Do you eat it "normally" (like you would a carrot stick) or do you pull it apart and eat the "strings" one at a time?

Definitely the strings!

I like to play with my food. :rotfl:

Exactly what do you mean by "real" cheese? I'm wondering what definition would exclude string cheese?

Some "cheeses" are actually "processed cheese product" that are mostly water & oils and other gunk. They actually have to legally label themselves as "processed cheese product" versus real cheese. Most American cheese falls under that category.

I'd agree that many of the processed American cheese (e.g. the single-wrapped slices especially) definitely are that... and generally speaking, they taste kind of nasty.

But I don't think I've ever seen a string cheese that would meet that criteria as a processed cheese product.

I had one cheese that tasted bad. I'm not sure of the company or it it was a true string cheese, which I always thought was mozzarella. It might have been one of those processed cheese products shaped and packaged to look like the string cheeses. It had a real rubbery taste & texture. :p

String cheese isn't like what it use to be like. I remember as a kid, string cheese being really stringy. Now it is a lot of work to peel the strings apart to eat.

Sounds yummy ;)

I think that was probably the exception, though... I stand by my believe that most string cheese is "real" cheese.

I usually just bite it, rather than pulling it apart. But I do sometimes slice it onto a salad.

All the string cheese I buy is real mozzarella. I wouldn't touch cheese product with a 10-foot pole! (Unless I'm using it to make queso dip....nothing beats a brick of fake cheese and a can of Rotel!)

I pull the strings and mine is real cheese, no cheese products. Low-fat skim milk mozzarella.... (no artificial anything in them).

Neither. I put it in the microwave for 15 seconds. It comes out all melty and gooey. Yum. Just don't burn yourself!

I pull as many "strings" as possible. If you're not going to eat it the "stringy" way, why not just buy a block of cheese and cut off a chunk and eat it?

This --I pull also and only eat the real thing. It is a nice, convenient , protein snack when travelling.

Pulling it apart IS the normal way. Why else would they call it STRING cheese instead of stick cheese?
