DD is 5'6",120# and she has a lot of stretch marks. They are mainly on her thighs and rear. Has anyone successfully used any over the counter creams to help diminish the appearance of them and prevent future ones?

Oh she wants help with these so badly that she told me to ask on here.

Take her to a dermatologist and get some Retin-A. It's the only thing proven to help fade them.

It works best if you get them while they are still pink/red. If you wait until they are faded and "silvery" it doesn't work quite as well. She may have to apply it for up to a year.

DD19 got hers on her hips when she had DGS. She went to a dermatologist and they told her they could do the laser treatments on her. She tried the Celtrixa (I'm sure that's not spelled right!) and it didn't work. Her next product to try is Mederma for stretch marks.

I spoke to my dermatologist on Friday about it and she suggested an OTC Retin-a cream too. She said that there is no cure, and no way to ever get rid of them completely but to give that a try. I was hoping some DISer had some miracle cream to suggest. lol

Thankfully they are still in the redish/brown stage. I'm crossing my fingers that something help her.

Does she wear low rise jeans alot? I've heard alot of speculation that they cause stretch marks in that area. I've heard other moms mention this. Their teens (who are all thin like your daughter) were getting stretch marks in the same location and they thought it was the snug fitting low rise jeans causing it. Hope this helps.

Okay...this might sound a little funny since the product is for your teen girl...but here is goes...

I used to be a Pure Romance Consultant. (If you don't know the company PM me :lmao:) They sell a stretch mark oil that I feel works. I don't know if it is really helping...or if the skin is just HEALTHIER now, but it definately looks better. (And you would never know where it came from as far as packaging goes;))

I have tried EVERYTHING as a mom of twins and I have also found that the Avon Stretch Mark cream makes a difference.

Like I said though, I don't know if the STRETCH MARKS are improving...or it's in my head :confused3

My 15yo son has them too. He has them on his hips and his bi-ceps. It's weird and I've been thinking of taking him to the doctor about it. He's an athlete and in great shape. I'm kind of freaked out about it. His are worse than mine and I'm 57.

My son got them last year at 15 too. They looked bad (he was doing a lot of running) but they have greatly improved in the last few months.

Stretch marks, especially in the hips, are very common in teens.

I'm glad it is more common than I thought. I feel badly for her.

indimom, YES! Tight low rise jeans are the staple of her wardrobe followed closely by oversized sweatpants. Go figure! lol

SS, we will try Retin-a first then maybe move on to the adult products. ;):lmao: But PM me that website anyway. :rotfl::rotfl2:

My 15 yr old dd has LARGE dark red ones on both her knees!! I noticed them last summer, she must have sprouted up and stretched the skin out or something. They are not pretty, and poor thing, I pretty much fear they will not ever go away.

The good thing is that young, teen skin turns over collagen much better than adults do and, unless the stretch marks are very deep, thye will look much better soon.

Also, stretch marks come from growth spurts and are way under the superficial layer of skin. Pants aren't going to cause it.

My 15 year old son has horrible stretch marks on his BACK!

He looks like he has scarring from being whipped! It's really bad, right in the middle of his back.

I took him to the doctor and they said it was from growing the number of inches he grew in such a short time.

When I asked if there were any creams I could try he said there were dozens out there but none of them worked. He said there was nothing to do about them and they'd fade over time.

I gained 10 lbs in three months working at a camp when I was 16. I lost that weight quickly when back on my mom's cooking. I also gained stretch marks on my thighs. They do fade if you don't yo-yo wieght. Didn't get noticable again until I was pregnant in my early 30s.

I hope you find a solution for your children. Fingers crossed.
