Strict Age Limit at Disney Dream Oceaneer Club?

For the 3 year olds still in pull ups, they will NOT be allowed in the club/lab. It is a United States public health rule. All children must be in underwear. Also, counsellors in the club/lab are unable to help the children in the restroom with pants, getting into the toilet and so on.

When did you experience this? Very recently? It changed this past winter, and DCL has been allowing any child age 3+ to use the Oceaneer Club/Lab -- with or without a pull-up. If the child is wearing a pull-up, you are correct that staff will not assist; the parents are required to return periodically (I've read varying reports of every 30 minutes or every 60 minutes) to check.

I think you are confusing the kids' club with the pools with regards to the U.S. public health rules. Swim diapers are not allowed in any cruise ship pools; children must be potty-trained to use the pools. Swim diapers are fine in the splash areas.

Enjoy your cruise!

If the child is over 4, and has a medical reason for the pull up it is allowed. If they are still 3 and not toilet trained, they will not be allowed in. This is because the nursery will accept 3 year olds. It is a health and safety hazard, to have diapers in space and it is one of our USPH rules. I am a nursery counselor for DCL. At least on my ship, we are very strict with the no pull up rule.

This has NOT been the experience of many, many people for several months now.

If it is a hazard, they wouldn't allow the 4+ in.

Ah, interesting. So 3-yr-olds must be potty-trained? But a 4-yr-old can wear a pull-up? I think we've had many reports this past winter and spring about 3-yr-olds going to the Club in a pull-up with parents checking-in. I'll have to go back and find those to be sure... thanks for clarification.

I am unsure of the other ships but I do know we have made exceptions in the past. But as far back as November, 3 year olds in diapers had to come to the nursery. And any child with special needs in diapers that were older had to be checked on every hour.

Hum in 2013 my diapered 3 year old at the time went to the kids club. I can't tell you about my most recent trip since my kids are now 4 and 5 and use the potty.

Because of how the old age cut-offs for Kindergarten is here (when she started in 2010 it was 5 before October 15, her birthday is 9/13/05), she's been the youngest in her class by nearly a full year so she's used to being around kids slightly older than her.

But like you suggested, we have told her that we won't know for sure until we're there. There's enough in the Oceaneer's Lab that she'll enjoy as well, and may only wind up being there when mommy and daddy want some adult time. The rest of the time I imagine she'll be in the pool or riding the AquaDuck.

My DD is also the youngest in her class because of this. However, when she was 10 1/2 they would not let her into the Edge with her 12 yo brother. They ended up hanging out on their own when we went to Palo instead since she was tired of the club.

Correct, CMs onboard can decide whether to allow a child to "age-up" to the next club. Generally it is based on how many kids of each age group are booked on the cruise to begin with -- if the Edge is "full" with those already 11-14, they will not allow younger to move up; if there is space, they typically allow it for all 10 yr olds. However, I will say, I don't think I've heard of a 9-yr-old moving up to Edge no matter how close to her 10th birthday. I would prepare her for the Club/Lab, and plan to go to Edge during Open House times. That way she isn't disappointed if an exception isn't made. It may be possible, but I wouldn't count on it.

Enjoy your cruise!
My son was allowed on to the edge when he was 9 1/2. BD in nov sailed in april. He was allowed into both the oceanears club and edge...actually they have always allowed my boys to stay together that I can recall.

I have no doubt that happened. But, it's up to the CMs in Edge whether it will be allowed on a cruise by cruise basis. It's not a given.

Honestly I can't imagine leaving a 2 yo in the club/lab it's pretty lord of the flies in there. Big kids running around like crazy lots of noise and minimal counselor interaction.

No problem. 2 year olds go to the nursery, not Oceaneer's Club/Lab.

Disney is now very strict. Your child must be 3 years old to go to the kids club.
