String's Atkin's Journal (Please Comment)

Beth, it's Sunday afternoon and I hope you're relaxing by the lake shore with a good book while your parents are having a great time with Katie. I'm sending prayers up for your continued recovery, for your MIL's recovery, for Katie's safety, for Won & FIL as they are trying to do the best they can for ALL the people they love, and for your dear parents as they help you during your tough times.

Rest easy, my dear Beth.

Glad you were able to get away this weekend, Beth. Hope you are feeling better and had some quality time with your hubby and DD. I am praying for a peaceful resolution to the sitch with your MIL. Keep yourself and your loved ones safe. The restraining order is a good thing.

Jean:hug:

Good morning Beth,
I am hoping that you and Katie had a relaxing and peaceful weekend. ::yes:: I'm also hoping and praying that some resolution is coming to the situation with your MIL. Take good care of you my friend.

:wave2: Hi Beth,
Just stopping by to say I hope you are feeling better and had a nice time at the lake. Take care.

Beth- relax and take care of yourself. We are all thinking about you. I hope you, Katie, and your parents are having a nice weekend. I hope you have an uneventful week when you return.

Hello All,

I am very glad we left town. MIL showed up where Won works and made a scene. He bundled her out, but not before his boss noticed. We are hoping there won't be any problems long term there. There have been no other incidence since Friday, but I think I saw her car a few times today.

We had a great time. Katie played in the water, and then would run to the hot tub. There was a pow-wow and Fireworks in Saturday. We met the actress who was Pocahontas' voice, and all had fun. Bon fires at night, sleeping in and naps. I am reading a light novel called Faking it. It has quirky characters and is funny, but definately not something that requires too much brain power. I have enough drama in my life right that light reading is in order.

I have realized I need to change some things in my life. Yes, I can hear the "Duh" out there. Won and I have talked. We're going to cut some corners, but I am cutting my hours. I will be working 12 hours on Fridays and 8 hours on Saturday. We are hoping that we can do this financially, but I won't be working anymore 16 hr shifts.

Dinner is ready, I'll do journals after Katie is in bed. Thanks for caring.
Beth

Sounds like a nice relaxing time Beth. I think cutting back on your hours is smart...16 hour shifts are killers! You are putting your family first which is the most important thing!
Best wishes, Jean

::yes:: I agree that cutting your hours sounds like a good idea. More sleep will help you stay well. I swear when I work too many noc shifts and don't get enough sleep I end up so sick.

I'm glad you had a relaxing weekend.:D Sorry about the continued drama from your MIL. I would document that you saw her car around your house. She is a threat that sounds like shouldn't be taken lightly.

Have a good night.

Beth, I'm so glad to hear you're cutting back on your hours. It might take some juggling financially, but it's probably best in the long run. I'm happy to see you had a relaxing weekend because you sure did not it. Take care hon, talk to you soon!:D

Beth:

I think it is an excellent idea for you to cut back on your hours. You can find ways to cut back fananically and not hurt for it. My DH and I are testament to that. If you have it, you spend it. If you don't have it, you don't spend it. If you do decide to pick up any extra shifts past your weekend commitment, then that money goes straight to the vacation fund because you've earned the time off.

Katie will be starting regular school very soon. Have you thought about working as a school nurse or teaching at a nursing school? Preparing yourself to find a way to work days and not nights and weekends?

You communicate very well through your words. I'm sure the same is true with your family, friends and coworkers when you are talking with them in person. You could train the next generation of nurses very easily.

It's just a thought...

Wishing you some real peace and time to heal.

Thanks guys,

I am making some major changes in my life. I will still be following a lc diet, but I am moving into maintainace for awhile. My body is demanding it form me, and I will listen to it. I will still be working out 4-5days/week because I feel better when I exercise. It is also healthier for me. I will weigh in on July 4th, and I will then put the scale away until Sept 1st. In July I will do a better job of tracking my goals. I've completely lost track this month. Won will be helping me out more around the house. It will be probably 6 weeks before I feel 100% better. I will be taking naps, and scaling back on activities.

I'm trying to figure out my career goals. I like the unit I work on, and the flexibility is nice. I don't know if I want to do it long term. I am a great teacher, but I don't enjoy it. I am frequently a preceptor at work, and it frustrates me. I would much rather just jump in and just get it done. I do have my BSN, so I could teach without any extra schooling. I've thought about CRNA, but I don't really want to school any further. I also don't want to work full time. I have 2 years before Kate is in 1st grade, so I have lots of time. It is something I need to think about though.

