Hi!
My family is headed down to the World for the Cheer competition the weekend after next. Because of time contraints, we have only made ressies at Ohana's and CRT. My Mother is very limited on what she can eat, and was very concerned about our ressies. (Ex: She can eat the potatoes at Ohanas, they will just need to be served plain w/ no cheese, while the rest of us will have the cheese version, and she can eat the salad..but her's will need to be served with no dressing.) I hope that the restaurants will be able to work with us, as we are not asking for an entirely different menu for her, just for a few modifications. And, the rest of our party will be able to eat the regular food. Has anyone had to do this before? I am planning on calling the restaurants tomorrow, is this the best way to go?
:)

You'll be surprised at how easily they can accomodate with advance notice. They will make her something special that will fall within her needs, even if it's not on the regular menu. :)

Disney is known for being very accomodating with special diets. If its not already listed on your ADRs, I'd call Disney Dining back and have it noted. I'd again call the restaurant 48 hours before you dine to remind them that you are dining with someone who has a specific diet, and again remind them when you check in for your ADR. They should have no problem whipping something up for your mom that works with her dietary needs.

If it's a matter of leaving dressing off of the salad and things like that, youre probably ok just letting your server know when you order. For example - I'm vegetarian and at some restaurants I have to ask for things like "The pasta dish, but please leave the chicken off." and have always been accommodated without any issue at all. If her issue requires more complicated instructions, then calling ahead can't hurt. Depending on needs, you can have it noted on your reservation or even ask to speak to the chef to arrange something she can eat.

Disney is good about working with you and I really think a couple of chefs I've spoken to enjoyed doing something different. :)

I would definitely try to give advance notice, just in case. Since you know where you will be eating already, this shouldn't be too hard.

WDW is wonderful about accomodating "special diets" no matter how complicated. All you have to do is call to make ADR's and give them the type of diet and maybe a list of the type foods she can't have. Two years when we went with another couple, one was on Atkins and another was on a vegetarian plan. I called the dining reservations number and let them know and we did get a couple of calls from chefs about likes and dislikes and the other couple was served wonderful foods within their plans. Last year, we brought my daughter and grandson who are both allergic to peanuts and we let them know. We never called them to remind them but it was noted and at each meal, the waitstaff came to the table and suggested we not go up for food until the chef came to the table. The chef would go over the selections that were a "problem" and if it was a buffet, would walk my daughter through each food item on the buffet table to tell her if each food item had peanut or peanut oils in them. We've never had a problem in the past with any allergies or special diets and I hope you all experience the same wonderful service we've had.

Thank you everyone! I am calling them tomorrow! I know I can always count on DISers to help me out when I have a question!
