it was pneumonia.

I'm definately taking it easy tomorrow. 2 mile walk in the AM. Nap in the afternoon. 12 hour shift at night.

Ok, I'm off to bed. Have a good one.
Beth

Good for you that the PICC is getting removed. You will be more comfortable. Good job on all the walking. Make sure you rest up tomorrow before your 12 hours. I hope your husband is feeling better so he can take over with Katie and you can rest a little. Have a good one. You sound like you are really on the mend.:D

:D Good morning, Beth. I'm glad to hear that ole PICC line is leaving today. One less thing for you to deal with. Please promise me that you won't walk if you're feeling tired; pace yourself!!! Don't overdo on that 12 hour shift, either. Sorry I'm so bossy, but once a mom, always a mom. :p Oh, and a hug for Won; get him better soon!

Hey, when are we going to sit down together with a tall nonfat vanilla something-chino? (Wouldn't that be nice?) You're still drinking coffee, aren't you?

 See you later,
Erin

Beth- you are amazing. I am so proud of you. Keep doing what you are doing unless your body gives you a signal to slow down. I hope Won is feeling better soon. And poor Katie- I have a soft spot for that kid, you know- but she sounds like she is no worse for the wear!
You know that expression, "God will only give you what you can handle" ? So often when I read your journal this saying comes into my mind. Your family is lucky to have you, you are such a natural care-taker. Like when you were in the hospital because YOU were ill and you end up taking care of your roommate!!!
When the troubles are piled upon my plate and someone says to me "God only gives you what you can handle" I feel like there is a penalty for being a capable person. But it isn't that at all- it is a priveledge to be able to help my family and children through their troubles and illnesses. It is a gift from God.
Enjoy your day-
Mary:sunny:

I woke up today, and felt really good. It is amazing what adequate sleep can do for a person. I went to the Y, and walked 2 miles at 3.2 mph. I felt that I could do more, but didn't want to push it. Thanks for all the concern everyone. I promise I won't push myself.

I have a crustless quiche in the oven. I'll take that and salad to work. I pick up katie, go to the dr. office to get my PICC out, then it is nap time. (I could take the PICC out myself, but dr says that is a no-no)

I am sorry I won't get to all journals until Sunday. I probably have time to do 3 today. I am thinking of all of you. Sending:goodvibes :sunny:
Beth

Hope your shift goes well and you get some good sleep when you get home. I am also working Saturday nocs so I will be in the same boat :boat: on Sunday.......hoping for some good zzz's in the am when I get home. I am going to start working 2 shifts a week 7 pm until 3:30 am. I know I said I HATED working nocs, but it works out for the summer. I hope I will feel like I am not missing out on that much working that shift. My absolute worst time is at 4 am so hopefully I will be home and tucked in bed by then. Do you do straight weekends because you signed a contract or because it works out the best for childcare? Well at least I can say we both have a choice for work hours, no daycare, etc. Some people don't and for that I am grateful. Take care.:D

wiped out describes me right now. My BIL watched Kate today. She has been throughly spoiled, and has an attitude with me tonight. Sorry. That doesn't wash for me. BIL had to leave at 4, so I ended up with 7 hrs of sleep, but I'm still wiped out. I work 8 hrs midnights tonight, and the unit is a zoo this weekend. We are an 18 bed unit, and last night there were 18 vented patients. 4 of them had balloon pumps, and one was on CRRT, 2 codes. I know I'm babbling medical jargon, sorry. We scrambled all night long.

Have a good one. I'll check in tomorrow.
Beth

No apologies needed Beth, I'm non clinical staff where I work, but I understood everything you said and boy, you sure had your hands full! Well, get as much rest as you can and on your next exercise day, take it easy, ok? Glad you got your PICC out, you must feel relieved. I'm glad to see you're recovering.

I want to thank you again for your support, I really appreciate it. Take care! :D

Hi Beth!
I'm sorry that work was so hectic last night for you! I hope that you get a chance to relax and enjoy your Sunday.::yes::

I bet that you are happy to have that PICC line out, huh? What is a PICC line for? When I was pregnant with Emily, my doctor talked about putting one in and I can't remember why. Is it for an IV?

I hope you have a good Sunday, Beth.:sunny: Take care!

Tracy:wave2:

:wave2: Hi Beth,
Just checking in to see how you're feeling. I hope you are able to get some rest today. Your menus always sound so yummy ::yes:: . I hope you are doing well with adding a little bit of healthy carbs into your diet.

Things went from bad to worse. I work in a hospital in the subburbs. Our patients generally aren't violent, it could be considered a pretty cushy job by anyone who works in the city. Having said that, I am battered and bruised from last night. We got a patient who was at his bachelor party, and his friends slipped him some PCP. He ended up infarcting, and in our unit in restraints. He ended up breaking the bed frame and attacking his nurse. She has been hospitalized with rib fractures and concussion. I got thrown againt the wall and kicked. I am fine, but am reconsidering my career. Right now a job in a podiatrists office is sounding good. I am sure things will look better in the morning. I am going to bed .
Beth

Had a disturbing thing happen at the Y. I was changing in the locker room, and a woman handed me a card. It was the phone number and address to a women's shelter. This hugely upsets me because Won, Katie, and I go to to the Y for events. I don't want people to think he is beating me. I have a bruise on my arm, ribs, and shoulder. I explained to the woman that the bruising was from a patient and thanked her for her concern. It was obvious that she didn't believe me. Ugh, I have heard her gossiping in the locker room before. I am really upset by this.

It is rainy, and I am sore. I hope to get Katie to take a nap. The house is a mess, and I don't even care. I walked 3.4 miles in an hour today. I have no plan.
Beth