I'm off to bed. I did nap today, and I'll nap tomorrow. I'll check in tomorrow afternoon. I hope everyone has a great day tomorrow.
Beth

Beth, I am just beaming with pride right now!! You are doing a great job of taking good care of yourself!! You're taking naps, modifying your eating plan to meet your needs, continuing your exercise, scaling back your work hours, thinking about the future and getting more help from Won around the house. You really sound like you have it all together at the moment and you should be very proud of you too!!

It's just like my tag says - "take good care of you, you're worth it!"

I hope your day is filled with healing and peace. :sunny:

Good Morning Beth! I can't believe your MIL caused a scene at your DH's work. My Lord! I hope she accepts some help soon. Sounds like you had a great and relaxing weekend!

Good for you for realizing your physical and mental limitations and giving yourself a break. We as woman all seem to take on to much - it seems to be part of our nature. Only when we come to the breaking point do we realize that we can't do it all. Good for you for taking the necessary steps for taking some stress off of yourself.

~Amanda

Beth - I'm so sorry that I haven't been around for so long. It sounds like you are taking good care of yourself and feeling better. Just keep it up! :Pinkbounc You DON"T want a relapse!

I am so sorry to hear all the problems MIL is causing. You are so right to have the restraining order. I would be terrified she would take Katie, let alone just feed her the wrong stuff! My MIL could never understand/keep track of my kids food allergies either. The good news is that they grew out of the allergies, so it stopped being an issue. However, I don't think this woman is going to stop being an issue for you any time soon!:( More  for you as you deal with all of these things! You and your family will remain in my prayers.

Glad to hear you lightened up on the diet for a little bit. Your body needs a well balanced diet to fully recover. That includes lots of veggies and fruit! Please continue to take good care of yourself. It will make dealing with everything else simpler!::yes::

I hope today holds much :sunny: and beautiful moments for you! Enjoy your time with Katie and your Mom!! ( and Won too!!:teeth: :p )

TTFN-
Sharon :sunny:

I'm supposed to be leaving for work right now, but I wanted to pop in for a minute. It's good that you're taking it easy and I think you're on the right path. Keep up the slower pace and I know your body will thank you for it. Good to see hubby is being so supportive. Take care Beth.:D

It's good to hear you are making some positive changes in your life. It sounds like you were pushing yourself much too hard before. When did the doctor say he would release you back to work? I would make sure I was 100% before returning. I don't know about your job, but our hospital is a no mercy zone for returning employees! Your assignment is your assignment, etc. Don't go back too soon. I am right there with you in regards to what to do for the rest of my career. I do not want to work in a hospital for the rest of my life. I love my unit but the hospital is too demanding and stressful. Who wants to work holidays/weekends forever? Certainly not I. It works for right now but this is NOT longterm/lifetime for me. I just have to figure out what is. I hope you are feeling better soon.:D

:wave2: Hi Beth,
I'm glad to hear you are on the road to recovery and making some positive changes to support that ::yes:: . Keep up the great work of taking care of yourself, Beth  .

Hi All,

I am sorry that I didn't get to journals yesterday. The boards were down in the afternoon, and then I got sucked into a marvelous book. James Patterson's,Sam's letters to Jennifer I read it in one sitting. I highly reccommend it. I went to my doctor yesterday, and she said I could go back to work after the holiday. I finish my antibiotics on the 4th, so I will work a 12 hour shift on that Friday. I am not scheduled for Saturday. My hospital is like yours Wilderness, but my unit isn't. I'll have the cake assignment for at least that shift.

I took Katie to camp, then I went for a walk. It was just a stroll. I walked 2.5 miles, and it felt good. I am taking Katie to her pediatrician today. She couldn't have her vaccines because she had a cold at her well child visit. Other than that, not much planned.

I've definately increased my carbs. I am having all bran cereal with berries for breakfast. Lunch is a salad and ham/cheese sandwich. Dinner will be grilled salmon, salad, and snap peas. I have a pint of lc ice cream that I might sample.;) My snack in the afternoon will be yogurt with added fruit. I think I am heading for the South Beach diet. We'll see how it goes. My doc is all for the lc diet after i am healthy again.

I'll hit a couple of journals before I pick up Katie.
Have a good one.
Beth

Hi Beth- I always though South Beach looked like a sensible LC plan. Some fruit and whole grains...
I never read that James Patterson book but I have read a bunch of his stuff- all serial killer fiction tales. I had to stop reading them because they were too creepy.
Hope you are feeling good today.
Mary:D

Beth:

I think your direction towards a SBD approach is a good one. It will let you take advantage of all that good summer fruit and produce. Lots of vitamins and loads of good fiber! Staying away from the scale is good too (I'll join you - doing Lisa's challenge as well.) Somehow eating right and exercising for you and not for the scale is a positive thing.

Keep on feeling better and no over doing it, OK?
