Strep Throat and hives/rash?

Anyone's child ever presented a rash/hives before coming down with Strep? My oldest DD (7) came down with a case of hives Saturday night. She's been on Benadryl ever since then. Took her to the doc on Monday, and they determined it's an allergic reaction to SOMETHING, though we can't figure out what. Anyway, today, the rash seems to be gone, but now her throat hurts. Hmmmm? I found a reference online that sometimes children may present a symptom of a red rash when they have Strep. Looking for any experience with this?

Yes, a rash is common with strep.

Do you know what kind of rash and to what extent? Her rash was on her arm, hands, legs, feet and cheeks... it stayed away from her back and torso.

Also a sign of Scarlet Fever.

My girls have usually had a rash on their torsos only when they have gotten strep. I think it may be a form of scarlet fever??

I would think the Dr. would recognize this though. My kids usually get the strep rash/scarlet fever with strep right after their throats start hurting.

She hasn't run a fever at all.. nor has she felt nauseous or had tummy trouble. The doc did check her ears and throat on Monday, and they were fine.. however, I know things can change! I'm not thinking it's Scarlet Fever though.

Another name for a strep rash is petechiae. Tiny red bumps commonly on the chest, but can be other places.

My DS was diagnosed with strep on Monday and I don't recall any kind of rash on him prior to being diagnosed. He did have very red cheeks, but I attributed that to the fever he had. He did have neck pain and visually swollen glands on his neck, but other than that nothing.

Tes, a rash is very common with strep. It is usually a fine lacey rash....not hives which are more like tiny flea bites.
