Okay not really the trip - that should be fun!

Stressing over the fact that for the first time in five years I'll have to board my dog somewhere.:sad1:

My furry girl has had 3 seizures in the past 5 years and I could make a pretty good argument that they could be linked to high stress situations (2 within days of bringing home new babies, and one within a week of moving). She is on phenobarb to prevent seizures, but still I worry. Plus, she's my dog - even when she stays with my mom, who she's really comfortable with, she still looks for me and it takes her a couple of days to relax (we call her "Constant Vigilance" :lmao: ).

My mom is coming on the trip with us and my dad is out of town which means my only option is a kennel. Now my poor girl is going to be stressed because she's away from me and she's at a kennel - even the best one around still isn't home with her "pack".

So I guess that means I am stressing over the trip.

I would be worried too. :(

Poor thing, I hope she is okay while you are away.

Aw. I understand completely. Maybe you can make a friend at the kennel that will allow you to make morning check ins to see how your pooch is doing?

I understand completely, but try to relax and remember that you've got her in good hands.

My girl woke up with a "tumor" (a better description would have been a boil) the morning we were driving to wdw at the end of September... I ended up stressing over the pups the whole trip and not really enjoying myself. Don't do that to yourself! Now we don't even want to go back to wdw anytime soon because we were so stressed the whole time.

acejka, is your Maddie a JRT? That's what my girl is, just with long hair and pricked ears.

I really stressed over this when we were taking a road trip... we were gone for just over 2 weeks and I was so worried about how the dog (puppy really, 8 or so months at the time). But he was fine, he had a great time and I now know that if/when we go again, he'll be fine again!

I think that the kennel is better for them since they have something to do, look and "talk" to the other dogs! He came home knowing how to play by himself!

We had left him for a few days with a friend and he didn't do so well. I would deffently do the kennel again!

I sent in blankets with him that the kids had slept with so he could still smell his kids!

Let us know how you pup does and enjoy your trip!

Our first trip to WDW we had to board our "baby" at a kennel. It was heart breaking for us. It did not help any that when we got to the hotel - Homeward Bound was on televison with the line - "You know they are never coming back," said the golden retriever to the other dog. I sobbed and had to call the kennel immediately. The kennel was fine with me calling and I arranged for different friends to stop by over the course of the week to just check up on him and give them some "extra" attention.

We had to leave him several more times over the course of the years and he actually began to love the kennel. He would run to the door and all the women would fawn over him.

I hope you find a kennel where you are comfortable leaving him and have friends stop by if it will bring you peace of mind.

What about a pet sitter?

I really can understand how you are feeling. Our Siamese was 10 years old and definitely a cat who grieved for her "people" when left behind. I was so worried about how stressed she would become at a kennel when we started making yearly trips to WDW that we bought a travel trailer just so she could come with us each trip and stay in Fort Wilderness with us. My nickname is Camping Cat because of that. We had many, many wonderful trips with her. She was a great little traveler. Unfortunately, we lost her just last week at the age of 18 years. We do worry so over our little fur babies, don't we?
