Strike,just heard a new rumour.

A work colleague of mine went to DLRP for the first time with her two children last Monday, they are due to return home this evening. Will be interested to hear her take on all this when I see her in work on Monday afternoon.

I just spoke to people at the Marriott where we are staying and they said that although there were strikes there last week they don't anticipate it being a problem for next week. Can't say I believe them though. :sad2:

I guess we'll just have to hope it'll be ok. :guilty:

Just got back from a week long stay at DLP We didnt see any parades except for yesterday when Disney stuck 2 fingers up at the strikers and had the parade music and all the dancers/characters as well as sneaking in an extra performance of the stunt show (which had been cancelled the day before). The people on strike made me very mad, they laughed about cancelling the parade it just seems like one huge joke to them and what made me even more angry was the fact that most of them where wearing designer clothes and sunglasses yet claim to need more money. It just seemed like they were having a good time. I found them very intimidating and they scared most children they went past.
The castmembers who were working were wonderful and many of them seemed ashamed to be associated with the strikers. This is my 3rd visit to DLP and I will not be going again for this length of time. Disney to me is the parade and shows and for these selfish people to ruin mine and many others holidays is not acceptable I think they should look at themselves and ask should they really be working at a place like disney with this attitude.

That's so bad! Can't understand why they find it amusing to ruin other families' holidays. I'm so sad to hear that! Can't they just don't come to work or strike in front of the entrance (if they have to) instead of scaring children in the park? :furious:
I feel so sorry for you and your family. I really hope you'll return there someday and get the fully dose of magic!!

Keep my fingers crossed for you sarahc and all the others going to DLRP that the situation is getting much better soon.

we got back yesterday. The protests were very frightening to be around they were loud long and some were very rude. They would just be a least 100 if not more marching through the shops on Main street at the same time as this there were others marching through restaurants and conter service areas. The parks as we know open at 10am but on Tues none of the rides opened until about 12 only things like Tea cups and the carosell we did not see a parade but we did not intend watching one anyway so that was not a problem for us. we found the train closed every time we wanted to go on it because protesters were on the track. having said this though we did every ride at least 4 timesif not more.my tip is to get a fantasyland breakfast and get a load of rides done before any disruption starts. watch the kids the marches are very loud and in your face i did question a bunch of protesters and said you are spoiling my holiday they did stop and lissten to me( the whole shop went deadly silent) there reply was "in France we have the right to freedom of speech"

karen
we still had a good time though i think my friends were put off and wont return but we will.

Good on you for questioning them! I really don't see why they can't take their protest outside the gates - I suppose they feel that along with their freedom of speech they also think they have the right to frighten young children! I'll be giving them a piece of my mind if I come across them! :furious:

On a slightly more positive note I've just phoned Disney Reservations as theirs was the only number I could find. They said that they were offering to change people's packages if they were arriving today or tomorrow but the memo that had been sent to them stated that they thought it would all be resolved by Monday. Here's hoping! :sad2:

I hope so. Not only for me (I will stay at the park in 8 days), but for all the people spending their vacations right now at Disneyland.

Cross your fingers

Hi milliekitten and welcome to the DIS. :welcome:

So sorry you experienced this at what should be purely a magical place :sad2:
:grouphug: for you too Karen, what a shame on your friend's first visit.

Pixiedust for Sarah, Antonio and everyone else going soon, let's hope this is all sorted out and your holidays don't get disrupted. :wizard: :wizard:

Just read that Monday will be a hutch strike day. The Union workers are back on Monday and there are more strikers.
They threat also to cut of the power and disturb the reservations office.
All this is of course of “heard saying” maybe its blown up.

This can not be doing their reputation any good, :sad2: Hope it gets sorted soon.

I read in an other forum of people who just did not book. They planned to go on short notice next week
They saved for years and just are afraid that they throw there savings away.
Ofcourse this is just one familie but I think there will be more without a doubt.

How very very sad.

Maby the are just hired strikers bij the Union.
Is a well known fact that if you like a stike to look big you just hire some students in.

It would definitely stop me from going, It is not a cheap holiday and who would want to pay that amount of money and not have the magic.

My friend, who's coming with us with her family, has just spoken to someone in the park and has been told that there will be official strike action tomorrow. However, it will only be a few people and the park will be unaffected. They also expect it to be resolved completely within the next couple of days.
She may have just been giving us the official line but I do think that Disney cannot afford for this to continue much longer - they just can't afford the bad press. :sad2:

DH and I just got back from five days at Disney. Went in the parks Tues, Wed and Thurs and did see the strike 'parading' around the grounds but aside from the parade being cancelled Tues and Thurs (possibly Wed but we didn't notice that day) it didn't affect our visit at all! I'm wondering if we just got lucky but it seemed every time we saw the queue of people with their picket signs passing by we were going the other way so maybe just lucky? I can say every time we saw them there were more than a few park security people around them probably trying to prevent trouble?

We stayed off site at the Dream Castle so no interruption for breakfast, etc. in our stay (although the brekkie service there was atrocious anyway but that's another story!) If the situation escalates perhaps have a think about your visit but if you have kids not so tiny or are going as a pair of 'overgrown kids' like DH and me, I wouldn't cancel if you're staying off site. We still had a fantastic time. (POTC over and over again as suspected pirate: , and queues...WHAT queues? We didn't wait more than 15 minutes for anything and even that was unusual)

x PJ

sounds like you had a great time i was wondering apart from the breakfeast how was the dream castle as from the outside it looked great I was thinking of staying there next visit ,you must do a trip report and tell us all about it .(and great name by the way "puddlejumper "is it the atlantis kind ?)

I promise to do that trip report next weekend! BTW puddlejumper is coz I moved from the US to the UK, hence 'jumped the big puddle' :goodvibes
