Stressed to the max

I think I just need to vent. Thanks in advance for listening.

Last July I started working for a rental company as the office manager. Little did I know, that not only would I handle things like payroll, accounts payable and accounts receivable; but I was also going to get thrown into accounting. Now. I'm not an accountant. I was a banker. Banking and accounting are polar opposites.

Anyway. We have a CPA firm that handles our taxes. January, February, march, all ended, and I hadn't heard anything from the firm. Tax deadline was quickly approaching. Finally, on April 1st, the rep from their emailed me with a looooong list of stuff she needed for our taxes. Seriously? Two weeks from the deadline?

I got everything to her and didn't here anything from her until 3 days before tax deadline. She began emailing asking all kinds of info, because she didn't understand some of it. She decided to ask for an extension on our taxes so she could have more time to figure it out. Because we are an LLC, this meant that our owner also had to file for an extension. Evidently he wasn't happy. They have now hired a CPA to do my job, and my. Role is going to completely change.

Now I know that probably doesn't sound so bad, but here's the thing. I was able to do my job for about three months after I was hired. Then, our service manager quit, and his responsibilities got dumped on me because no one else wanted to do them. No matter what I said, or how much I asked for help, that responsibility still laid on me because we were short handed. They finally hired another service manager in November, but lo and behold, I'm still doing most of his job. Not to mention, all the paperwork for sales for every salesman as well. My responsibilities kept getting put off, because the other things wee so important.

To make a long story short, I messed up and didn't post some stuff correctly when it comes to the accounting. That's totally my fault. I guess I'm just upset because I feel like I wasn't given a fair chance to actually do my job, and now I'm being replaced. They aren't letting me go, just moving me around a bit. My boss assures me that this didn't happen because I did anything wrong. The owner just felt like we needed a CPA. We already had one though. Just not on our payroll.

I'm so upset. I found out that they hired her an hour before she was going to be there. I've done nothing but cry for two days. This has me so depressed.

Thanks for letting me vent...

Oh, I am sorry..

Hoping that time will heal this, and maybe your job will be an easier one.

I think I understand how you feel, being replaced when you did the job.

Hugs to you

Thank you. I just don't know what to do. And I'm having a really hard time handling it.

I am so sorry you are having a rough time.

HOWEVER, don't take it so personally. (I know it is hard to do). Your skill set is not with accounting. You were forced into doing that type of work, a mistake was made, and now they hired a "professional".

SO WHAT!?!?

You now can concentrate on what you are good at. See it as a blessing that you don't have to deal with accounting anymore.

I used to work for an accountant who filed taxes for people. And if just one little number was off for a company it was a HUGE difference. The company could either be in trouble or have to have an audit. What your boss did was to make sure that the accounting was done correctly so the company wouldn't lose any money, which could have meant a job for someone. Of course a mistake was made; that wasn't your skill or your profession.

You were made to do a job that wasn't even your job. You did the best you could.

Perhaps this is a good thing. It made your boss understand that they should have hired an accountant from the beginning and let you do the job you were hire for.

Thanks for all the kind words guys....unfortunately, this thing has gotten worse. There were a bunch if files and things in my office that the CPA needed. She came into my office yesterday morning needing them, but every one of them were gone. I tried explaining to her that I hadn't done anything with ANYTHiNG that was in my office. I had literally been sitting in my office with nothing to do. Nothing at all.

Evidently she didn't believe me, shut my door, and said, "I need for you to produce this things right now. Now is them time for you to be honest with me."

I told her again that I had no idea where this stuff had gone and that I hadn't touched anything.

She walked out if my office, and five minutes later, she and the operations manager came in and shut my door. He let me go. All he said to me was that after talking about everything and after speaking with the owner, that they had made the decision to let me go.

I am devastated. What am I supposed to do? I tried calling my boss several times yesterday afternoon, sent text messages and even an email. I wanted to talk to him because he wasn't even there yesterday. He wouldn't take my calls, won't respond to my texts and never answered my email.

I am at a loss for words right now. I just don't know what's going on. Just a week ago, he was reassuring me that everything was fine and that u was his "number one" employee. Now I don't even have a job.

Here comes the depression again....

OH my you poor girl..

I would call first thing Monday and find out your labor laws.. It sounds like an ugly set up to me...
