My DD will be starting her second round of Anti-biotics for Strep throat. She finished round 1 of Anti-biotics on Thursday and Saturday she tells me that her throat started hurting again on Friday. So she hadn't even been off the anti-biotics for more then 24 hours before it flared up again. UGH!!

Disneychrista, what kind of antibiotics have they been using for the strep?

Jason, :teeth::p

Hoping she starts to respond, Christa. Tough being sick for so long. My best.

I had strep many times when I was going up. Thankfully I seem to have outgrown it or just don't get it as often. It was not unusual at all for me to relapse, we finally started asking for something other than penicillian since I'd had it so often it just didn't work anymore.

Hopefully the new antibotic will do the trick and she'll be better in no time :)

I am allergic to penecillin and have been keflex numerous times. I ssure hope this knocks it out soon and she never has to have strap again.

DS got strep a lot for a couple years. He finally got to the point where he had one case after the other. I think he had 4 back to back. He had HUGE tonsils and the strep was surviving in the folds of them(yuck). He had to have his tonsils/adnoids removed. It was the end of lots of his sicknesses!:D I hope the meds work on your DD. Did you change her toothbrush after 2 days of antibiotics? That is important. It could be that one of you are carriers(and not symptomatic) or that it is thriving on something she puts in her mouth. Good luck!

Aww, poor thing. :(
Hope this knocks it right out of her and she is feeling much better soon!

Toothbrush--change it!! (after 48 hours on the new meds). This is something our PNP reminds us of every time DS gets strep. And, if all the toothbrushes are in the same holder, toss em all.

I feel your pain, Strep has run through DS's school 3x now.

Hope the new meds knock it right out.

I hope these new meds help. Having strep isn't fun. :(

I just stumbled on this and my DS has had three rounds of strep in a row! For the first two he was on amoxicillian, responded fine and the day after he stopped the meds his glands swelled up again and his throat hurt. This time they put him on ceftin or someting like that and it is doing much better, doctor thinks it is a resistant strain which is going around, needs stronger antibiotics., we are going to get tested at a later date to make sure we are not carriers but the resistant strain is her best guess.

Is she feeling better today? Both of my kids had strep in November. I opted for them to have the pencillian shot (it gets in their system faster). My kids were mad at me (I've had the shot, I know it's painful, but I think it works better than oral antibiotics), but within a few hours, they were feeling soooo much better and the strep didn't come back. My ds had strep so bad one time they had to give him a shot AND a round of antibiotics.:(

As I've said, I've only had a strep throat twice in my life -- in 1983 and 3 weeks ago. This outbreak of strep is weird.

My doctor put me on Zithromax for 5 days. I haven't had a reoccurence (knock wood), but I still have a cough. Not enough for drugs, but just enough to be annoying.

this is very timely, I just came back from the doctor's office, I have strep, my husband was diagnosed with it on Friday, and both of my kids last week.
I am also on penicilin. I should add that I have never had strep in my life...

Toothbrush will be changed (forgot last time), actually I bought her two new ones, one for after she beigns the meds and a second after she is cleared from the Doc. She is going for a recheck on April 1st to make sure all the strep is gone. I am concerned that she may have to have her tonsils removed, since everytime gets sick it her throat/tonsils.

You can still get strep after a tonsillectomy. My ds had his tonsils removed January 2002 (he kept getting strep and tonsillitis, the surgery has helped him a lot:) ). November 2002 he had strep throat again.

You might want to have your doctor check you for strep, too. My dd was sick and I took her to the dr, they decided to go ahead and test my ds since he was there because they said since she's got it, he might too. He didn't have any signs of strep (no headache, no sore throat, no fever), but he tested positive.

Throw out ANYTHING the toothbrush can come in contact with like the holder. My daughter had this EVERYTIME we went camping - I started believing something in our camper must have caused it - but then it hit me that I would replace the toothbrush - but then dummy me would pack it in the same holder. Since this was a moist source it just held the germ! Good luck!
