For those of you who buy Stride Rite shoes for your children-- do you think they run true to size?

I am thinking of buying Stride Rites online and am wondering if I need to order big as that is some of the feedback I've heard; that I would need to order at least 1.5 sizes larger than what she's currently wearing.

My daughter is wearing a size 6-7 in Crocs and they are pretty big on her, her Timberlands are a 7 (she still has a lot of room in those). I was thinking of ordering a size 8 in some of the shoes but was told by someone else that I should get her a 9 or a 9.5 as Stride Rites run small.

Is this true in your experience?

I'm sorry I can't give a better answer because my DS has only had Stride Rite shows since he started wearing shoes. Well I lied. I bought shoes for 1st communion from Kohls and they were the same size as his sneakers from stride rite. And things like winter boots or water shoes have also been the same sizes. We tried on Nike's once, but they were WAY TO SMALL. so that is all I have to compare it to.

Did you see the great sale on Stride Rite shoes on amazon? I believe they are good about returns if they don't fit correctly too!

When my DS (now 4) was first walking (at 9 months! groan!) I bought him a few pairs of shoes (not junky Target ones--I went to a fairly nice local department store and bought him early walker shoes there)...went to a stride rite store less than a month later, and expressed some concern that I had to go up A WHOLE SIZE (and he had--and still has to this day--tiny feet) and was informed rather rudely, "Stride Rite runs true to size. All the other shoes are wrong." And then got a lecture about how he needed to wear Stride Rites or he wouldn't learn to walk right and would have deformed feet....(LOL) Nice shoes though--I still buy stride rite for dress shoes--I just go to a different store!

I've heard that too. I buy Stride Rite because I like them, not because my child will have deformed feet if I don't. What is up with that :confused3

My DD wears a size 8-9 Crocs, which are pretty small on her. (She complains about them, but she doesn't prefer them, so I haven't gotten another pair.) I just had her feet measured at the local shoe store - she went in wearing size 7.5 Stride Rite sneakers, and came out with size 9 Keds. Her size 8.5 Stride Rite sandals still fit (she measures an 8.5), and she's willing to squeeze into some different size 8 Stride Rite sandals, but they're really too small. IMHO, size 9 Stride Rites on a kid who wears 6-7 Crocs would be way too big.

(I personally am not a good judge of shoe fit, and I find the local kid's shoe store to be worth every penny. The Stride Rite store in the mall, not so much.)

Hopefully this is a pretty good comparison. My daughter wears 6-7 crocs but they are starting to get snug. Last week, she measured a 9 in Stride Rite shoes with plenty of room to grow. They do run small but I would say the size 9 would swallow if the 6-7 crocs are big.

When my daughter wore 6/7 Crocs, she had a pair of size 8 and a pair of size 8.5 Stride Rite shoes. When we were in Orlando we went to Stride Rite and bought her a pair of boots and they sized her in a 9. We did buy the 9's but they were big on her. She is now almost out of her 8/9 Crocs and the boots still fit her, although barely. So I would say an 8, no bigger than an 8.5 if your daughter's 6/7 Crocs are big on her now.

My kids have worn mostly Stride Rite since birth. They seem to run true to size but are a little larger than some brands of shoes -- my son went down a size when he went from Nike to Stride Rite. I buy them because they last my kids longer than some of the other styles of shoes and my son is in love with the Super Ball shoes (this is his 2nd pair). I got an entire school year and summer out of his last pair (dd's got chewed up by the dog 2 weeks after we bought them).

As far as needing them while learning to walk - I did notice a difference when I gave in and bought them for ds when he was a baby. I had an aunt that insisted that I buy him a pair when he started walking at 9 months old. After a few weeks (and a black eye from a fall), I bought them and he just seemed to get around better.

Thanks for all the info everyone.

This is a good comparison, I did take advantage of the Amazon sale and ordered 2 pair of the ball sneakers in a size 8; about an hour later I thought I might as well get her some dress shoes for fall and winter and went back; I was just getting ready to order more size 8's when I read some reviews warning about the size difference, however, ShoeBuy reviews are the opposite.

The new shoes will be delivered tomorrow, so will try them on, if they fit big I'll order 8.5's from Amazon if they fit almost perfect then I'll get the 9's.

stride rite can vary in size from one style to the next. Some run narrow, some run wide. I have bought many many pairs of Stride Rite shoes over the years, and I won't buy them online because of this.

Hi there, have you tried the Stride Rite e-fit Sizing Calculator on striderite.com? There's a sizing chart you can print out and measure your child's foot against. I haven't tried it, but maybe it will be some help?

Also, from my experience, my son wears a Stride Rite Stage 2 size 3.5 extra, extra wide (yup, I know, chubba little feet). I measured his shoe (Scooter - a lace-up white sneaker) against a size 4/5 crocling this weekend and they were the EXACT same length. Now, I didn't try the crocling on him, but just an outside, cursory glance revealed they were about the same size.

Hope some of that helps!! :goodvibes

Hmm, the stride rites we've gotten for DS have been pretty true to his size.

But we didn't start young...we did the Robeez, almost-barefoot thing when he was littler, and only got him thicker-soled shoes when he was walking perfectly.

I have no comparison for Crocs b/c neither 6/7 (small) nor 8/9 (BIG) fit. :confused3

I really wish Crocs would have straight sizes for infants like they do for kids. We are in the same boat right now, 8/9's are too small and 10/11's are too big. When we were in between 6/7's and 8/9's I shrunk a pair of 8/9's in the dryer but what a pain.

I bought a pair of Stride Rites for our last Disney trip. When he was 1-2 years old that's all I'd let him wear. I started to ease up on that a bit and get him some nice Nike's and K-Swiss. He was in a size 7 in those, and when I bought the Stride Rite tennis shoes for our trip we had to get him an 8.

What prices were you seeing for the sale? Everything looked like around 45.00 which is the normal price for the shoes at Stride Rite stores. Did I miss something?

I got 2 of the Stride Rite Toddlers' Super Ball Lace Up Sneaker for $16.89 each pair. The other shoes I have in my cart right now are around the same price if not cheaper. I am still waiting for the shoes to arrive tomorrow to decide whether or not to get those.

I think stride runs a little small but they are worth it. I use to buy Nikes and DMIL gave us such a hard time that we gave in and bought a pair.Wow, what a difference. Now, if I just didn't have to buy them so often.:scared:

I find these and New Balance to run small. She does have wide feet, though. With the Amazon sale, I made sure I bought at least a size and a half bigger than what she's wearing now, so even if they're too big, she can wear them later. I got her white and bone dress shoes (thinking Easter, etc), black dress shoes (Xmas), black shoes for school, sneakers, and two pairs of Little Laundry boots for the fall/winter. At 16.50 for the most expensive pair, I'm glad I stocked up. DD4 has flat feet and we just ordered orthotics for her. I'm thinking her current New Balance will be too tight once we put the orthotics in.

I know this might sound stupid but have you tried getting her wide or extra wide shoes from SR? Not everyone realizes they come in wide sizes. HTH.

Well, the sneaker arrived today and I tried them on her; they are too big.

I ordered an 8M; she probably has about an inch before her toes hit the tip-- they are also a bit too wide, but she can wear them now with thick socks.

I am deleting the shoes I have in my cart at Amazon; I'll have to take her to get measured. While the sale is great; I hate buying shoes that will not fit within the next 6 -9 months at the earliest.

I measured her foot from the thing I downloaded from the web; I think she's a 6.5 but wouldn't bet money on it.
